This is worse. This would have been like Hossa leaving the Pens for the Flyers.
-
That's a good point. Its not realistic for the Hawks to acquire Hossa on a long term deal with guys like Toews and Kane yet to be signed long term. Saying he's close to the Hawks, is a good way to make the Wings jump. I mean, look how fast we all jumped when we read this.
-
I said if Hossa left, I wouldn't have any bad feelings towards him, but if he leaves the Wings for the friggin Blackhawks.... :battle:
-
Please tell me you're kidding.
-
Moves like that always leave me scratching my head. Why would anyone willingly go to Tampa now? The weather? I mean, cmon
-
I have a computer next to me refreshing every couple minutes. Its the next best thing
-
It is. Daniel is the goal scorer between the two of them, so I might be able to see him making that, but no way is Henrik Sedin worth $6 mil.
-
Wow! They took the plunge. Crazy
-
His CAP HIT was $3.75 to $4 per year, not how much he'd make. He would make $6 or $7 mil per year for the first 6 years, then the deal would go down significantly, lowering the hit. At that point though, the Wings wouldn't want to have a 36 year old count for $4 mil against the cap and would buy him out or he would retire. Hossa would still get his money in Detroit. Again, to everyone that thinks he's taking a 50% pay cut, his CAP HIT is the only thing going down by 50%. He would be making almost the same as he made this past year.
-
I'm kind of surprised he's leaving. I mean, he came here wanting to win a Cup, comes within one game of doing that and then gives up. If you want to win the Cup, why give up when you're so close? He hasn't signed with another team yet, but I'm guessing the team that does sign him, won't have as good a chance of winning it as the Wings. If he takes a big contract with a team like the Kings, then good for him, but I never figured him to be a quitter.
-
Gomez to Habs eh? Now they have another playmaker with no one to pass to.

I had the weirdest nightmare last night. The Flames significantly improved their defensemen by signing Jay Bouwmeester and the Wings lost their leading goal scorer to free agency.... wait.... oh crap

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

For what its worth Eklund is saying that a Hossa to Detroit deal will be announced tonight. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Upda...os-more/1/21862 -
Unless he found a cure for old age while he was gone, I'll pass and I'm usually a guy that says "Give the old guy one last shot"

1 year, $2 million Not bad for Guerin http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283250

I thought for sure that Hossa would have signed with us by now. The fact that he hasn't leads me to believe, he probably won't. I think he'll end up with the Kings. With Nick entering the final year of his contract and possibly career, I'd like to see Bouwmeester with the Wings so when the time comes and he does leave, the drop isn't so severe. The Wings live and die with their defense, so you can never really spend too much on defensemen. I expect his price tag to be too high though. I know how most of the people feel on this board about Sundin, but I'd like to see him on the team for a year at a discount price. He would make a hell of a second line center with Franzen and Flip. Gaborik will be with the Canucks, Heatley will go to NYR and the Sedins will be with NYI.

Why would Hossa care what his cap hit is? With a genius like Holland and guy like Hossa that clearly wants to play for us, I can't see some kind of deal that works in everyone's favor not getting done. Both sides want this.
-
You guys aren't getting it. Hossa isn't be offered $4 mil per year. That's not the offer. The CAP HIT will be $4 mil per year. The deal that the Wings supposedly have on the table pay Hossa $7 mil for the first six years and $1 mil for the last six. By the time he's 36, he'll either retire or the Wings will buy out his contract. Its the same thing they did with Zetterberg and Franzen.

97 Wings are the best out of those four teams. Between 97 Wings and 92 Pens, I think its 97 Wings hands down. Strong defense, Russian 5, Yzerman, Shanny. I actually think the 91 Pens would be a tougher test. At least that team had Recchi and Coffey. But the 2002 Wings were the best. Three members of that team were selected for the Hall of Fame today and they won't be the last. There was no question in my mind, from the start of the season, that team would win it all.

Yzerman, Hull, Robitaille named to Hall of Fame

Way to go Stevie!!! No argument with this class at all. All four of these guys were locks as soon as they became eligible. Has there ever been a class this strong? -
Come on babs put Z and Dats back together!

I thought those were pretty decent lines, then I saw the Meech/Kindl pairing. Yikes -
I think Hossa will be signed for $4 per year cap hit and I really think Sundin would sign for like $1 mil. He wants to win a Cup and he could do it with a lot of the same guys he won a gold medal with. He would be another hungry veteran, a great second line center, a valuable right handed shot to play the left circle on the PP. I think he would be a great fit for this team for one year at the right price. Anything more in terms of years or money and I'd have to pass.

If those AHLers are Abdelkader, Helm and Leino... that's cool. -
