The Pens won't increase their offer, but I think there's a good chance that Holland increases his offer. With Bieksa and Pitkanen signed and Erhoff and Wiz looking like they'll sign elsewhere or get drastically overpaid, Holland opt to overpay for Jagr since its just a one year deal. If he's not going to be able to use all his cap space, why not overpay for a player for one year?
-
I do think that Jagr's delay is to drive up his price, but I don't think he'll play for anyone other than Wings, Habs or Pens. If he is looking for more money, Pittsburgh is out. Shero made a "take it or leave it" offer to him a couple days ago.
-
Really like Patrick Eaves, but he could get more money and a bigger role elsewhere.
-
That's Rob Rossi for you. If he wants something to happen, he'll say "sources told me" and then say what he wants to have happen. Its that kind of journalism that is why the Trib Review is a second rate newspaper. You may as well pick up the National Enquirer.
-
There's a local TV station in Pittsburgh waiting at the airport for Jagr's potential arrival.
-
This is starting to get interesting. Shero said he wants an answer today. If he doesn't get one, does that mean Jagr is no longer welcome?

Really hate to see this guy retire without getting his name on the Stanley Cup. He was a great player just had way too many injuries. I always liked him even though I hated all the teams he played for. I kept holding out, hoping he would make a comeback.

I never heard of this clown till now.

All of the credible U.S. media sites are saying that Jagr was offered $2 mil by the Pens. However, they're also saying that the Pens are the only team to make an offer which is not true, since obviously the Wings have made an offer already too.
-
I really hope Helm isn't still on the 4th line in 5 years.

Pens fans on LetGoPens.com are actually tracking the flight Jagr is on to the United States. http://www.letsgopens.com/scripts/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53706&start=3200

Because apparently Tallon is only interested in taking on big contracts that help his old team clear cap space. Huet's next. In a few years, it'll be Hossa.
-
You would think that, but I can understand Yzerman's reluctance to sign any player to a $9-$10 mil per year deal. That's a lot of cap space for just one player and I think he would rather have a more well rounded team than one that's top heavy. Letting Stamkos get signed to an offer sheet is crazy, but its a little less crazy than it was a couple weeks ago. Just as an example, imagine you have $12 mil for two forwards. You can have Steven Stamkos ($10 mil) and Max Talbot ($2 mil) or Brad Richards ($7 mil) and Simon Gagne ($5 mil). As talented as Stamkos is, Richards and Gagne together have more talent and cost the same.
-
I don't know how this deal isn't done yet. Is Stamkos dragging this out till the last minute to try to bleed Tampa as far as they'll go, then sign? You have to figure that if Tampa doesn't sign him before July 1st, he's gone. I say that because someone will throw a HUGE $9 to $10 mil a year deal at him and Tampa shouldn't match it. I'm thinking Stevie's Plan B is replace Stamkos with Brad Richards who expressed a strong desire to return to TB and will take $2-$3 mil less than the offer sheet and get the 4 1st rounders. It sounds crazy, but having too many high priced players on your roster was Tampa's problem 5 years ago.

Just read that Tomas Kopecky signed with Florida for 4 years, $12 mil. I don't have an article right now, just twitter feeds Google twitter feeds -
Penguins offer Jagr one-year contract So the ball is in Jagr's court. Wings, Pens or possibly Habs. Maybe its me, but doesn't that quote from Shero sound like he's deciding when Jagr will decide?

LOL 13 votes and they're all for Eaves

"Must improve his decision-making and defensive-zeon coverage". That scares me off at $3 mil. If he's going to be bought out anyways, just wait. If he does get bought out, he should be really cheap and then it'd be worth it to see if he could fit in our system. Its a good gamble, I would be interested to see how he does, but not at $3 mil.

$4.5 mil for a guy that scored 16 goals last year is overpayment. It doesn't matter that he's the number two available UFA, you don't pay him over $4 mil. He's a good leader, locker room guy, good defensively, but is that worth that much? Just because you have extra money to spend doesn't mean you just burn it the first chance you get. Laich is an important part of their team, but the best part of his game is that he's good defensively and a good defensive forward could be had for cheaper than $4.5 mil. Dupuis has a lot of those qualities and he went for $1.5 mil. If you let the market dictate what you pay for a player, you'll be screwed because then you'll be overpaying for everyone.
-
Pens re-sign Pascal Dupuis Not a bad signing, I don't think.
-
Is Semin struggling because of the team or is the team struggling because Semin's not producing?
-
Exactly. All of our defensemen can't be making $5-$6 mil. If we can get Wiz for under $5 mil, that's perfect, but I have a bad feeling that someone like Toronto or even Florida trying to get the cap floor, will overpay.
-
I'll pass. He's injury prone, vanishes in the playoffs and costs a lot. No thanks.
