No. I think they belong on the list based on this season. They are very complete players and complement each other greatly. However, split them up and they both miss the Top 10 IMO. I have Lidstrom at #1 and AO #2, with the rest pretty even. I would also put Phaneuf on the list and would rank Malkin higher than Sid if you take away the last few games. He was easily the most dominant player in the league when Sid went out.

While there are many puck bunnies with that mentality, I'd like to think most knowledgable Pens fans don't feel this way. Before the Philly series, we were already making fun of the "Cryers" for articles complaining about the Pens getting favorable calls before the first puck dropped. They're pretty predictible that way and we like to think we're above that for the most part. The fans I respect most on our boards do not think the officiating has made a difference in the outcome of this series so far. The officiating is bad, but it's poor both ways and not as bad as the coaching from our bench. I saw Therrien's whining as gamesmanship more than anything else, and most of the whining on our message board was just plain venting from the casual fan. You've been the better team in this series and there's no disputing 2-1 is where we are and should be right now.

I think we're entitled to a level playing ice. What's wrong with that? Having said that, I didn't have much of a problem with the borderline clutching/grabbing because it wasn't like the Pens couldn't have played the same way without penalty. But I also didn't have a problem with the gamesmanship of calling the Wings out for it to get that edge back as an alternative to playing the same style. The way I saw it last night, it's possible the Wings players were more careful because they thought the refs might have listened to Therrien. You can call it whining (I would if I were a Wings fan), but it may have worked by getting in their heads a little. We need every edge we can get at this point. I won't deny that. I appreciate the political reference though. I got a good chuckle there.

I'll try to organize this as best I can, because my thoughts are wide and varied: 1) I guess it should be said that I'm not a Therrien fan. He's made a lot of progress this year as a coach, and played a huge role in getting a young team this far, but I don't think he'll ever "bring it home." We'll be losing Orpik next year and, no doubt others, if he stays past next season. Babcock makes him look like a pee wee coach. 2) That said, I don't have a problem with the whining. If it can get Holmstom's ass a penalty (literally), then I'm all for any edge we can get right now. There's enough leadership among the players to take it for what it is and not use it as an excuse for losing. 3) I also don't have a problem with not getting the calls, although he has a point. The Wings have been experts at taking it just far enough not to get a whistle. It's no worse than Kronwall's borderline charging (which I also am OK with). It's just a vet team executing the perfect plan to win and forcing the younger team into frustration and mistakes. It's technically illegal and certainly a boring style of hockey, but I would make no apologies if my team were doing it. 4) I'm not real thrilled with the Pens' weak attempts to goon it up late in Game 2; I thought they could have actually been better at sending the message they were trying to send. However, if anyone has a moral issue with Robert's hit on Franzen, I've got no sympathy. If he's at risk of worsening his condition as a result of weak s*** like that, he shouldn't be on the ice.

It sucks because someone stole it from him late in the year and things were clicking, but he must have built a faster, stronger model for when Sid came back. Version 2.0 actually includes D pairings.

Starting lines for Game 3: Dupuis-Crosby-Hossa Malone-Malkin-Sykora Rutuu-Staal-Kennedy Hall-Talbot-Roberts However, if the Pens get down by 1 goal, Therrien will immediately revert to full panic mode. That means Crosby+Malkin and whatever the Random Line Generator spits out each shift.

This East v. West thing is tired. The Pens were 8-1-1 against the West, a schedule that included every West playoff team except the Wings and Preds. 3 of the wins came in succession on the road in Western Canada. Drop the freakin' puck! This is hell!

Really? A $7M discount over 5 years isn't enough? You want him to give up $17M and you think the NHLPA would accept that? Really? (is that a better use of the eye roll emoticon superman?)
