'History Will Be Made' Ad Campaign Is Coming Back!
weGotTheCup89 replied to zombi's topic in General
Good move by the NHL. I hope this year they don't use highlights from the previous game though. I'm against most situations declaring a moment as "history" in its immediate aftermath... especially with the way these commercials are set up. Example: "What if _____ hadn't ______ ?" And then the answer is still "they would've still lost their first round series" -
I don't think it's simply a problem of the players being signed for too much money, the players talked about in the article are those being paid too much for an extended period of time. How can you blame the agents for asking for too much money? His Agent: "Hey Wade Redden, we decided that you weren't worth as much as the best salary we could get you... we wanted to protect you from getting stuck in the minors for 5 years so take this significantly lower pay instead." ^^THAT MAKES NO SENSE The solution is simple, look no farther than the NBA: Make it so the only way that teams up against the salary cap can wriggle out from under bad contracts is to trade those bad contracts to other teams with cap space, along with a first or second round draft pick and/or money or something else to compensate for eating a bad contract, and make it so that team can keep the player or buy them out to absorb the contract. This keeps the best players IN THE LEAGUE, and makes it so the owners/general managers hand out good contracts or pay the price with their future (in draft picks) when they don't. Spending less money becomes an asset, and lower-salaried teams can build their future by getting more draft picks when they take on another bad contract. Once again, this is not the player or agent's fault for getting the best contract that someone will give them.. we call this capitalism, and you have a lot of work to do before that becomes a crime.

The truth is, these teams wear their third jerseys in attempt to throw off the Wings' moxie. The strange colors and logos are specially designed to disorient the Winged Wheelers. Fortunately our heroes are much too clever.

Not even Nicholas Lindstrom

Good to see Matthew Snyder doing something

The Palace opened in 1988 (22/23 years old), the Joe Louis opened in 1979 (31/32). Very significant difference.

Man... stevkrause: Honestly though, I don't understand your sense of entitlement here. You could always go to another city with an amazing arena to watch those games and get your 'money's worth.' Heck, go to Toronto and spend by far the most of any NHL fans and watch in comfort. The fact is, in a capitalist market, there's no reason why the Red Wings should charge less than they can get for tickets. Myself, I attend hockey games not to be comfortable, but because I want to see some good hockey. In the terms of getting your 'money's worth', the product the Wings put on the ice consistently from year to year makes it worth my while to attend. No one forces you to buy $8 beers or $5 hot dogs. In response to the original poster, I have sat in 203B several times, and while I agree it isn't perfectly comfortable, there isn't really a bad vantage point anywhere in JLA. If you have more money to spend on tickets and would like to sit in the lower bowl, you have a little more leg room. For me though, I'll take the seats I can usually find for $35 or less in the upper bowl.

What's your problem with Brett Hull? Just because a guy talks too much doesn't make him an *******. He helped us win a cup, so he's fine in my book. I love the jab though.

Lidstrom will never retire. /thread

Frazen - the past tense of frozen

I don't think Franzen could pull a Kournikova, but then again, he's damned effective when it really, really counts.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/allstar2011/news/story?id=6053814 There was a thread showing the possibility of this the other day, but I'd like to have a discussion on whether this will change the NHL's policy of forcing players to attend the ASG, as opposed to the player being discussed being able to get away with anything. Mods, please delete if you find the thread redundant.

Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended
weGotTheCup89 replied to Matt's topic in General
1. For Fedorov, we didn't go to Russia and force him onto a plane to come play for us. Yes, we were the enabler, but we didn't help him do anything he didn't want to do. 2. Personally, I don't think there was anything wrong with Snow picking the guy up, it's in the rules, and was no way underhanded. What I do have a problem is when Nabokov says "I won't play for you," he goes back and says, "Well if you're not playing for us, you can't play for anyone" when Nabokov specifically stated he only wanted to play for a contender. I have to believe the waiver rule will be looked at in the offseason, because as it stands, the NYI don't really have any motivation to let Nabokov go for nothing other than not looking like bad people in the eyes of future players who will think about playing in Long Island. -

In my opinion, signing a 570k contract specifically with the Red Wings hinted as his intentions that he wanted to play for a contender. I believe he could've gotten more if he had talked to another team that needed a goalie at this point in the season and had more than exactly 570k in cap space. Here's your quote, though it's recent, and there was no reason to make a statement before saying he didn't want to play for [specific team]: -

The point you're making is utter nonsense: Because of this move, the team could perform better Because of this move, the team could perform worse And because there are pros to each of the options, it was a good move by Snow Brilliant, sir. /s -
To hell with Notre Dame!

Every other power rankings I ever remember reading... did not overreact to one week of play. Look at the teams that were ranked highly last week - Washington now at 14, Chicago at 20, New Jersey at 28? I didn't think these rankings were supposed to be a straight copy and paste from league standings.

Marty Turco, Jack Johnson, Ryan Kesler appearance Tuesday at Best Buy
weGotTheCup89 replied to Detroit40oz's topic in General
Sweet, thanks again for the tip, I headed down for the Tigers game just after 6 and walked up to the 2K11 trailer looking for people. There really were just a handful of kids around playing the Wii game, so I asked the security guy running the thing where the players were. He went inside the trailer and out came Jack Johnson and Marty Turco to sign some stuff, and I chatted with them for a bit. Steve Ott was there too hanging out with Turco, which was a cool surprise. Kesler just stayed in the trailer, though someone else went in and got him to sign my photo. I jokingly (somewhat) told the guy to go tell Kesler he was a bum for going to Ohio State. He agreed. Here's the stuff I got signed, pretty cool experience: -

oh wow, I'd do anything for Turco's autograph on some Michigan merchandise... if only I didn't have work =( -
Haha yes we're all Happy Hudlers now! I did enjoy all those pictures though, and saved a bunch of them, thanks

Haha I don't know where you're actually from, but I hope you know that's the Palace of Auburn Hills where the Pistons play, not the Joe?

Don't want to say for sure, but I do know a few years ago they were saying basically anything from the 90s in sports cards (the entire period I collected) was incredibly devalued just because there were so many cards printed of every set, while now the good cards are all in limited sets.

now they just better not sign claude lemieux to do a show with him... barf... once was enough
