i have a feeling we are going to see how vital the mule is for us.

i'll preface this by saying that i am easy to please, since being a wings fan they have delivered 2 stanley cups, my first 2 ever championships as a sports fan. so while i would love for them to win every season, i am happy and content, and if they dont win another for 5 years, i'll still be a happy fan. (although my preference of course would be a 5-peat.) anyway the point of that preface is to say that this thread has put in my mind what i would like to see realistically from the wings this year if they dont win it all. (i dont expect them to, but of course would take it.) what I would like to see is the wings make the 7th or 8th seed and draw Chicago in the first round and upset them. that would make me satisfied, just like i was last year when they beat the f***s in 7 games. everything after that was gravy for me.

Shnnahan was the reason i became a wings fan in 2002. i used to be a Whalers fan, and stopped watching hockey when they moved. came back to hockey in 2002 and went with the team that had my all time fav player. the game 5 goal to seal it in 2002 against the canes is one of my all time sports moments ever. i'd retire the number, but im biased.

i would rather of lost this game, than lose game 7 to the f***s, I mean Ducks. And to learn today that Pronger got traded to one of the worst teams in the league makes this not such a bad day. and yeah, croby now has 1 cup. Some of our players have 4, so nice one kid, you still got alot more to win to get to our league. and i will agree with some of you, Dan Balsma is a nice guy, im happy for him. (only him, f*** the rest of them)

f*** him, who cares? i care about crosby about as much as i do about malkins moms f***ed up russian soup.

im sad, but this is not even close to my worst all time playoff losses as a fan. i thought it would be. i started watching sports in 85 and from 1985-2001, 3 teams a season i had never won a title. Thats almost 60 seasons! When finally the Wings gave me my first one in 2002, and then another last year, im not too upset. I love this team, im just sad they didnt become immortal. I wanted Babcock to become Scotty Bowman like. He is my all time fav. I hope he is the coach here for the next 10 years. Also, I still want Hossa, I feel real bad for him. I still appreciate that he took less money to come here, and if he signs long term I'll buy his jersey. As soon as the handshake line was over, I popped in last years win, and im going to watch 2002. Then im going to pop in that Wings DVD box set with all of the best games, and I'll be fine. I just want to say I love this place, and I look forward to the game threads during the regular seasons, even the ones in the dog days of the season on saturday afternoon in Buffallo or playing the Islanders. see you next year

I like to bet sports, im not excellent at it, but I pay attention. The movement of the line is making me feel better about tonights game. If there is anyone who pays attention to this kind of stuff, I would like to see your thoughts. Anyway, the line opened at Wings -150, which means basicly you bet $100 to win $75. So the juice eats up $25. Now however the line is -190, and I have seen it as high as -210! That means if you bet $100, you only win $50. If you take the Pens +170, you win $170. The Wings are heavy favs here. Now whats the big deal? Well in my opinion there are times that when the public is hard on one side or another the line doesnt move. If the line didnt move as much as it has, I would be very worried because that would tell me they want money on the Wings, which means they know or at least their insiders feel strongly the pens win, so they want the money on the wings so they can get paid. I hope im making sense for yall. The bottom line is, its clear that since Vegas keeps moving the line up and up, they want money on the Pens. Why would they want to discourage people from bettin on the Wings? Because they feel strongly they will win. I mean, jeez, have you seen -210 at all this entire playoffs for anyone? Im not betting this game, but if I was no way im taking -210, the juice eats up all the profit. I mean you get less than $50 if you bet $100, thats how strong of a favorite we are. That has to be good.

beted, logans, sportsbook, have -210, and betjamacia just put it at -220. what the heck is going on? wow. this link lists them all: http://www.covers.com/pageloader/pageloade..._summary_1.html

GDT 2009 WCSF GAME 7: Ducks 3 at Red Wings 4
paul19010 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in Hall of Fame
im too excited to type. for them to win in the face of such screwing by the refs, to win after how dirty the ducks play, to win after losing triple ot, getting screwed in game 3, and to win after the refs gave the ducks 2 goals in game 7 and let them get away with murder is the single most satisfying win i have ever experiences in my sports life. i am so very proud of the wings and this is the best series win ever. and i hope the goal by clearly shouldnt have counted, that would be sweet justice, and finally one last time, f*** THE ******* DUCKS!!! f*** f*** f*** THEM!! GOOD BYE ASSHOLES!- 1,913 replies

i guess im in the minority. while im disapointed about tonight, im not worried or upset. i thought this series would go 6 or 7, and after getting hosed in game 3, im not suprised to see this go 7. wings will win game 7 and we can put this brutal series behind us and pronger, perry, getslaf, and fukermeyer can watch us take the Hawks in 5 while they f*** each other in the ass.

