Thank gosh Babcock made the call tonight and not you

This isn't all that complex: Osgood has been playing somewhere between POOR and GOOD depending on the night. Howard has been playing somewhere between GOOD and OUT OF HIS FREAKING MIND depending on the night. Which one would you go with when we are strapped for wins? If your answer is Osgood, you should probably go get checked out for a concussion... We aren't in a position to give Ozzie some games just for the SAKE of giving Ozzie some games. We need every point we can get and right now our best bet is Howard.... Period, end, dot..

I just called DirecTV hoping to pull a discount out of them like many people have but even after like 15 mins on the phone there was no mention of discounts or anything.. Is anyone still getting discounts due to the Versus issue? Did you do anything inparticular??? Thx!! -Z

DirecTV is more expensive than cable depending on you selected viewing package. You also will pay a bit more for your cable since you wouldn't be getting budled services from Comcast. UPDATE: I posted the original topic while I was still on the phone with DirecTV and ended up being on the phone with them for over an hour. Here is what I was told discount-wise. If you have been with DirecTV for a year or more then they have more options as far as discounts, etc.. Me being with them for less than a year, I was able to pull out 3 months free HD Extra package (like 6 channels...mostly useless though) and 1 month free of Shotime channels 537-545 including I think 5 of them in HD. The gentleman I spoke to was very nice and sounded really sorry for the experience because I told them that I feel that their policy of the 'if uv been with us for at least a year' thing is completely backwards in my situation. I switched to them just prior to the hockey season (and AFTER they discontinued showing Versus) and told them that I was switching for the simple reason of getting NHL Center Ice in HD as opposed to standard def (Time Warner Cable). The channel guide online had Versus listed and so did the channel guides that the installation technician gave me. With all of that being the case, I have every right to assume that I would get a major network such as Versus. Do they really expect me to sit them down and go through all 600+ channels one by one and ask if they still provide those networks? I felt pretty cheezed. Once the guy really felt my side of the argument he gave me the address of the "office of the president" who I should get a reply from in 10-14 days. Let me know if anyone wants the address. I told him that I'm not willing to pay the extra $20-$30 a month all the way to the playoffs then STILL have to pay my $400 early cancellation fee to switch back to cable. But if wasn't paying so much extra for the next few months then I'd be willing to wait it out until around playoff time to pay the 400 bucks to switch back. That's when he gave me the address. I'd feel even more robbed if I paid them almost the $100 extra over the next 3 months (as opposed to cable) and THEN paid the $400 early cancellation fee ALL because of their omission of important information (malicious intent or not)! -Z

I don't think..at all..that there is enough of a market and enough $ to support another team here. HOWEVER I'm tired of all the bashing around this forum. Can't everyone be mature enough to disagree with someones opinion without being a jack@as when presenting their own??

Why did Mickey and company just say that the Wings don't expect to get anybody back until mid January??? Filps should be back within 2 weeks. Mid January should be Williams and mid-Feb Franzen **crosses fingers*

3-2 Wings Zetterberg will finally bury at least one off a nice Leino setup Go Wings

"The NHL's Murphy said the League's Hockey Operations group will "internalize and see if we can come up with a better solution or a better answer. If there is one we'll find one."" Really? Screw you

I hope Hank never sees that.

Red Wings VP Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590: Wings fans should lower expec
agziolkow replied to kook_10's topic in General
I don't want to hear the excuses from him or other fans. It might be a transitional year, but there is NO need for him to come out and talk to the extreme that he did..especially after game 9. It's early and we still have a lot of talent and a great system. It's going to take some time for the new/young guys to get used to the system and more importantly it's going to take some time for guys like draper, maltby and filps (who had a great game last night btw) to step up. They were primarily grinders and tertiary scorers. They were the guys who, when they scored, it would go down as an extra added "bonus" to the scoreboard that night. They have the talent to score more, but it'll take some time for them to adjust their style of play to fill their slighly changed roles. Mr. VP needs to stop talking about next year and focus on this year. When the season ends he can go play the market with all the new money. Something more appropriate he could have said would have gone something like this: "Things aren't going to come quite as easy this year with the loss of so many goals from the roster. We're going to have to work a lot harder and grind out some much less "pretty" goals..much like our opposition has done against us for years. The situation might be a little different next year with the extra cap space - but we are expected to win in the here and now and that's still our plan." Oh, and our oh so untalented team did manage to put up 49 shots last night against a streaking team and had some beautiful chances. Anderson won that game for Colorado. Hands down. -
Hey everyone, I'm in the Phoenix area for business this week and it looks like I'm going to the game on Thu. Anyone else going? -Z

Ha sounds good. Just look for a Winter Classic Franzen jersey. I'll be out there in as long as it takes me to get there after getting out of work (leaving somewhere between 3-5).
-
Hey man did you decide where you are going yet? I will be off work in Scottsdale by 5 and plan on heading down right from work.

