    Hockey Card Collectors

Awesome user picture! I still have a poster of that NHL2K game hung up in my room from 10 years ago when they gave them out as a promotion at some roller hockey festival by Hockeytown Authentics.

    Loophole

I just really wish it would've been a 30 year deal or something so absurd they would have to do something about it. But really, I don't have a problem with it, it's actually surprising it has taken this long after the new CBA for so many contracts like this to be signed.

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

He should wear "41" for the age he'll be when he wins the Cup next June

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

woohoo! I was just about to post that too, great news, can't wait to see all the new possibilities he brings to our team!

What is it why you're a fan of this team?

Detroit seems to get so much negative media and exposure, it is nice to have teams for all 4 of the major American sports. The Red Wings are an extension of the city and give me pride that I can claim them as my own. "Detroit" is a brand, whether talking about the auto industry, Motown music, or a team like the Red Wings. With you being from Finland, this may be the only exposure you get to the city, and I am glad that even if nothing else, we still have that connection. If the team ever left the city, I would feel betrayed and wouldn't be able to support them anymore (fortunately I don't think it's possible they ever will).

    Modano done in Dallas

I'm split on how I feel about this. On one hand, this is awful, and as the face of the franchise for the past 20 years he should have the ability to stay as long as he wants, at the right price of course. However, Nieuwendyk played with him for many years, and the two are probably on the same page. It is not the same situation as with Yzerman, as many of you suggest, because at that time, the Wings were still at the top of the standings. In the end it took Yzerman's retirement for Datsyuk and Zetterberg to rise to prominence, and this is similar in Dallas, where they really just need to move forward and say "the team we have right now isn't working, we need to show everyone else we're moving on and in a different direction." I don't think it's as villainous as suggested to force Modano out, and I hope we bring him home to finish his career.

Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire

Ville Leino appears to have a reasonable contract for a top line forward! (I'm sorry, awful joke, it hurts a bit though) I'd really like to bring Bert back, I wish for his sake that he could end his career on a high note or do something notable to improve his standing in the eyes of fans around the league. He is still viewed in the same light as Michael Vick by many, and I hate that he's not able to redeem himself from the one moment that defined his career (Jim Joyce? we'll see)

Which defunct team would you like to see make a comeback?

I'm not sure if "defunct" is quite the right term to describe these teams, since most of them still exist today, just under different names and in different cities. But I'd say the Nordiques. It just seems novel to have a team in Quebec, and that Lindros trade they pulled off is still amazing to think about the effects it had.

Ron MacLean saves a man's life

Ron MacLean as "Clarence" in "It's a Wonderful Life" MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
  12. Yeah, personally I'd just resign Bert a similar number as last year, and then sit on some cap space. This is still a top-notch team, and since we can't predict what type of injuries we'll be looking at in February, I'd be happy to trade draft picks for a top-6 forward if that's what we need at the trade deadline to compete for the Cup.

RWC Posts Final 2009-2010 Prospect Rankings

I saw this kid play in the championship round in Stockholm, and I can attest, he did look very good. He made the highest jump out of anyone on the list, and I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same thing next year.

    Improving by upgrading Todd Bertuzzi

look into every option to improve this team? but i am le tired.

    Adam Burish

worth it if they win a championship... and more likely that guys will take discounts to stay (see Detroit Red Wings). but then yes, they will still be have to let a lot of guys go haha

Wings will sign multi-year lease at the Joe

Eh, I'm just hoping Mr. I doesn't have to waste too much money renovating the JLA if it's going to be scrapped in a few years.. Kind of unrelated, but I was hoping the Joe closing would mean expansion for Cobo Hall to help Detroit retain the auto show. Does anyone know if closing the Joe would help that issue?

Steve Yzerman named TB's new GM

Ugh... I guess I have a reason to cheer for Tampa Bay now. All I can think is "he'll be back sooner than we know it." Hope this doesn't discourage Lidstrom from staying around..

Why would anyone want MTL to win.

Why would I want Montreal to win? Because they've got the Michigan connection: Mike Cammalleri, Max Pacioretty and Aaron Palushaj in the wings

    Homer Contract Disussion

Yeah sorry, just couldn't remember.. I wouldn't expect Homer would want to take a discount in order to sign a longer term deal, he seems like a guy who will play as long as he can
  21. weGotTheCup89

    Homer Contract Disussion

What is the rule in the CBA about signing a contract after a certain age? Since Homer is 37 wouldn't all years count towards the Wings' future cap even if he decided to retire mid-way through his contract?

Leonsis: NHL in better financial shape than NBA

I can see where he's coming from. It seems to me that there are very few surprises in the NBA. At the beginning of the season, you know what 5 or 6 teams are competing, and those are usually the teams left standing at the end (Boston, Lakers, Magic, Cleveland). If you're not one of those teams, or if you don't have a superstar on your roster, it will be hard to keep your fans interested and seats filled

Todd Bertuzzi--Still a Great Talent or Lightning in a Bottle?

I'm interested in Asham as a 4th liner and enforcer. He doesn't seem to be a liability, and other than more goals, I think he's the type of player we should be looking to add for a low salary.
  24. Can we start a Uwe Krupp appreciation thread?

Does anyone think the Eastern conference can win the Cup?

    I think it's 50/50
