$1.4 million per year. Can't believe the money guys like Orr, Brashear, Kopecky (lol) etc. are getting.
-
Helm is a great center. Z/Pav, Flip, Helm, Draper, Abdelkader can come up when Draper gets injured.

Three players gone... what's next for Wings?

Leino, Helm. Hopefully Sammy and/or Hudler return. edit: Cammalleri would be a great fit on the Fil's wing on the 2nd line. Can we afford him? -
Kopy has potential to be worth that money. He showed glimpses of it towards the end of this season. I'm sure this helped Hossa's decision. He knew the Wings couldn't keep Kopy, but the Hawks said they'd sign him as well. This feels a bit strange. Gonna be weird playing against both of them a ton of times next season.

Even though the Hawks will have some serious cap trouble beyond next year, the deal itself is pretty good I think. I would have loved to have Hossa for $5M cap hit, if the Wings just had room for him. Imo he deserves something in between Z and Franzen, and this is exactly that. The Hawks are following the Wings lead with a long-term deal that lowers the cap hit. Smart imo. They have to think they can do something about Huet and/or Campbell's contracts though. Will be awful to see Hossa play against us a lot next year. But atleast I don't dislike the Hawks. And it will be sweet when we knock them out of the playoffs.

aaaaaaaarghhh It will be painful to see him in the Hawks next year. This might potentially have some serious repurcussions for the Hawks after next season though.. wonder what money they're giving Hossa.. better be more than 6 mil or I'm gonna be mad he didn't sign with us.
-
4yrs/4mil I think. Bit expensive, wouldn't want him on the Wings for that price.
-
Hawks lose to Wings in WCF and Wings go on to win the cup. How hilarious would that be?
-
Really sounds like he's CLOSE to signing with the Hawks. This is very, very surprising to me. This would definitely up the rivalry if it goes through..
-
That would be pretty much my worst case scenario. I don't want to see him play against us every other week.
-
Yeah, they don't really need a lot to become a contender. They have Vinny, Stamkos, Marty STL and now Hedman and Ohlund.
-
Hmm.. this would be a VERY good acquisition for Tampa if true imo. Bring in a veteran guy to bring some stability to their D and act as a mentor to Hedman.
-
It's a little bit expensive, but not that much of an overpayment. Both of them are very close to a PPG in the last 4 seasons. They're never injured, play in all situations, have great chemistry together (best in the league probably, yes better than Hank and Pav) etc. This year they showed they can produce in the playoffs as well. At $5.0-5.5M it would have been an awesome deal, now it's just OK, neither a bargain or an overpayment.

Better overall core of defensemen - Flames or Wings?

Rafalski is NOT abysmal defensively. Sometimes he's a bit slow and easy to beat on the outside, but most of the time he's positioned well and he's definitely better than PHANEUF. His biggest strenght is obviously his puck-moving skills and play on the point on the PP, but he quietly does a good job on the defense as well. Phaneuf is so damn overrated. I wouldn't take him over a bag of wet donuts. -
This was expected imo, after the Vancouver people went to sweden just to talk to them and give them their last offer.
-
...and that's where Colton Orr comes in.
-
Oilers are the winners if this goes through. I think the Sens were getting a bit desperate and didn't want to pay that bonus to Heatley.
-
nvm.
-
Ok, if Heatley goes to the Oilers I'm gonna go with either the Sedins or Hossa to the Rangers.
-
I think the Hossa thing was just Kenny jumping at an opportunity. That Hossa would go to the Wings was a real long-shot, and probably not something Kenny even believed would happen. I've always gotten the impression that he is a straight-shooter and tells it like it is. But at the same time he knows when he has to change his strategy or when there's a chance to make something happen.
-
Very, very small. For a hockey player it's a big risk to sign one-year deals.
-
They gave him the best offer they could give. Holland isn't stupid, he must have known there was very little chance Hossa would accept that offer, but he simply couldn't go any higher.
-
If true, I'm actually a little bit relieved. He's a great player and it was nice having him. We just don't have the cap room to fit him in.
-
I don't care how much you fight, if you have 10 points and are a -13 in 60 games you're not worth more than $1.7M. Hell, even that seems expensive to me.
