This. These responses all seem absurd to me- like others have said, if Holmstrom is gone, I believe Lidstrom is gone as well. And there's no way Lidstrom retires this year. Much like Hossa came here in large part to Kopecky, and then the Hawks signed Kopecky along with Hossa the next year. In regards to Homer being "done" or "useless," there has not been a season in recent memory that did not end with Holmstrom being severely reduced due to the beatings he took over the course of the season. While, yes, he is older now, athleticism was never the key to his game, and we'll all see to start next season Homer hasn't slipped as far as we all assumed.

That was clearly a penalty! Goalies like Carey Price shouldn't be allowed to be so intimidating. I'm expecting a suspension, Shanny!

Come on, I think you've judged him rather unfairly. He came here excited to go out into the sunset with a final Cup while contributing any way he could. He got injured early in the season and we were unable to see the 'what could have been' with the guy. For the first time in his career, not being a top-six forward, he wasn't even a 3rd or 4th line guy in the playoffs, as he was a healthy scratch. With the quote in question, I think he knew what it would take to play at 100% post-wrist injury, and knew it just wasn't going to happen and that he would be relatively ineffective. It was embarrassing for him to be up in the box during the most important games of the year, and then see the team lose. I think he felt the discontent from the fans and media on how his season actually turned out. He deliberated last summer on if he would actually come back and play another year, and he decided that yes, it was absolutely worth his while to try another year with an organization like the Wings. Generally, I think he finished the season upset with how it turned out and how he felt that he was treated. The potential to end his career on a high note ended up an embarrassment as a finish to his career, and he'd like more than anything to end it better ... but not here in Detroit. ..And there's nothing wrong with that.

At that concert after he lifted the Cup, he also said that they better enjoy it, because it would be back in Detroit the next year.
