I would have to disagree. I think as long as we have Datsyuk and Zetterberg we will be one of the elite teams in the league.
-
I'll give most of you the benefit of the doubt since you probably haven't watched as many Pens games as I have, but let me just give Michel Ouellet a big HELL NO! He was Michel Therrien's boy for years and was given every opportunity to shine and played like a POS. He's not strong defensively, he's not a fast skater and doesn't play physical. He would be a great addition for the GRG, but not the Wings.

Not only has Scotty coached three separate teams to championships, he's built some of the greatest teams in the history of his sport. No other coach in sports can claim that.

This has to be one of the funniest things I've ever read on this board.

Wings' interested in Sundin, Niedermeyer, Williams
xtrememachine1 replied to p_diddy_datsyuk_13's topic in General
I agree with you 100%. I said before Hossa left, it would be great to have Sundin for a discount because he would really fit in well with the Wings for a year. Using that little bit of money to sign Grier, Williams or Betts would be a waste. We lost 82 goals (Hossa, Hudler and Sammy) and have only signed Ville Leino to replace them. If even Leino scores 20 and Z scores 10 more than he did last year and Franzen scores an additional 10, we're still 42 goals down from last year. We need an extra scorer and Sundin would be ideal. -
Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings
xtrememachine1 replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Big Rig and Lilja are defensemen. What I should have said is "We didn't have any big FORWARDS for the last two years". Most of our forwards are fast two way players. To me adding Grier would be like adding a more physical version of Maltby and I don't want any Maltbys. Especially not with a spot on the second line that needs to be filled with at least a 20 goal scorer. -
HA!! You're in the wrong thread

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

I don't want him with the Wings. He's big and physical, but so what? We've gone to the Finals in each of the last two years without a big physical guy in our lineup. -
As I've said many times on this board, I would love to have Sundin on the Wings, even if it were just for a year. Sign him for $2 mil with incentives that could make it be worth like $4 mil. Until I see Sundin play poorly for an entire year, I won't believe this game has passed him by. He looked bad for awhile because he missed all of camp, was out of game shape and needed time to shake off the rust. He got much better as the season went on and I believe if he signed now, he would be a much better player throughout the season. As for Shanny, last time he wore a Wings uniform he scored 40 goals. Its 4 years later and I don't expect 40, but I don't think 20 is out of the question. If we signed him dirt cheap, I would be cool with that.

Why I May Have It Worse Than Anyone Here
xtrememachine1 replied to WingsFanInPensCountry's topic in General
It could be worse. You could be working for the surrounded by Pens fans and working for the Post-Gazette and your JOB is to put up Penguins celebration pictures and have Pens Stanley Cup pics shoved in your face every single day. Don't feel bad about trash talking your students, I never trash talked and I still got hell from everyone that knew I was a Wings fan. My phone rang literally 3 seconds after the game ended. It was like people around here cared more about rubbing in the Wings loss than celebrating the Pens win. So trash talk away, it won't matter, people will be jerks either way. -

The bolded part goes without saying. I think its impressive that the Wings did as well as they did. Take away any other teams top point producer and see how well they do in a best of seven series. Its unfortunate that those players were injured, but that's part of the game. I don't think it was the "deciding factor" seeing as how the Wings still had two opportunities to win the series in Game 6 and 7. -
Neither under any circumstances. Neither is fast or can play defense. Their ability to score is what makes them worthy of a roster spot and neither have been doing such a great job of that lately.
-
This really isn't that big of a deal. While it looks bad to see a big name signing miss the first couple months due to an injury, they'll still have him for the part that counts, the playoffs.
-
In 2006, the Penguins bought a bunch of free agents to go along with their top tier young superstars. They lacked goaltending and good coaching and got crushed. At the time a lot of people thought that team would be Cup contenders as well. Not saying it'll happen to the Hawks, but it has happend before. If they're able to move Campbell, I applaud them, but who will want a $7 mil defenseman that isn't playing well? Plus, there's the chance the cap will go down again next year. $7 mil is a ton of cap space to commit to any one player, let alone someone who's drastically under performing. As for Gomez, when he has someone to pass to, he's really good, which is why they went after Brian Gionta. Those two had great chemistry on the Devils.

"He's just a little injured. He's still good. He's still good!"
-
You'll have that with Flip. Every thread I've ever seen this guy on, he's screaming and carrying on and attacking other posters. Its what he does. As for Hossa's injury, this would explain why he played so poorly in the playoffs. Although at that time of year, a lot of players are injured so I don't know if that's a valid excuse.

Seriously, this guy needs to stop talking.... Hawkeytown?

Hossa: "Its great to be in a hockey town."
xtrememachine1 replied to xtrememachine1's topic in General
True, but I think he'll be done after this next season. He'll be 39 at the end of next year, Maltby's contract will expire and most likely not be renewed, so I'm thinking that Drapes will call it quits after this year. -

xtrememachine1 replied to xtrememachine1's topic in General
Yeah the true hurts huh? Wow, a whole 5 mil to players that will be off the books after next year. Plus, we're not risking our franchise players in having them like the Hawks with Hossa, Huet and Campbell. Yep and you make it easy too. If you could argue your point without being a jerk and without resorting to personal attacks, then it wouldn't be so easy to put you in your place. I respond to you with facts and you respond to me with insults and attacks. "The first man to raise a fist is the man who run out of ideas" - HG Wells. -
Those that aren't already happy to have him, will be by mid October.

It wasn't my intent for this to be a "Hossa bash". I just think its amazing that after all the crap he had to deal with from the media over the past year he would be more careful with his words and he says this. Everyone, as you can see from the Puck Daddy blog, makes a "hockey town" and "HOCKEYTOWN" connection and it can be perceived as a shot at his old team. -

xtrememachine1 replied to xtrememachine1's topic in General
And yet another attack from a guy that thinks Hawks GM... wait former GM Dale Tallon, is a genius. Are you still mad at me because I put you in your place last time we talked? Get over it. As I had mentioned before, I think its interesting that a month after he leaves HOCKEYTOWN, he says its great to be in a "hockey town". Its a bad choice of words, just like last year. And you would think after all the crap he went through with the media over the past year, he would choose he words more carefully. He didn't say that after he left Atlanta or Pittsburgh, he says it after he leaves Detroit which is called Hockeytown by everyone. I'm not disputing that Chicago is a great "hockey town". Its an original six city, it better be. I think Hossa's choice of words are bad. That's pretty much all I was trying to point out in this post.
