Dallas is on fire. The Rangers though.. their defense is just terrible a lot of the time and Lundy is the only reason they get away with it.

I guess long-term Zetterberg-type contracts (though maybe not 12yrs) would be the only way to go if we want to keep them both? We can't exactly sign Hossa for 6mil cap hit and 3-4 years. And Franzen wants money too. But if we sign them both for 6+ years, maybe we could get Hossa down to around 6 mil and Franzen around 3? I don't really see any reason why we wouldn't want them both to stay here for a long time. -

Worst case scenario Homer is out for the rest of the season, but hopefully back for the playoffs. In that case he won't reach 20, but Cleary might. Nick might very well start putting the pucks in the net on the PP on a more consistant basis, and reach 20. I doubt we'll get 8 players there though.. but 6 or 7 would still be impressive.

If you think about it, it's pretty logical that the Wings are the favorites. 2nd in the West despite playing quite bad defensively for the most part, and having the worst goaltender and 4th line in the league. Imagine what will happen if we just fix one or two of those things come playoff time.

Thank you. I've been saying this, but haven't had the stats to back it up. Ovie, despite all his speed and goal-scoring ability, is not a very complete player and many, many times per game he makes wrong decisions (mostly because he refuses to pass) which results in giveaways or lost opportunites for the Caps. But sometimes it seems like all people see is the amount of goals scored. I'd personally take Datsyuk over either Crosby or Ovie though.

The Pens are way too dependant on Malkin right now. He is having an unbelievable season, but the rest of the team just looks flat. Even Crosby, despite being 2nd in scoring. An injury on Malkin and the Pens don't even reach the playoffs. -

No, no they definitely should not. I'm just waiting on the day when European leagues adapt the North American rink size. As for the season openers over here, yes, they shrink the size down to the NHL-standard. -

He hasn't played up to his salary or up to my expectations this season, but there are many others who I could say the same about. As I said, if we have to trade Val in order to keep Hossa.. by all means, do it. But Flip also has a lot of potential, and he fits into this team imo.

Maybe it was Hossa's excellence that made him look good, but I thought that 2nd line worked really well. Flip got more involved offensively than he's been for much of the season, and he's just a great guy to have between two big, strong goalscorers like Franzen and Hossa.

I thought Flip had one of his best games of the season last night.. But if we have to let him go to keep Hossa I wouldn't be against it.

Flip did his best game in a long time tonight. He's had a weak season, atleast compared to what my expectations were, but when he gets the chance to play on the top 2 lines with good linemates, he shows his qualities.

Yep He also said the guys "were able to pick up Ozzie". He pretty much said what I felt as well, that there weren't many bad defensive breakdowns and if Ozzie had just kept his legs together we would have won 4-2 or more. Hossa would be great to resign, but if it's at the expense of Hudler and Flip (and probably Franzen)? I'm not sure. Depth is more important than any one player. A night like this Hossa seems invaluable though.. it all depends on what he's willing to take.

Judging by what Babs said in the postgame, the first 2 lines are very likely to remain the same. Which is a good thing imo, they worked really great today. The 3rd wasn't bad either, but I'm sure that and the 4th could be juggled a bit. Bring in Leino on the 3rd and put Helm on the 4th instead of Kopy maybe. And Abby instead of Maltby. Would be something.

I LOVED Babcock's post-game comments. He pretty much confirmed the 1st and 2nd line will continue to look like they did today, and he was pretty harsh on Ozzie, in a subtle way.

This game has no business whatsoever being tied. Ozzie has let in 2 must-gets, and 2 should-gets. It's a broken record but you just can't avoid the fact this game. It sucks since we've played better than in quite a while this game. Doesn't help that the refs suck either.
