    PRONGER TRADED TO LA

I really hope this is true, maybe I can like the ducks now that they have UM grads Jack Johnson and Mark Mitera.

How to decide the Conn Smythe?

Actually the worst case scenario would be that we won zero trophies... but that's the optimism I like to see here.

    Katrina Hancock

This only applies to people in the Detroit area who get to watch Channel 4's postgame coverage of Wings games but... Does anyone else really despise Katrina Hancock? I swear she gives the worst interview everytime, always asking how the player felt when something happened. Along the lines of "This guy scored for the other team, how did you feel after that?" and to Helmer tonight: "How does it feel to not be celebrating tonight?" And then she's a giant and always gets within eight inches of the player's face. Lidstrom's the only guy in the locker room with the balls to be able to look her in the eye for more than a split second... And of course last year she said that Pittsburgh had better fans than us, but regardless of that, very frustrating to watch..

hopefully it doesn't come down to that, but that wouldn't be out of character for either party. =P

    Thoughts from the Penguin's Nest

You're right. If all those clutches and grabs were called you probably wouldn't have won. and yeah, those 48 penalty minutes for the pens, what happened to calling the same amount of penalties for both teams regardless what happens?
  9. Pavel is my favorite player, but this idea just seemed too good to not put up here.

    Officiating thread

    1. Hal Gill is a goon. 2. You make us look like the Pens boards after the first 2 games, saying the only reason that we lost was because of the refs. Fact is, Fleury played a lot better, Osgood let in more goals on fewer shots (though I'm not blaming him for the majority of those goals), we couldn't clear the puck for 90 seconds of that power play and so they finally scored. 3. Don't forget that after the other teams campaign after getting whitewashed in the first 2 games about calls, the remainder of the series gets officiated differently. (ie. Pitt last year, Columbus (they cheat on the faceoffs!!), Anaheim, and Chicago). We're gonna be fine.

    A Year To The Day

So here we are, a year from the date of the most epic Game 5 of the 2008 Finals. The Joe was hype, and as loud as I could ever remember it, with everyone expecting us to bring the Cup home that night. However, we started off pretty weak and got down early until we turned it on for the second half of regulation (the story of most of these playoffs too, no?) From about the midpoint of regulation, the Wings just caught fire, and we saw some of the best end-to-end hockey I can remember, with I believe the Wings scoring 3 consecutive goals after getting down 2-0. The Joe was going crazy, and there was an incredible sense of true euphoria with the minutes ticking down and the unbridled "WE WANT THE CUP!" chant.. and then 34.7 happened and we went to one overtime, two overtime, THREE OVERTIMES, with the Wings playing some of their best hockey ever and we lost following a Jiri Hudler double minor, with Fleury ending with fifty-some saves. And yes, I realize that we won the Cup the next game and all was forgiven, but this game raises a few questions for me still: Are we gonna see that same Fleury that we saw last year play out of his mind again, or even just well enough to steal a game? Will we see the Wings again dominate play like they did around this time last year, or is Pittsburgh going to keep outshooting us? And... is anyone else still scarred by this loss? When I think about all the good things that the Wings have done, I keep coming back to this game and think how I was less than a minute from seeing Nick Lidstrom and the team celebrate right before my eyes.. but maybe I'm just bitter LET'S WIN GAME 3!!

can we resign Hossa and Hudler/Samuelsson?

Babcock absolutely LOVES Sammy, he'll be back, especially if he'll take a contract similar to what he has right now. And Huds for 2.5 would be nice.

    A Year To The Day

Maybe on June 24, thanks! Yeah, emotional roller coaster for sure, but the best game I've ever been to. But I also went to Game 7 of the Anaheim series this year. Perfect vindication, and that "Oh, this is what it's like to be here when we win a series in that fashion" feeling was great.

Why the Wings will lose this series

Don't forget we only got 2 days off after the Chicago series, which we had no break going into the series... we haven't had Datsyuk or Draper playing yet... we played 2 games in 2 nights.. That might explain some of the "dumping and chasing" and un-Red Wing - like play. We're 10-1 at home and 4-3 on the road this playoffs... Let's just win game 3, and things look great. =)

    Interesting Campbell-Hate Article on Yahoo

Sorry to cross this line.... but: A "living document" gives a dead U.S. Constitution. and A "living document" gives us an NHL rulebook that is bent and enforced on a whim. I see little difference; the laws and rules were made for a reason, you gotta enforce them like they were originally meant to be.

I also liked how when Helm scored the Chicago series winner the announcers first announced that it was great that it was his first career playoff goal and then later that it was his 5th career playoff goal without rescinding the first statement.
  23. haha that's great, perfectly fitting no?

    Malkin's penalty rescinded (merged)

meh, I'd rather beat the Penguins with Malkin in the lineup, though it seems it's always hardest to win Game 3 on the road.. oh well, I do wish that they would've waited until tomorrow to announce so it would seem that Campbell deliberated over it more..

    Nickname for Helm!

Sounds like you have baseball on the brain. (Tigers won the Wild Card with Sparky Anderson?)
