I don't like acquiring Cole, unless we're losing Bertuzzi or Holmstrom. I don't really see him as being better than those guys. Cole is a power forward, who's on the wrong side of 30 and he's gotten pretty banged up the last few seasons. Jagr on the other hand is a good puck possession type forward that shoots a lot and I think would be a better fit on the top line with Datsyuk or Zetterberg. I like Gagne too, but unless someone overpays for him (with his injury I doubt that'll happen), I think he'll go back to TB.
-
Jagr will score 20 goals barring any injuries. Carter can only be acquired through a trade and Philly won't give him away. Richards would be a nice sign, but I think with the cap going up his price just went up and probably too high for the Wings especially when they have needs on defense. Jagr at $3 mil for one year is sensible.

Really? Pittsburgh? Shero has said numerous times that he hasn't talked to Jagr or his agent, yet it still keeps getting reported that Pittsburgh is a possible destination. Weird. I'd be surprised if he came back to Pittsburgh though. The fans haven't forgotten the "dying alive" comment and booed him every time he touched the puck. Plus, they're probably still stinging from Alexei Kovalev 2.0

He's the face of the franchise, team captain, will be playing until he's 41, is a finalist for the Norris trophy once again and people want him to take a pay DECREASE? We should be glad he's back for that cheap.

Come on, Wings, let's get 5 for #5!
-
Here, now everyone can feel better Lidstrom to return for 20th season
-
The fact that its Nick AND Ken, leads me to believe he's playing another year and they've come to an agreement on a contract.. If it was a retirement, it would just be Nick.
-
Jagr has been a point per game player in the KHL and apparently had a good showing in the WC, as I've heard. Jagr stats He is older, of course, but I mean, Lidstrom is older too, should we not sign him? Jagr could very well get injured in the first two weeks of the season, but you run that risk every year with everyone. We signed Franzen to a lifetime contract in '09 and at the beginning of the next year he injures his knee and is out for 55 games. Same thing happened with Derian Hatcher. You can't sign or not sign people because you think they might get hurt, else you wouldn't sign anyone. I don't know how Jagr would do with the Wings, but based his last few NHL seasons and what he's done in the KHL, he HAS to be better than Hudler. I think if he comes in, replaces Hudler and puts up 25 goals, 50-60 points, its a successful move.

He'll never take $1 mil. Talking to him is a waste of time if Holland thinks someone like Jagr will take so little. What Jagr would bring to the team is at the very least depth at wing, a position that is weak and is probably why Babcock believes we need a top six forward. My thoughts on this is that they'll sign him for at most $3 mil and trade/waive/buyout Hudler. That way they are essentially replacing Hudler with Jagr. That's a pretty good upgrade.

That a serious injury to a player, one month into the season when he's starting out on a new team, can reduce his effectiveness for the entire season.

I wish I could give this more than a +1

I'm not sure why everyone was just penciling in MacDonald in as the backup. There were several games where he was absolutely awful. The last game he appeared in, for example, the 10-3 loss to the Blues. Granted the backup doesn't have to be the second coming of Patrick Roy, but if Howard gets seriously injured and we're relying on MacDonald for an extended period of time, the season's over. There's plenty of goalies out there that should be able to fill the back up goalie role.
-
You'd rather go with a winger that has potential, but hasn't done anything over a guy that's won Stanley Cups, scoring titles and MVP awards? Not sure about that one. Obviously the Jagr the Wings would sign wouldn't be the one that achieved that greatness, but Jagr's worst year in his mid 30's was better than Zherdev's best ever.

She's probably the owner of that car.

In another Jagr thread I had said that I don't see how he would fit in with the team and he really isn't a Wings type of player. However, after some thought, if he signs for $3 mil and we drop Hudler, we essentially replace Hudler with Jagr, which, in my opinion, would be a very nice upgrade. Yes, he's 39. Yes, he hasn't been in the NHL for a couple years. But we're pretty thin at wing and I don't think its unreasonable to think he could put up 20-25 goals and get 50-60 points. He's been a point per game player in his last few years in the NHL and in the KHL. I know a lot of people are sour on signing old future hall of famers after the Modano experience, but what are the odds that Jagr will have a serious injury and miss 3 months of the season, which I think had a major impact on his effectiveness with our team. We need a top 6 forward, preferably at wing, a guy that shoots more than passes and as a bonus he could come relatively cheap. Definitely deserves some consideration.

Question: Why do Wings fans hate the Canucks?
xtrememachine1 replied to KeslerFan's topic in General
Yep, that's my reason. Well that and the Sedin's are REALLY annoying whether it be diving or guaranteeing victories. -
I really can't see Jagr with Detroit. I have a hard time seeing him back in the NHL again to be honest. Not that I don't think he has the talent to compete, but you're looking at a 20 goal scorer, maybe and he'll be asking for 40-50 goal scorer money. It'll be like another Kovalev.
-
HA!!! No, no, no. The '01 Avs were really good, but you'll never see a team like the '02 Wings... EVER. It was literally an all star team that played as a TEAM. I mean, Pavel Datsyuk was playing on the 4th friggin line. Best team ever, hands down.

SCF: Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks
xtrememachine1 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Good job, Daniel. Pissing off the Bruins has worked real good for you so far. Daniel Sedin: We'll win Game 7 Maybe they cut him off early and he meant to say "We'll win Game 7... in taking punches to the face." -

I'm expecting to see the B's roll over the Nucks tonight. Get this thing to Game 7 and then watch Aaron Rome get the GWG on a shot that deflects off 10 things and trickles into the net. -
Not unexpected. Losing your assistant coaches kind of goes with the territory when you're successful. I'm actually excited to see who they get to replace him and McCrimmon. We still have the coach that matters most with Babcock and maybe these new coaches will add a new dimension to our game.

Why does it say 8 years now? lol 2011-2002 = 9

All of the games we lost to SJ in the playoffs were very close and could have easily gone the other way, not to mention by the end of the series we were the better team. Unfortunately we were also the more injured team too. A healthy Franzen may have made all the difference. I guess it depends on your definition of "big move". Richards, Weber, Doughty, Parise guys like that are big moves IMO. Signing a guy like Laich would be a good move. He would make an impact on the team, but he's not an all star, won't cost a ton of money, he won't put up the big numbers.

LOL thanks, maybe it was Wojtek Wolski himself is on the board reading our comments and he didn't like what I said.

Meh, I never really thought of him as a fast skater. Good shooter, good offensive instincts, but not fast. Defense can be taught, but it doesn't necessarily sink in. See Robert Lang and Jiri Hudler. I'd rather have a player that fits in our system naturally rather than have a project player.