i live in philly but never followed the sports teams here, i like players, im not one to root for a team just because they play down the street. so as a kid I loved the Hartford Whalers, and I loved when they got Brendan Shannahan cause he was such a bad ass. I never had cable so it was very hard to watch games and i would tape the few times the flyers would play hartford on local tv and watch those games over and over. in the rare instances the Whalers made the playoffs i would go over to my grandfathers to watch them get swept, usually by Boston. a few years passed and I really got into the NBA and the Knicks, and since hockey was not much on television i stopped watching for a long time. my focal point was the whole knicks bulls, nba thing for a while. when the Knicks traded Patrick Ewing in 2000 it left a heavy void in my sports fandom world, and the NBA started to really really suck, and one night I happened to turn on a hockey game, this was like 2001-2002, and I remembered how awesome of a sport it was. And this was much more clutch and grab back then, not like now which is even more awesome. anyway since i was an adult and had directv it hit me, why the hell dont i get nhl center ice? the whole directv sports package thing was newer to me at the time. now of course there was a big problem, and that was that the Hartford Whalers no longer existed, and there was no way I was going to be a Canes fan after they left Hartford and took away my beloved Whalers. So I looked around and I saw that Shannahan was still in the league, and I began watching the Red Wings. I was really disapointed in the NBA and the lack of effort that many of the players put on every night, and was struck me was the Wings were the total opposite of that, of course you can argue hockey players in general are that way. so that was that, I became a wings fan in 2001-2002. Of course winning the cup that year was awesome, and the final goal shot by Shanny in game 5 against Carolina is one of the greatest sports moments of my life. Sadly this was followed by some of the most devastating losses I would ever experience as a sports fan, more devastating than anything ever felt as a Knicks fan. And if you kept up with 90's NBA you will realize that the Knicks had some of the most devastating losses a franchise could have. After the 02 cup it was really bad, the 03 sweep, the Game 6 OT loss to calgary in 04, then the lockout which I thought was the end of the Wings being contenders possibly, then probably the single most devastating game I have ever expereinced which was game 6 of the Oilers vs Wings series. In 07 I was just happy they got out of the first round, and they did it with some drama in OT against Calgary. While the loss to the Ducks hurt, I was just happy to see them go far, it had been a while. I really also love Mike Babcock, more than any coach in any sport, no matter what happens, no matter how bad he stays the course. always even keel. i thought he really became an elite coach after keeping it together after the game 5 loss against the Pens in triple OT. And I tell you if the Wings beat the f***s tonight, after losing in triple OT, and then getting robbed in game 3, and somehow pull this off and repeat, Babcock goes to near legendary status in my book. This has been a hell of a run, I have to pinch myself, my teams never win titles, and there is a chance the Wings will give me a 3rd. Its crazy. Hockey used to be number 3 on my sports list, ever since the rule changes in 06, its number 1, and its to the point where I dont even care that much about my other teams in other sports. I never won a super bowl or an NBA title, and have 2 Cups, I would rather have the Wings repeat, and make it 3, then win either a Super Bowl or NBA title. Hockey is the purest, greatest sport ever. and im very proud to be a fan of the greatest franchise in the history of sports. man, glad shannahan wasent on another team in 01-02. lol

no way. i am not loving conklin right now. after the boston game i dont want to see him in any more big games. (as big as a regular season game can get). i know you cant play Osgood every night, so im not going to question Babcocks usage of him. would have rather Conklin play against the Jackets and Osgood against Bruins. but again, I am not going to question Babcock cause he is the man.

hell no. i wouldnt wear any teams jersey other than the wings. however i do make exceptions for defunct franchises like the whalers, jets, etc. thats more of showing respect to the roots. although if it was a nords jersey it couldnt be forsberg. the rivaly is over but i still make mental comments like "what an ahole he is" when i hear about Patrick Roy and his son getting into fights or whatever.
