Jimmy Howard to start VS San Jose; Brad May replaces Ville Leino

interesting on howard starting again, but ill go with it. i also think miller is the easy promotion to the 2nd line, him and clear both drive the net hard, the whole line plays great defense, and (hopefully) filpulla can put some hard shots or good passes on net to the junkyard dogs waiting in front of it. -
*waiting for fedors next fight*

helm continues to come up big in tight situations, while clearys last second goal was a testament to his hard working, clutch abilities that we have dearly missed. i think zetterberg had a good game, especially for being his first back. im excited to see if him, dats, and bert will develop chemistry, they could be lethal especially with bert becoming more and more willing to post up in front of the net. while we did get outshot, you have to consider the fact that the kings are a very strong shot blocking team. you can attribute some of those to the wings just picking wrong shots, but the kings definitely stopped alot of them from getting to the net. also, the multiple power plays we gave the kings didnt help towards the total either. but alas, we've had many games over the years where we outshoot the opponents by a rediculous amount and still came up with a loss, its nice to be on the other side of that for once. this game was a tribute to us having to switch to more defensive minded hockey, not run and gun offense, and finally a game stolen by our goalie.

miller and eaves have to stay, itd be a kick in the balls for them to go after all their hard work. they bring an element to this team, along with helm and abs, that we havent seen in a while.

im with you mindfly, f*** canada!! i do agree though, that had that been as short as an nhl transition into overtime, theyd have probably won it. go USA
-
always wanted to see him get better and get a season under his belt
-
i give him props for sticking up for himself, we all knew how that would turn out
-
god i love our lower lines work ethic, the wings havent seen such heart in so long. eaves, miller, helm, abs better be here to stay. PP time, nice try meech
-
yeah mule, USA WON

I suspect he'll need twice the fluffing he normally gets from you with his likely increased ice time.

while i agree with you GMR, it was hilarious to see toews get his ass whupped.

at the game last night was the first sellout since opening night

so glad i got to go to this game. since ive gone to both wings games every year since 03 i got front row glass tickets right next to the net the wings attacked twice for 30$, i got to hear and see bert talk s*** to jovonoski on the faceoff every chance he got, got to see helm elbow doan in the face when doan had him pinned against the boards with a stick in his back, got to see ritola slam every chance he got. this was a great win, from my perspective we controlled this game from start to finish. our pk has really gotten very solid, sans the 5 on 3 goal. how weird must it be for the wings to travel across the country and receive a standing ovation after the win in a sea of red and white. and holy s***, what a save that was by jimmy. he was savage last night. glad to see helm get another, he worked to get that EN. did holmstrom leave the game with an injury? miller and malts were with the 1st line the whole period lets go red wings !!

what a game by helm, it was only time until one of his breakaways produced something this year
-
wow miller just got rocked with a headshot, heres hoping hes recruiting the mercenary skills of brad may. at least ritola hit him back.
-
he's definitely overrated as a hitter. i hate phaneuf, and while he definitely deserves to be punished, sadly i think nothing will happen. does ivanans still play for L.A.? why did he use his latvian taste for destruction on phaneuf?

IMO, of all the new guys helm has earned his spot the most. he plays HARD every shift, you always know when he is on the ice hitting left and right, chasing down pucks he shouldnt have to chase down, winning battles along the boards getting the puck to the middle or the net. he is very good at protecting the puck along the boards, i think he just needs to put on a little weight to win battles in open ice, and work on his shot.

? nash would not have fought our guys, although i do agree he deserved some punishment. where was the frustration? it was a 0-0 goal tending battle on both ends of the ice, boll deserved what he got, and yes there might have a been a little frustration on janiks part because he got clocked and didnt like it. i would have never agreed with posters like uk_wing and GMR last year, but the days of the powerplay enforcer are over, for now at the very least. we need guys to know that just taking a penalty isnt enough anymore, they need to pay for their disrespect and intentions of hurting/running our best guys on the ice, whether it be a monster hit or hammers to the face.
