Bleacher Reports Top 5 Captains of All Time
xtrememachine1 replied to stevieisthebest's topic in General
What? No Dale Hunter, Eric Lindros, Chris Pronger, or Dirk Graham? -
The 2002 team was as close to invincible as their will ever be.
-
Perfect! I was really hoping to see the Red Wings vs Lightning.

I like Mario and I agree with his message, but if he really doesn't like "goon hockey", don't have a goon team. Instead of signing Matt Cooke, hang onto a talented two way forward like Dominic Moore. Instead of Eric Godard, have someone from the WBS Pens. Don't whine about fighting when you're team leads the league in fighting majors and penalty minutes. When you're team is clean, then you can complain about it. That would be like a serial killer complaining about violence in the world. There would be less if you cleaned up your own act. Mario called what happened on Friday a "travesty". No, some piece of garbaging delivering a cheap shot to a skill player and essentially ruining his career and not getting suspended or fined or anything is a "travesty".
-
The NHL is just as responsible for this happening as Cooke. If they suspended his ass, and I'm talking severe suspension not a slap on the wrist, he would quit. The fact that he wasn't suspended for essentially ending Marc Savard's career is why Cooke feels like he can do whatever the hell he wants out there. Its BS. Not suspending him is telling him what he's doing is fine.
-
Cooke won't get anything, he's a Penguin.
-
Half the Pens fan base won't even know he's gone till next week with the Steelers in the Super Bowl.

14 games (out of 38) where Howie gave up 4+ goals. I'm rooting for the guy and want him to be the man, but this is getting really out of hand. His GAA is inching even closer to 3.00 and his save percentage is getting closer to falling below 90%. Its not all his fault, I do believe we need to address some things on defense, but he needs to be MUCH better in the playoffs. It is possible. We've seen Osgood do it.
-
I also like the current jerseys. But at the same time, I like these too. They're like "this is what the Lightning would have looked like if they were around in the 1950's". They look like a blue version of the Red Wings and furthers my bizarro Red Wings impression of them.

OMG, I literally laughed out loud when I read this

Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended
xtrememachine1 replied to Matt's topic in General
At this point, I don't really understand why the Islanders don't put him back on waivers. He doesn't want to play there and if you were in Snow's position would you want a guy that doesn't want to be there in your locker room? There's nothing in it for Nabokov. Playing on the worst team in the league for peanuts is lose-lose. Playing for them won't increase his value, he won't get a chance at a championship and he'll make almost no money in the process. The Isles tolling his contract would be really dumb. How does a 35, going on 36, year old goalie fit in the long term plans of this franchise? Maybe they could trade him next year, but with him holding out, they have no leverage in a trade. -
Kind of surprising considering how much heat he took for the last two playoff eliminations. He didn't score a single goal against the Pens in '09 and again last year against the Habs. I would think they would want to see if he can do something in the playoffs before offering a deal like that.

Effin Islanders! What exactly does picking up Nabokov do for them? They have no shot at a playoff spot, they're in a rebuilding phase, most of the team is young players. How does a 35 year old goalie playing for them for a couple months, help them? They should be getting DiPietro as much ice time as possible or seeing what they have in the minors. Nabokov should be going to a team heading for the playoffs and just need a veteran goalie to make a serious run. Him going to this disaster of a franchise is stupid. -

Of course they would make a move to make room for him, but why would that be a problem? Waive somebody, send someone to the minors, trade. I could easily see the Isles sending a goalie back to the minors and picking up Nabokov. I could just as easily see the Devils trading Hedberg (or even Brodeur) after getting Nabokov. -

You figure with meals, bathroom breaks and sleep its more like 15 hours. It'll go by like that! -

He would be a great fit in Washington, but no way does he drop that far. His deal is so cheap, he's practically free. You'd have to be nuts to pass on him. -

This deal has to be about making another team want to get rid of one of their goalies. If the Devils get him, Hedberg becomes expendable. If the Oilers get him, Khabibulin is expendable. The Wings can then move in and get somebody cheap. I would be really surprised to not see a trade between the Wings and whomever picks up Nabokov. -
Maybe Kenny worked out a deal with a lower team that if we sign Nabokov to a cheap deal, they pick him up off waivers and trade us their current goalie or someone else. So basically it would be like we're trading Nabokov to them. Sounds weird, but I'm grasping at straws now.
-
The Wings NEED another goalie. Osgood has been living on IR for the last two years and Howie can't/shouldn't play every night. If Howie gets injured in the playoffs, you can't turn to a guy that's keeps getting injured and would you really want the season hanging on Joey MacDonald? Nabby and Howie would be a great tandem and it would keep them fresh into the playoffs.
-
You left out the inevitable cheap shot from Orpik. Other than that, you're spot on. I'd feel a lot better about this if we weren't putting in our 3rd string goalie. It would be pretty sweet to beat them with half of our AHL team on their ice. lol

Mike Milbury disagreeing with the suspension means that it was 100% the right move.
-
He's 30?! Oh man, it seems just like yesterday he was in his 20's.
-
With Brodeur getting demoted to back up, at least temporarily, I'm wondering if he could be on the chopping block. They need to free up some cash for Parise for next year and I'm sure some contender out there could use Marty. I see this being like another Patrick Roy situation where he gets traded and does really well somewhere else.
-
I've thought of Helm as a great Draper replacement. Eaves will be a great Maltby replacement too. Ironically enough, they're numbers are similar too.

I love reading articles and listening to people that act like this isn't fixed. Letang has more votes than Ovechkin and Datsyuk combined. Yeah, okay, a write-in defenseman has more votes than the guys that's won 5 MVP awards in the last 3 years and the best overall player in the game. That seems realistic. The thing is, I actually used to enjoy the All Star game. But over the last few years, its like a competition to see what teams fans can hack the online balloting page and get their favorites voted in. They need to do away with fan voting or go with a more secure voting page or something.
