Yeah I can't believe they're paying that guy $6.5M a year.
-
I haven't seen Bouwmeester play very much, so I have yet to see the big deal about him. Is he really worth $6.6M or is it more of a case of them paying him for potential?
-
Oh year, definitely. Drury to Ottawa maybe, for Heatley? And then the Rangers can afford to get Hossa as well, though they'd need some centermen of course.

What 2 are you thinking of?

Is that you Don Cherry? Whoop-de-do he's more physical. Lidstrom is better at everything else, including preventing the other team from scoring (otherwise known as playing defense, the main job of a DEFENSEMAN). -
Great move by the Rangers imo. I really see Heatley going to the Rangers now.

Seriously I would freak out if Fil got traded. I could live with Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Cleary etc. being traded, but Fil is to me a big part of the future of this team. People started noticing him for real in the playoffs, so I don't think they'd have a hard time finding interested teams, but I have a feeling Fil is on the verge of a real breakout season. -

The same argument you make for Lids not being in the top 10, I'd make about Brodeur. I think he's been on the decline for a couple of years, and although he's without a doubt one of the best goalies to ever play, I don't think he's top 3 in the league right now. Maybe it's just his complete choking in the playoffs this year that make me say that, but I'd say Lundqvist, Luongo and Backstrom are all better than Marty right now. Having Chara in the top 10 over Lids is insane imo. I know Chara won the Norris this year, but looking at both statistics and actual play out there on the ice for most of the season, Lids is still the best defenseman in the league. Chara had a Vezina winner behind him, and still had worse +/- than Lids who had the worst starting goalie in the league behind him. That's gotta count for something. I agree that maybe Z isn't a top 10 player in the league. Top 10 forward? Hell yes. But not quite up there when you take goalies and d-men into account. Lids is definitely up there STILL. -

Well know we're beginning to see why Penguin fans hate him I guess. Make up your mind man! Would any team even be interested in buying the rights of a player at this point? Not many hours left until free agency. -

To me that list is ok for the most part. Certainly not perfect though. I wonder if "will", "determination", "heart" and "dedication" are part of the scoring. If so Zetterberg should be a lot higher. He's the perfect example of a player whose greatness doesn't show up in a statistical analysis. -
Yup, seems like something is up in STL. They have a good team in place, if they could add a high-end player like Heatley or Hossa they could be a real threat. He seemed to take it in an awesome way btw.
-
Well Franzen is on that list. Maybe he isn't a PF in the true (old) sense of the title, but in the modern NHL he is.

The Wings scored the most goals in the league this season. If their defense and goaltending had been just a tad better they would have won the President's Trophy without breaking a sweat. Some of those 40 goals will be dispersed throughout the lineup. Zetterberg was aiming for 50 goals last year, and I know he'll be going after that with a vengeance next year. Franzen could get 40 goals easily. Leino could be a 20 goal scorer I think. Helm could chip in atleast 5-10. And with a tighter defense and Ozzie playing better, we won't miss the few additional goals. Instead of winning games 6-5 and 7-4 we'll win 3-2 and 4-1. -
I think he does. He could definitely be more physical with that big body, but when he takes the puck to the net, runs over the goalie and scores he looks like a power forward to me. To me, if Getzlaf and Iginla are power forwards then it's definitely debatable whether or not Franzen is one.
-
That's racist.
-
If you have to be a fighter to be called a Power-forward, then I guess they're probably a dying breed. Not many teams want their star players to drop their gloves constantly. I think there are power-forwards in the league. I'd call Franzen a PF, but I'm guessing you wouldn't.
-
I'm a bit interested in Fredrik Sjostrom. He declined an offer from the Rags and is now looking at other teams. He's cheap, $0.875, great on the PK, good on the forecheck, brings some energy and physicality and could probably put up some points on a more offensively minded team than the Rangers.

*slow clap* Post of the Year. Well done.

They're not going to give away Clutterbuck for Hossa's negotiating rights..
-
Obviously there was some great moments in the playoffs, like Game 7 against Anaheim, Game 4 against Columbus, Stuart's hit, Kronwall's hit etc. But I really loved this moment from the regular season: Really showed the camaraderie in the team. Also I loved the Winter Classic. Seeing Babcock and crew with those hats on was awesome, as well as the game itself and Datsyuk's goal. There were a ton of great moments though.. I could go on and on.

edit: nvm, saw your 2nd post. It's nice that we can atleast get something for Hossa if he doesn't sign here.

This worked in NHL09 so it has to work in real life too!!11!!1!!!11!!

I don't understand why Hossa would care about the cap number. So what if he only earns 1 or 2 mil a season when he's approaching his 40's? Most likely he won't be playing by then, and even if he is he's not going to be a 40 goal scorer. In a way it would make me relieved to see him go. Signing him, in addition to making us lose other players, would make for yet another season where we're right up against the cap. If he's not willing to take a discount to stay, let him move on and try his luck somewhere else. -
Not if we sign him 5 years. If we however sign him 10-12 years we could get him for $4M.