If it hasn't been posted yet..here is a link to a form where they just ask for your info and send an email to directv on your behalf. http://versus1.viewerlink.tv/ It only takes half a minute and you get to get some anger out on directv and maybe even do some good if we're lucky Pass it around...!

Where can you stream Versus from?

As of now DirecTV doesn't have it listed under available channels for new customers. Thinking of signing up today to get center ice in HD in my new house. Argh what to do???

Disclaimer: All overly emotional and doomsday posters disregard. This is a true question from a true fan So, we have made it to 17 straight playoff appearances and have had a legitimate shot to win the cup each of those years..if not been the favorite. My question is...are we getting to complacent with "our" success? There's 2 different aspects of this debate. #1) The front office and the skaters themselves. Personally, I think that the front office and the players seem to be doing a pretty good job of not taking much for granted. The office seems to be looking to win both long term (locking in possible franshise players in long-term deals and consistently signing all stars for one year deals). Although there is some talk of individual players getting lazy mid-season, I think that the franchise is doing everything it can to win. My bigger concern lies with us, the fans. So #2, the general population of Hockeytown. While I agree that most of the members of this site are die hard fans who bleed red in more than the physiological sense, I'm afraid that much of the general population is becoming slowly desensitized to winning. For lack of a better term, it "feels" like many fans are starting to downplay small successes and blow up every small disappointment. Attendance being down may largely due to the economy tanking...but even our consistantly losing teams like the Lions still pack the stands each and every game..yet even the Wings playoff sellouts have loads of sold seats remaining vacant during the playoffs unless it's a potential series-clenching match. I love the fact that the Wings have had almost 2 decades of regular season successes...but I'm afraid that we are taking it for granted and slowly starting to lose apprecciation for how lucky we are every time the red and white come out on top after 3 periods whether it be a preseason game, playoff game, or a stanley cup final match. Due to my job, I've had to move around the country and have gone to Wings games as much as possible in other venues. It is something else to see how excited these other fans are just to see their team competing for a playoff spot..when we should be even more excited to always be a "shoe in". The reality is that the Joe should be rocking every night in apprecciation and excitment at the prospect of another great season....and this should be more and more the case with every win, every year. We as fans need to show these other towns who think they are something else by a year or two of success..or even the prospect of success (Chicago sure comes to mind)..that this is Hockeytown, that we all know it, and that we love it. I don't want to feel like the only guy standing in my section when the Wings score..even if the goal puts us up 6-0 in the 2nd.. Just some thoughts. -Z

Ha that's why I posted....to hope and bring the thread back haha. I'm out of town or else I'd probably add to it myself...!

He's your best friend and you're only a silver booster of his little venture here? What kind of friend are you? Tsk Tsk -Z

I agree with most of what you said, but I wouldn't say that Hossa's goal scoring is a wash. They'll make the playoffs one way or another. As long as Hossa is scoring at a 40 goals over 80some game PACE when he returns, then they'll have him and his scoring when it REALLY counts..the final 2/3s and the playoffs. Now..if he goes cold in the playoffs like he did a bit with us...then who cares Overall, I do think that Chicago is better off this year than last..but I can't see that what they did with their GM as working out for the better in the future. The goalie situation MAY hurt them a little in the long run, too..unless he pulls out a Mason-type season as a lot of first time #1 goaltenders seem to do for ONE year whenever it is most inconvienant for us. Khabibulin and Huet actually have very comparable career SV % and GAA numbers over their career and sort of last season....so who knows. Khabibulin obviously has more experience as a #1 but Huet did play I believe 41 games in the regular season and plenty in the playoffs so he should feel fairly comfortable in making the transition. Frickin' off season....

What is the name of Kid Rock's beer? Is he still trying to come out with a cigar too??

I had Moose Drool a few times in Washington state. Pretty good stuff. Oh and you don't like Molson and actually called Labatt "s***" ?!?!?! ur crazy..... I think I'm going to have to drink a six pack of Labatt soon just to right the wrong you just did to the name. It's as good of an excuse as any to go drink 6 of 'em haha.

But that'd mean that the Thrashers would have to be good.... It sucks that Detroit isn't going to ATL or Tampa at all during the regular season this year. -Z
