How do you think the Wings will do without Dats?
xtrememachine1 replied to #19=Legend's topic in General
It sucks, but its not the end of the world. Its a great chance for someone to step up and as long as he's 100% by April it'll be fine. Maybe the team, as a whole, can focus a little more on team defense knowing that we're not going to be getting his offense for a month. -
Yeah, I thought for sure that was going to get called. If they don't call that, I don't think we're getting a PP tonight.
-
That sounds about right.
-
He's 17-5. If that's a sophomore slump, I'll take it. The first two goals were great shots. The last one shouldn't have even happened. Stuart needs to poke that off his stick. The defense needs to be better. Salei and Stuart are not having great games.

I put the TV on mute after Chicago scored their first goal so I wouldn't have to hear that stupid goal song and left it on mute. Not in the mood to listen to announcers be biased against the Wings.
-
Exactly. The Pens are playing great right now and are without a doubt the best team in the East. But yeah... look at who they've beaten during this streak. People hear 12 game win streak and think "Ohh they must be really good!", then you look at the teams and you're like "Ohh... well they should be beating those teams, they suck". If they have a big win streak in January, when they play Boston twice, Montreal twice, and of course, US, then I'll be impressed.

Its funny that you post this because I was just discussing this with someone last week. He was trying to make the argument that the Pens were the team of the 90's and I was of course saying the Wings. 2 Presidents trophies, 3 Finals appearances, 2 Stanley Cups. Nobody can touch that from that decade. It is pretty crazy to think that the Wings are the team of the 90s AND 2000's. Two decades of dominance, something we may never see again in any sport.

Do you think Babcock will ever win the Jack Adams Award?
xtrememachine1 replied to a topic in General
I didn't even realize that until I saw this post. I just assumed he had already. I mean, he IS the best coach in hockey. There is no question in my mind about that. Maybe I'm biased or maybe I'm looking at the fact that he took the freakin Ducks to the Finals in 2003, won the Presidents trophy in 2006, won back to back Campbell Conference trophies and a Stanley Cup. Oh yeah and a gold medal. He's the best, that award is a joke. -
Nah, I'd be happier with our guys getting the weekend off and resting up for the second half of the season.

I like the Lightning now, for obvious reasons. I like the Caps for Ovechkin. Course, that will change if there's ever a rematch of '98. I used to like the Pens back when they had Lemieux, Francis, Recchi, Coffey, Bowman, etc. But this current team is a disgrace. Of course, playing against the Wings two years in a row helped push them further towards the "Hate" category. I'll probably like them again once this group of Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Staal retire, but that's not going to be for a LONG time unfortunately. Hate the Ducks, Blackhawks, Avs, Flames and anyone else that plays the Wings in the playoffs.

The first part of your post is true. However, the disallowed Flyer goal did not impact the outcome of the game and FSN Pittsburgh employee Lowell McDonald Jr (son of the former Pens player) was suspended. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/FSN_Pittsburgh_employee_suspended_.html?viewAll=Y&text= The BS surrounding this franchise is really getting bad though. I saw this game while at a bar and couldn't hear it, so I had no idea about any of this until this morning. lol

This is exactly what I was thinking. Non-Wings fans have been waiting for this franchise to have a down time for like 10 years now and they're pissed that it hasn't happened yet. I mean, look at all the other franchises in the NHL. How many times have they been good, then lousy and then good again, but throughout that entire span, the Wings have been great? They can't understand why can't their franchise do the same thing. The Flames were so bad for years, then they got Kipper and were good for a few years and now they're sinking down again and Calgary fans aren't ready for that. As for the complaining about the calls at the Joe, you can thank Teemu Selanne for that. It just takes one whiner and then they all jump on. I didn't see the game, but I saw the highlights and those seem like pretty straight forward calls to me. You can't jump on a guy's back and take him down. That's just dumb. The Flames are undisciplined, unmotivated, and have terrible coaching. Its not like the Flames are this great team and they got robbed by the refs. They're 14th in the West. Flames fans should be focusing more on why they're team sucks, not why they think they got robbed by the refs No kidding. Olli Jokinen again? Really?

LOL "Jacked", not "jacking". Jacked off = pissed off
-
Uhh what? I was watching the Pens lose, they took the lead with less than 2 minutes left, I quit watching and that's a typical Pens fan resposne?
-
I was watching this game and when the Pens scored those two quick goals, I got all jacked off and quit watching. Then like a few minutes later I hit "last" on the remote by accident and it went back to the Pens game and I saw they were in OT. I could NOT believe it. Glad those two "big name" free agent defensemen are helping out. Michalek fell flat on his face and Martin looked like he was swimming on the last goal.

How the hell does Howie get left off the list?

All-Star Game format change being considered
xtrememachine1 replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
One jersey will have a big Ovechkin face and the other will have a Crosby face. -
Gary Thorne was awesome. He made a ton of great calls for big Wings moments. Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond are my favs right now. The Capitals announcer, Joe Beninati is pretty good too.
-
The Penguins announcers are terrible. Errey and Paul Steigerwald both are beyond homerish. I swear, every time a Penguin hits the ice (almost like a reflex), Steigerwald says "<name> hits the ground, no penalty." I mean, the guy could lose an edge and he'll say that. They were the ones the joked about Hobey Baker crashing.

Devellano wanted Bourque w/ Lidstrom on the Blue Line...

If I remember correctly, it was Detroit, Colorado and Vancouver in the running for Roy. To this day, I still hate the fact that we didn't get Roy. If the Nordiques had stayed in Quebec for just one more year, we most likely would have gotten him (no way does Montreal trade him to their division rivals) and probably won at least one more Stanley Cup, if not a dynasty. -
They'll let this go, but tomorrow they'll disallow a Wings goal because Homer is standing too close to the crease. This league is so effed up

This was allowed to be posted on Yahoo? Its all opinion and full of inaccurate bashings.

The best thing they can do right now is let them stay together and see if they can develop some chemistry. There were several KHL players on their roster that clearly could not keep up with the NHL players. I understand that two points in Oct is just as valuable as two points in April, but the team is winning. They're not losing out on points because of the third line. This line needs time to build chemistry. These are three guys don't have a lot of experience playing together. Once they do build that chemistry, the team will be better off for the remaining 90%. If they are still not great by like December or January, then yeah, its time to make a change, but 6 games into the season? Give them a chance. These were just two of the most outrageous suggestions I saw while skimming through the thread. I realize its not the representation of everyone else.
-
10% of a season isn't that significant. In 2008, we lost 10 out of 11 games which included a 6 game losing streak. If I remember correctly, that season ended pretty good for us.
-
Ask and you shall receive. I simply used these as examples of how much people are overreacting to the lack of production from the third line. The reason Modano was brought into Detroit was to center the third line and give it some scoring punch. You can't give up on it after 6 games. 10% is of the season is not that significant. The first 10% is less significant. The NYI and Leafs are two of the best teams in the conference right now. What if the Wings gave up on Howard after his first 6 games last year? Patience is a virtue my friend. Its not like the Wings are 0-6 here. Call it whatever you want, that's a long time to be out of the NHL. Its going to take him a little bit of time to get readjusted to the speed of the NHL, longer than most players because he was out longer than most players, even ones with ACL injuries. Btw, the KHL is not a fairly high level, ask Team Russia.
