Heh, missed that. Funny.

Are we sure he sad Yzerman in front and not Has a man in front?

Abdelkader is back to Abdelkading after beasting for one game. Datsyuk oozes quality in everything he does. I'm back to being annoyed he doesn't get enough help on his line.
-
Our individual game looks good. I.e., Howard is fantastic, Datsyuk, Nyquist, Filppula, Kronwall, etc. all look good. But we're having some issues putting it together as a team and creating some real, sustained pressure. Not getting any rythm in our passing game.

How many icings have we committed in the 1st period? Feels like 10.. we're looking pretty good though, hope they don't start sitting on this lead.
-
My sentiments exactly. He's been playing well imo. But I guess he's not really used to playing this many games in a season so for that reason I have no problem with him sitting out a game. Maybe he can get back to his goalscoring ways after getting a breather.

I dislike playing the same team twice in a row. I have no stats but the games always seem to be split 1-1, so now with the Wings winning the first one I have little hope for tonight. Hope to be proven wrong as it would be awesome to beat these guys again.

Hope he still has many milestones to come in Detroit. The steal for his 2nd assist was just classic Datsyuk. How many times has he done that..

I've got a great feeling about it. 5-1 Wings. Brunner x2, Z, Mule and Smith. -
People seriously overvalue high draft picks. How many top 5 or top 10 guys from the last 5 years are stars today? Ask Edmonton. No one in this draft will be able to fill Datsyuk's shoes if he leaves after next year. The chance that Seth Jones will be a superstar d-man for the next 20 years is so small that it doesn't make sense to do the kind of risk-taking it would require to have a shot at him. When Erik Karlsson was drafted, Ottawa fans were furious and though they made an awful pick. You NEVER know. Keep being competetive, keep finding diamonds in the rough in the draft, keep looking for undrafted players to take a chance on.. build from within, stay classy, stay a model organization that players are likely to want to play for.

Don't they say every year it's a deep draft? And even when they don't, I'm sure guys picked late still have become very good players. There are no sure things in the draft unless you're picking top 10. Maybe even top 5 or top 3. Wings won't be picking that low anyway, so it doesn't make sense to abandon this year for a mid-to-late 1st round pick. Playoffs are a crapshoot and no matter what the pessimists on this board say, if the Wings get in and get hot, they could make a run.

I'm not gonna complain as long as we make the playoffs. Strangely enough I think we would match up pretty well against most of the 'top' teams at the moment. Teams like Nashville, St Louis, San Jose, LA.. give us more problems than Vancouver/Minny/Anaheim or even Chicago. -
Unlucky for Eaves, but I'm glad to see Nyquist in. I hope he can get going, kid needs a goal to get some confidence on the NHL level. Seems like ages ago we played. I fully expect the team to be sleeping through the 1st period. Hope I'm wrong. Minny's been very good lately so we can't underestimate them.

Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?

Came here to post this. Comes from Hakan Andersson, via Aftonbladet.se. Said he'll come over, maybe do a practice or two with the team, watch the home games this weekend, but will focus on the WHC so it seems unlikely he'll play for either the Wings or GR this season. Looking forward to seeing what this guy looks like in camp later this year... he needs to put on some more muscle over the summer for sure, but he's got all the tools otherwise. Disappointing playoffs for him, 0 points in a 4-0 sweep, but their team was completely outmatched in every way. He had a good regular season so I hope he can make the Swedish WHC team and have a good tournament. -
He's not exactly a perennial 50 goal scorer. Overpayment for sure. Even if the Ducks want to spend right up to the cap limit they'll have trouble filling out their bottom 9 with much more than scrubs.
-
Well no surprise. It's nice to dream about big players hitting free agency but it rarely happens.

I can see a coach like Tortorella losing the players after a while. So a coaching change makes sense to me. But the Rangers also seem to have real bad scoring depth. Nash has been great for them but I question their decision to become a more top-heavy team. Think they'd have more success building on depth like Boston.
-
That's unfortunate, he was beginning to look like a hockey player. Doesn't make or break our team though.
-
Saw this earlier. Ridiculous decision and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes after the game. I picture Trotz an inch from his face, screaming his lungs out.
-
I'm with you on that and would love to see Feds number retired. Maybe it can happen at a later time. He deserves to get recognition from the organization and fans.

Injured Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

That's beyond rough. When will his luck turn? -
Pavel needs to be up in the rafters. Too special of a player and person not to get that honor. Feds would have been there had he stayed with the team, no doubt. Hope #500 comes next game. He's been a monster this season.
-
Exactly. Datsyuk just scored his first in something like 12 games, Zetterberg has been MIA for a long time, the bottom 6 scores once every 10-15 games.. the entire team has been struggling to score ever since the 8 goals against Vancouver. Brunner imo has been playing some of his best hockey the past 5-10 games. Very solid. Stronger on the puck, winning more puck battles, skating hard, and putting up some assists. He's having a much harder time getting in good scoring positions and getting quality shots lately though. Definitely in part due to Zetterberg being a bad funk. But could also be some fatigue from playing a lot of games this year. Brunner is not a problem, at all. He'll start scoring again sooner or later.

I've given up on trying to make sense of Babcock's lineup decisions this season. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it.This game needs to be a win. Badly. And we need to score more than 2 goals. I'd like to see Brunner get one, as well as Pav, Z and anyone in the bottom 6.
