Sounds good! I'll order my Modano jersey now!
-
Love those lines! I'm thinking Mikey Mo will be #90 which is the reverse of #9 or #09.
-
Technically they're all shutdown lines, which is why this team is so friggin good. I was thinking he would play the right circle on the PP2, I don't know if he's ever played the point before.
-
I'm hearing that a lot of free agent defensemen are looking for $5 mil like Gonchar, Hamhuis, Volchenkov, Martin. Raffy and Nick at $6 mil and Kronner and Stuart at $3.5 mil are really looking good right now.
-
I like it! Maybe switch Bert and Hudler, but the rest is good.
-
I can't friggin stand the guy, but he was great in the faceoff circle, good defensively and led a team to a Stanley Cup. I'd say he had a pretty successful career.
-
You don't think so? He was the "Messiah" and led the Rangers to their first Cup in 54 years. He's the 4th Ranger ever to have his number retired. He wasn't a lifer like Yzerman, Sakic and Modano, but he was the face of that franchise and the Rangers kept him around until he decided to retire. I think that's pretty comparable.
-
Totally agree. He's been with that franchise since they were the Minnesota North Stars. Could you imagine the Wings letting Yzerman go near the end of his career? Or the Avs letting Sakic go? Or the Rangers letting Messier go? All they had to do was sign him to a small deal and put him on the third line. There are certain players that have earned the right to decide when its time to end it. Modano has been the face of that franchise for 20 years, he's earned it. Having said that, I would like to see him play a year in Detroit.

I chose the Wings because of Yzerman. The first game I ever watched was Pens vs Wings at the Joe in like 1986 or 87. I thought Stevie was a fun player to watch like Lemieux. Over the years, being the only Wings fan in town, they became MY Wings. After 20+ years of being a fan, I friggin love this team to death. More than any other team in sports. I even gave my son the middle name "Yzerman". They're a class act organization with exciting, talented and likable players. If they left Detroit or changed the team name and the organization top to bottom, they wouldn't be the Wings anymore. All that would I would need to happen for me not to cheer for this franchise anymore.

We had Sean Avery

Shelley wants $1.5 mil. So he's clearly lost his mind. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/rangers/rangers_will_pay_if_shelley_leaves_tzEOxtIyd1P6SLNMc9FjWJ

NHL 95 might be the greatest hockey video game of all time. I had it for the computer (still have it actually) and I played that thing to DEATH. You're right, Fedorov was great and I stomped all my friends with the Wings everytime we played. Good times

Once upon a time the Sharks were trying to unload him, but that was before Todd McClellan showed up. Since he took over as coach and installed that new system, Marleau has arguably been their best player. I think this signing means that Thornton is either on the trading block or they won't resign him after this year.
-
I would like to see Savard in Detroit, but I don't think we need to go trading a player like Flip or Huds AND our first rounder for a guy that has a crazy long contract and recently suffered a serious concussion. If we were to make a deal I would say trade just Hudler for Savard. Flip showed a lot of promise at the end of last year on Z's line.
-
Big Joe is a UFA after next year, so maybe they're thinking, keep Marleau and lose Thornton next year, rather than lose Marleau this year and keep Thornton.

I like it! Now make one with Lidstrom handing off the Cup to him next June.

Its a rivalry, so they have to keep it going somehow. Besides, watching Crosby act like a spoiled brat when the Wings beat him is good entertainment.

Blackhawks playing Wings for banner raising game
xtrememachine1 replied to HockeyTownHouligan's topic in General
Meh, who really cares? While they're admiring their banner from last year, we'll beating their ass on the ice and taking over first place in the division this year. -
I'd love to see Mikey Mo play a year for the Wings. Yeah, he's old and all, but he's a classy two way player, he was born in Michigan, and he would be a good fit for just a year. He and Nick (and anyone else thinking about retirement) can make one final run for the Cup. For the right price, he would fit in nicely on the third line and give us a bit of a scoring threat. He can't have his number 9 though.
-
Bert was not worth twice that. That means he would make more than Homer, as much as Filppula and almost as much as Franzen. People on this board keep talking about him getting 50-60 points next year, he hasn't had over 44 points in 4 years and its not like he's getting younger (or better).
-
I agree and don't forget Nick took less money too.
-
I hate to be a downer, but unless Bert finds the fountain of youth and reverts back to his 2003 form, this is a bad deal for the Wings. Statistically, his numbers were down from the previous year (44 points in 66 games in 09, 44 points in 82 games in '10), he's another year older and as I've mentioned before on this board, he doesn't exactly fit our system. The Wings system is about speed, passing and backchecking. He's slow, an average passer at best and barely plays any defense. Every time we pass him the puck, it easily gets stripped away. If anything, we should have gotten him for less than what we paid, not more.

Penguins open preseason schedule against Wings
xtrememachine1 replied to 96warrior's topic in General
I'll be there -
The '02 Wings were incapable of losing 4 out of 7 games. That was the only playoff year I wasn't screaming at the TV. I knew we had it in the bag before the playoffs even started. They were just too talented.
