Biggest argument for Ovechkin is the tear that the Caps have gone on after he became captain. Leading the league in points is just icing on the cake. edit: He also leads the league by 10 points with 4-8 less games played than the rest of the top 10. -
Bert is older, and makes less than half as much. I'd say the Wings have easily gotten their moneys worth out of him, and he's really picked it up since the start of the season.

This team does look far better than most efforts we've seen in a month or so. If they keep giving the effort they did tonight they will be in the playoffs, and they will be a scary lower seed team to play. Calgary scores and will take it to OT. Damnit. edit again, Calgary goal SHOULD be waved off, spectacular/lucky save by Turco. We'll see how it turns out. As Canadaboy says, No goal! Good call.

As has been pointed out, people on LGW think that Atlanta would give up their now-leading scorer for some odds and ends (when the guy in question is only making 800k, which really only makes him more valuable).

Suck it up and hope that Lilja coming back helps. I don't think breaking up Rafalski and Lids is going to actually address the problem, it will just make him look better. He needs to learn, not have his hand held by a better defenseman.

To be fair he does make some great plays... but at the same time a lot of goals go in while he is on the ice. Lids is by far our best defenseman, no question at this point.
