Whats up Detroit... Not a Pens or Wings fan
xtrememachine1 replied to notapensfaninpgh's topic in General
This is 1000% accurate! lol See what you're missing out on Detroit? A month from now, no one in Pittsburgh will even remember the outcome of this series. I keep hearing how Pittsburgh is the "REAL" Hockeytown. Most of the people in this city don't even watch hockey until February. I heard one yinzer yell, "Where's Hossa?!" back in Feb. I usually listen to Mark Madden, but I can't listen to him now. "Its time for Detroit to pass the torch and if they don't, then the young Penguins will rip it out of their veiny hands!" Last year, he acted like he was Moses delivering the 10 commandments proclaiming, "PENS IN SIX, PENS IN SIX! It has been predicted, so shall it be done!" Too bad he got fired before the end of the series. -
Hossa to be re-signed after postseason
xtrememachine1 replied to TheGoonSquad0208's topic in General
Hossa isn't getting a deal that will hit our cap that hard. He's not going to make more than Z or Datsyuk next year. I'm thinking somewhere around 5.5-6.0, but I'm hoping for even less than that. -
Holmstrom, we could do without, but Rafalski would be disastrous.
-
But I was having so much fun watching Z OWN Sidney. lol
-
He just doesn't want to be one of those non-active losers in a t-shirt holding up the Cup.
-
The Wings are the superior team, but that doesn't mean they'll win. The 96 Pens were superior to the Panthers and that didn't end well for Pittsburgh. Having said that though, I think the Wings will come away with a "W" in Game 4, knowing that they can ice it at home on Saturday.
-
I think his number one problem right now is he doesn't have anyone to work with. He had Homer and Filp on his line last night and every Penguin on the ice was swarming him. Datsyuk would be a very welcome addition to his line right about now.

SCF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 4
xtrememachine1 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Despite: - Malkin playing when he shouldn't have been - Crosby two handing Z and getting away with it - Playing with 6 guys on the ice - Kunitz cross checking Franzen in the head - Ozzie not having his best game - Weak penalties being called on the Wings We STILL had a chance to win. If we're better on the PK, we win the game despite all that crap. Besides, dating back to 2003, the winner of Game 3 in the SCF, went on to lose the series. -
How in the world did you 583 ??
-
I thought the calls were crap too, but that doesn't mean we have to play lousy on the PK. If we're good on the PK, it doesn't matter how many ridiculous penalties you get. If you feel like the refs robbed you, then you didn't play hard enough.

Hossa to be re-signed after postseason
xtrememachine1 replied to TheGoonSquad0208's topic in General
I'd be careful with stuff like this. All I heard last summer was that Hossa was going to resign in Pittsburgh. Basically it was just the media here trying to get the story first whether they knew it for a fact or not. -
So that's how its supposed to work out? They're supposed to go where they're needed more? I can almost hear your little whiny voice, "That's OUR GUY and you STOLE HIM! We need him more than you!!"
-
That's what she said As for the rest of your post, I live in Pittsburgh. All I heard last summer from the media and from Pens fans, was "If we sign Hossa, we'll lose Malkin or Staal" or "If we sign Hossa, Malkin, Staal and Fleury to long term deals, we'll be just like the Lightning with a few stars and a bunch of scrubs." The Lightning were considered to be a young team on the verge of greatness too, when they won their Cup. On the Wings, he's part of a team with leadership and depth. On the Pens, he's a star with nobody backing him up.
-
The free agent signing period started July 1st. He signed with the Wings July 2nd. Yeah... he took a really long time to decide there. A whole day! Wow! Shero dropped the ball. If you can't resign a player, long term before he becomes a UFA, then you have to have a backup plan already in place. As for his "went to Detroit because he wanted to win a Cup", see my other post about this. At that point in time, he did have a much better chance to win the Cup in Detroit than Pittsburgh. So yes - update your Hossa 101 course, it has quite a few errors in it.
-
When he made his decision here were his options: The Pens - Bad coach, but was given a 3 year extension. Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Staal were all going to be eating up tons of money and if he signed for what they were offering they would have even less money available. It would be like playing for the Lightning. OR The Wings - Defending champs, great coach, the system they play fits his style of play perfectly, could comfortably sign with them for one year and not have to worry about the team falling apart due to cap restrictions. There's the "Greater Glory" and then there's using your freakin head. If Hossa wins it this year, do you think 30 years from now he'll care how he won it? Winning the Cup is as good as it gets, no matter how its done.
-
Yeah, he passed up a ton of money because winning a Stanley Cup means more to him. What a jerk!
-
Wow! You're comparing the Red Wings to the Nazis? Are you freaking serious?
-
The idiot I used to work with used fireworks in his backyard on his Pens Hossa t-shirt that he just bought right before the Finals. Hossa may be the most hated sports figure in Pittsburgh of all time. Which is absurd, but that's Pittsburgh for you.
-
I think those are good lines for a road matchup. The third line may draw the Crosby line without Draper. With Draper, Cleary and Helm, we have three fast defensive forwards. My guess is that the Pens will use Crosby against our second line of Filp, Homer and Hossa. The 4th would be ideal for them, but they won't be out there enough to be effective. The thing is we have TONS of two way forwards, so Crosby thinking that he'll get away from being defended well at home is foolish.
-
Yeah and then they won the Cup on June 4th... when's Game 4 this year? I'm thinking of a word and it rhymes with weep.... hmmmm
-
Wow! That's crazy! Usually I think of stuff like that too. Impressive
-
Every Pens fan I've talked to wanted a slashing penalty because Dupuis stick broke. I've actually had to deal with some pretty POed fans about it too. They feel like this was the turning point and they were wronged by the refs.
-
I have a lot of angry Pittsburghers around me bitching about that "slash". This animated GIF will come in handy.

Before every big Wings playoff series I watch this video. Its very inspirational and gets the positive energy going. This is something the Wings locker room should watch too.
