yeah well actually it's Kipper I feel the most sorry for. he's faced almost two full games worth of shots in less than 40 minutes of play. ..aaaand we get another PP! NO MERCY!! edit: and homer gets called for interference. make-up call for sure. I guess the refs do have a bit of mercy.

Lids is so awesome at hitting the net. With many defensemen, you never know if their shot is going to go wide, high, hit a block or what, but not so with Nick. But seriously, let's see some 5-on-5 play now. I feel bad for the Flames.

The Flames scored 0-1 on a bit of a weak call on Zetterberg, Jokinen shot/passed the puck from absolutely no angle and it somehow got in between Conklin's leg/skate and the post. Wings tied it up on the PP, after some nice combinations between the Euro Twins. Datsyuk had a nice backhand in the crossbar and Z jumped on the rebound and scored. Phaneuf ran Cleary into the boards, injuring him (though he has returned) and drawing a 5 min major. The Flames drew a whole bunch of other penalties during those 5 mins leading to the Wings spending several minutes on a 2-man advantage. After I think one crossbar and one post, Sammy finally managed to get one in after a nice little pass by Kopecky. To summarize, Kipprusoff and the iron has kept the score down. Shot count 28-4.

The pessimist in me agrees, Conklin's home streak has to end sooner or later, and the Flames have a 3-game losing streak they'll be looking to end. But as long as we get to see a good game.. the last meeting looked like it was a lot of fun, would be nice to see something like that.

I'm not thinking they should get a 6-mil goalie, but there are some good ones that I'm sure could be gotten for about the same money Franzen wants. If they decide to go with an Ozzie/Howard tandem for next year I hope they leave some wiggle room so they can atleast go out and get a goalie at the deadline if it turns out Ozzie has another year like this and Howard doesn't step up big-time. Larsson or McCollum won't be the solution next season. (Sorry btw, didn't mean to make this into yet another goalie discussion) I didn't consider Huds was a RFA, so yeah he'll probably be cheaper to sign than the Mule. Still, signing them both AND Hossa would most likely put us right up against the cap wouldn't it?

Holland has said he will only sign one (at most) of Hossa and Franzen before the off-season when they find out if the cap goes down or not. After Hudler's great season I don't think he will be much cheaper than Franzen.. it might be a "whoever takes less, stays"-situation between the two of them. Sadly I think we might have to lose Hudler + Hossa or Franzen, in order to afford a solution to the goaltending issue.

At most I'd say. For another team he could be worth 4 mil, but if that's what he wants from the Wings they could find better things (for them) to spend that money on. If they can sign Hossa and bring up Leino for the next season they have enough scoring even if they lose Hudler and Franzen. Spend the Franzen money on a starting goalie they can rely on. With that said, I'd hate to see Franzen go. He's a bit inconsistant, but when he's on he's almost unstoppable.

I see similarities in the Sharks situation this year and what the Wings had last year. Everyone saying they don't have what it takes in the playoffs, that they will just "choke" again etc.. I think the Sharks actually are the front-runner this year. Right now they're facing some of that adversity that is so important to have experienced before the playoffs, which will probably make them stronger than what they would have been if they had just continued to cruise through the regular season without ever losing more than 2 in a row.

Wonder where the Blue Jackets would be without him? He's a monster and I pray to god that the Wings manage to evade him in the playoffs.

I'd bump Montreal for Pittsburgh. They're looking pretty good after the coaching change and could probably make a decent playoff run if they don't fall apart again.

Oh come on. I'm usually pretty positive but the Wings haven't played a good game.. Coyotes outplayed them for the last 5-10 minutes.
