You hit it exactly -- if he had pulled this garbage on your guy, this place would be going ape. Since it's another team's guy, well -- no biggie. Don't forget the puck Ovechkin shot right at Scuderi as the buzzer sounded either. He did both for the exact reason you mentioned -- he got all sulky because things weren't going his way anymore. But hey, he's got that "passion" thing going so it's OK right?

Well gosh, maybe that will make up for the oh, 10 or 12 non-calls the Capitals got away with the first couple games. Not to mention Ovechkin's Academy-Award dive. But hey, nobody says anything about Ovechkin 'cuz he's got that, you know, passion for the game thing going on.
-
Wow, someone else who recognizes Ovechkin's diving... like I said, the acting job he put on last night should get him nominated for the Oscars next year. Got a sweet Power Play out of that one. Didn't see anyone put up any posts about it though. Glad you realize some of what Crosby's up against too, unlike any other player in the game today. Last night, both guys had hat tricks. Ovechkin scored one being fed beautifully on a power play where there wasn't another player within 10 feet of him. On the other hand, Crosby scored two goals where he was surrounded, and had to dig and shoot 3 or 4 times before it went in. (Although the third Ovechkin goal was a sweet end-around move similar to one Crosby scored in Game 1.) Crosby carried his team last night. Nobody else on the team did a single frickin' thing. Ovechkin played an awesome game, but got a lot more help from his squad.

Please show me ANYONE who paraded the Pens as the "real champs" anywhere. Are you really that insecure? Hossa dived, nobody said anything. Imagine if that had been Crosby. Ovechkin acted like he got shot in the face by a cannon last night -- Sir Lawrence Olivier would've been proud of that little display of drama. Again, nobody said anything. But I guess that's his "passion for the game" in action huh? Again, imagine if Crosby had done that. Crosby brings some of the stuff on himself, no doubt. But read the whole article quoted. See if it's really that bad after you read the rest of what he had to say.

Just wondering if a crushing loss like that has raised the fear factor any. Doo bee doo bee doo.

The best team in hockey this year, and deserved the Cup. As for the Pens, you don't know how to deal with a championship series until you've been there, and it showed. Too much of a hole by the time they finally learned to play some competitive games. As I said before the series, we'd have to see how they'd deal with this factor, which obviously Detroit has been through before. Remember, the Penguins only learned how to conquer the playoffs themselves this season. Believe me, nobody in Pittsburgh is bumming over this, which is why you saw the reaction you did at the end of the game. No shame in losing to what was the overall better, more experienced team. Once the trio of Crosby, Malkin and Staal finally reach the legal drinking age, things will be better. But for now, the better team won. Enjoy! Oh, and of course... doo bee doo bee doo.

Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings

Why laugh? It was only the single most important factor of the series. Last year, the Penguins showed up for the first time in the playoffs against Ottawa. They had no idea what to expect, and look absolutely shell shocked. You saw the ahem, slight difference the next time they drew Ottawa in the playoffs. It's all about step by step improvement and learning. Anyway, this isn't supposed to be about the Pens, it's about congrats to the current champs. Doo bee doo bee doo. -

Getting a little nervous, Detroit fans?

Let's see, a team is 30 seconds away from a championship, the fans are already celebrating, the Cup has been taken out of its case, and suddenly -- pffffttt! The whole deal taken away in an instant. Nah, nothing crushing about that huh? Dude, I've heard louder morgues than that arena after that happened Monday. Now I do agree that Detroit's a lot closer, and Pens fans have no business being all cocky right now. They won't be able to steal another one the way they did the other night. But c'mon, saying what happened didn't sting is a bit ridiculous. -
And how did that work out? Can anyone say "New England Patriots Perfect 19-0 Season"? That shirt is kind of like, oh I don't know, screaming "we got the Cup!" with 34.3 seconds to go, up one super-secure goal. Or showing the hockey-watching nation the Stanley Cup being taken out of its case before the game's over.

I'd say the Pens bounced back rather nicely from those first two losses. As for Crosby's stick -- perhaps he'll use it to score the winning goal tomorrow. Ya just never know. -

Perhaps you missed the big city wide rally and "fair weather" grass-roots effort that forced the City Council to give in to the new arena demands? Oh I guess you were busy that day. You could look at Malkin's slump as proof of his incompetence... or you could say the Pens are breathing down the Wings' necks right now, without Malkin having shown up yet. Imagine what happens if he does? Anyway, hats off to both teams for providing one of the best hockey spectacles ever. -
SCF Game 5 GDT: Penguins 4, Red Wings 3 (3OT)

Crushing losses like this are what ruin a team... rationalize all you want, but the Wings aura of invincibility is at a trainwreck end. Hats off to both teams though, for one of the best hockey games I've ever seen. Should make for an amazing Game 6 -- and dare I say, Game 7. Doo bee doo bee doo. -
Point taken -- but look who the Wings faced their first two rounds before they got Dallas. More tomato cans than a supermarket. Pretty cushy road there, while we're on the subject of getting to face duds. The ease of competition argument goes both ways here I'm afraid. Doo bee doo bee doo.

Oh my GAWD someone had the nerve to pick the Penguins -- arggghhh meltdown time! For those dismissing the Pens -- regardless of Detroit's skill, they have NOT faced anything like Pittsburgh yet. As someone here said, the Pens' top 2 lines blow away the rest of the NHL. Their overall talent is unsurpassed, so you won't have the usual automatic advantage there. If anything here's the key -- the Pens came into their playoff infancy last year, and had no idea what it was all about. They learned fast after getting dumped even faster. They've clearly taken the next step. But not the last, the championship step, which is the biggest. Detroit's been there, they've got the PhD. So have the Pens come all the way, or is there yet one last class before they earn their degree? We'll see. Doo bee doo bee doo. And of course -- Beware the Penguin.
-
This is a cocky bunch here to say the least, so you match up well with the Pens' boards. The key to this series is simple -- how the Penguins' underrated defense holds up against the Wings' formidable attack. We already know Detroit has a defense -- but how do they fare against an attack the likes they haven't seen yet. Should be fun to find out on both ends.
