Datsyuk has become a better player every year, so I think it's kinda crazy to say he's past his prime. He's had a slow start to this year, but it's too soon to say he's in decline. On the other hand the TSN "experts" were saying that "injuries are behind him" in regard to Pavel before this season, so it's pretty obvious these guys don't know much about him (what injuries??). Zetterberg is pretty clearly in his prime. I see no reason to say he's past it. Sometimes I'm afraid he gets too heavy a defensive duty, to the detriment of his offensive game, but if he gets to play with Pavel this season he should get some help on both sides of the ice.

Gonchar is a big part of their PP, so this might slow them down a bit. Emphasis being on "a bit". They're still gonna tear up the East like nobody's business. obligatory "yeah because this means they won't have injuries in april"-post

Saw this on TSN earlier today, pretty funny. When I saw the thread title my first thought was "wait, the Blues did the same thing?".

With Abdelkader up with the Wings I'm sure the Griffins have a spot open so to say.

I gotta say Brodeur's is in a class of it's own out of those masks. Simple, elegant, goes perfectly with the team colors. Luongo's is also kinda cool. And I agree with whoever said Lundqvist has a nice mask. Don't know why they went with Valiquette instead, who has one of the worst in the league. Howard's is pretty nice too. Just hope we don't see too much of it

Just get Yzerman and Lidstrom to take over and we're set.

Interesting. I love hearing about the people behind-the-scenes. He clearly deserves a lot of recognition, sounds like he's really a key part of why the Wings are where they are today.

All I would do is switch Draper and Helm. Who has chemistry? Flip and Leino, Pavel and Hank. Split them all up? Put Datsyuk and Filppula together, both of them primarily playmakers? Homer isn't exactly a sniper despite his 4 goals. Those lines might be worth trying at some point if the team is doing very bad, but for now there's no reason to not keep the 2nd line together as they've been great, and put Dats and Z on the first line to give us a lot of firepower.

Lundqvist is damn near unbeatable right now and San Jose really hasn't played that well. I'm predicting a 5-1 Rangers win. edit: oh, Valiquette is playing. Well, I'm changing my prediction to a 4-3 Rangers win.

If Gustavsson doesn't bail out the Leafs I could totally see them doing something silly and making some kind of deal for not only Huet but also Campbell.

The only times I hate it when the Wings don't play for a couple of days is when there are no other interesting games on. Or like yesterday, NO GAMES AT ALL. Wtf NHL? The schedule this year sucks. Right now it's good for the Wings to get some extra rest though. Especially since it means Datsyuk won't miss as many games as he might have otherwise.

For as much s*** as Osgood gets around here, there are a lot of goalies that have let in some way more embarrassing goals this season. This goal on Huet, Lundqvist from mid-ice, Varlamov from the corner, Toskala from everywhere..

I don't know what negative things you could possibly have seen in Fil's play tonight. He was fantastic. Strong on the puck, made some nice plays, scored a goal, solid defensively. And he's skating better than anyone except maybe Helm. Leino had one of his weaker games this season, still did alright though and was instrumental in Fil's goal.

Other than the goals he let by him he looked fine.. lol..

I wouldn't blame him for the entire defense, but tonight he did some costly mistakes. I'm hoping he'll improve as the season goes on. Remember he still hasn't had a ton of NHL experience, and it's a much different thing to play next to Lebda than it is to play next to Lidstrom.

This loss is worse than the one against the Sabres. Atleast in that game you knew they were gonna lose early on. Tonight they played fantastic for 50 minutes, but couldn't convert on many chances, then made a few mistakes and they all ended up in the back of the net. Weirdly enough Ozzie can't be blamed (he IS terrible at SO's though). Hank was great, Fil's line was great, Helm and Abby were good (though seemed to slow down a bit in the 2nd half of the game), I thought Lids had a strong game.. Ericsson made some costly mistakes though. He needs to have more patience. God, tough loss.

Ozzie's been good this game but I don't think the shoot-out is his strongest discipline.. have to be a little pessimistic and say the Avs are the favorites to get the extra point here. They also have the momentum since they played the best in the last 10 mins and OT.

Yeah this game shouldn't be anywhere near OT. For 50 minutes this looked like a safe as heck W. Shame to say it, but Ericsson overplayed 2 situations and it led to goals. The Duchene goal is kinda on Ozzie. Wings better put it away in OT, don't want a shoot-out... Z with the winner.

I don't really see how that was Lebda's fault or even what he could have done differently. It was basically a 2-on-1 after Ericsson missplayed it. Can't expect Lidstromian defense from Lebda.

Okay, that's 40 minutes. If the Wings just keep this up a W should be in the bag. Avs are badly outshot and are clearly having a hard time with the Wings forecheck. A post of two and a fan by Leino is all that keeps this game from being over. Gotta say these lines look good. Only thing missing is some more chemistry on the top line. Even though Bert scored on a pass from Hank, they don't seem to be clicking. Leino and Fil's line have been great once again.
