I like his honesty. And it's hard to argue with what he says, the Wings are handicapped by the salary cap this year and will have to fight harder than in a long time just to make the playoffs. It's pretty huge to not have either Franzen or Hossa. We don't have that clutch goalscorer that can give us those late game-tying or game-winning goals. Funny how even if we had re-signed them both we would still be without them right now though. It's gonna take a while for the team to adjust to winning games 2-1 and 3-2. They haven't done it just yet, but the last few games have shown that they're tightening up on defense/PK.

6-1 Wings. Hank finally gets the scoring going and nets a hat-trick. Datsyuk with 4 assists and a goal. Lidstrom and Leino with one each.

Atleast he didn't skip any media events. That's a REAL suspendable offense. Who cares if someone goes around slewfooting players.. let'em.

It's like this every year.. always some hot young prospect who is the "next one". Sometimes they do become superstars right away, but most of these prospects are not ready to carry an NHL team by their own right from the get-go. Even a Crosby or Ovechkin doesn't do all that much difference if you don't have guys like Staal, Malkin, Fleury, Backstrom and Semin to help them out. and anyone (mindfly) who thinks the Wings will be anywhere near a top 5, let alone a top 10 pick in next year's draft is out of their mind. anyone who actively WANTS them to do badly to get a high draft pick needs to go "cheer" for another team. I hear the Leafs are looking like a real contender for that #1 pick. The Wings have the longest playoff streak in pro sports, I say let's keep that going. Once there anything can happen.

Yep. That doesn't apply to the Leafs though, instead they have 6/7 defensemen who suck. Did you guys think we could have Lilja out for a year and not feel any consequences? Lebda is what we have to live with until he returns, if he returns.

Comparisons to that season would be more appropriate if we still had a healthy Franzen. With him (and Lilja) out, it's going to be a struggle this year. Panic is not necessary, but it would be an amazing feat if the Wings were to get 50+ wins this year. But I agree that people need to calm down and stop calling for every other player to be traded and coaches fired and whatnot.

Hjalmarsson would be good anywhere on the Wings. He has huge potential. But I don't think the Hawks would let him go, Bowman thinks pretty highly of him.

Wow someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Again. Leino and hands of cement does not compute. He's got great hands. I don't think you know what weak on the skates means. Do you mean that he is slow? Because then you atleast have something close to a point, he's not blazing fast.

I wouldn't mind having Frolov on the Wings, but at the cost of Leino and Abdelkader? No way. Those two are here to stay.

He said during the last 30 games. Now maybe he meant regular season only, and in that case I agree he's been on and off. But most of the last 30 games for him came during the playoffs, and he was along with Osgood probably the top Smythe candidate on the Wings. This year he's had a slow start due to his groin, but he looked great in the last 2 games. And he still has a point per game if I'm not mistaken. He's getting there, he's gonna have a good year.
