Pahlsson has some good things about his game, but he's not the player he was a few years ago and is hardly a guy that makes Vancouver a much better team. Us picking up Quincey is probably more of an improvement than them adding Pahlsson.

I wouldn't be upset either, I know Holland won't make a deal if there's not a good one to be made. Hopefully he can find something, but when healthy we're good enough to win it all anyway.
  4. Holland and Stevie Y are like two buddies trading hockey cards.

If only Holland overreacted to a bad 1st period the way you do!

True, it is slump-time of the year. And after such a long winning streak at home a letdown was bound to happen.. kinda like a deflated balloon, it takes some time to get the energy back after the streak ends. Still would like to see more from Franzen, Zetterberg, Filppula, Hudler etc.

I like Mursak's speed but that's about it. I agree our 4th line is a weakness. If it's still the same after the trading deadline I'm not happy.

By far the worst in the league, atleast when Colorado is facing Detroit. Their reactions when Detroit scores are usually hilarous. Hilarious, just like the start of this game.

Okay, I haven't watched the last two games and we lost both. I'm watching tonight. We'll win for sure. Hey Z, hey Mule, hey Huds and Cleary and even you, Lids, there's this guy Pavel who is out and I'm expecting YOU to pick up his slack. Get'r done boys!

    Race For the Art Ross

Yeah I see Malkin taking it. But just because I'd like to see the streak of different winners continue, I hope Stamkos or Giroux can finish strong and steal it.
  12. I'm not sure except for the fact that Downie is a complete idiot.
  13. There is a comical overestimation of the value of a Detroit Red Wings 1st round pick in this thread. It's not like other teams GMs go blind at the sound of someone saying "1st round pick". They know Detroit will finish top 3 in the league and the pick will basically be a 2nd. It has very little value. No one will line up to give us their best player for a pick in the 25-30th range. Holland usually trades away our 1st anyway, and usually only for other, later, picks. Quincey is a good return. Hell, he's an upgrade over Kindl who IS a 1st round pick.

Datsyuk out at least 2 weeks

Can't say I'm completely shocked, it has looked like he hasn't been 100% ever since the All-Star break. Still amazing at times, like against Nashville, but in some games he's looked a bit slow and hasn't always taken faceoffs. Obviously it's gonna be a tough couple of weeks without him, and our winning streak(s) are really gonna be difficult to keep up, but Zetterberg has been our best player lately and might even raise his game even more now, and everyone else will step up too I'm sure. Howard being back will also give us a boost. I wonder, will Tatar get his chance now? I'd really like him or Nyquist in the lineup, get some skill in there.

    Travis Moen

I wouldn't mind us acquiring a good PKer like Moen. We're usually better on the PK in the playoffs, but still we could use a little help. Especially with Eaves out. That's one thing that could help us a lot on the road I believe, better special teams.

    Has Ovechkin Passed His Prime?

I'm sorry? Green yes, but Backstrom, previous to these post-concussion symptoms he's plagued by (like so many other great players) I believe he had barely missed a game in his career. He's also imo the best player on the team. He can pass, he can score, he plays pretty decent defense.. they're definitely missing him as a team, and it's probably atleast one reason Ovie's production is so low this year.

    2/21 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 2

Feels like our schedule is really brutal right now. Dallas, Nashville, San Jose, Chicago, Vancouver, all in a row!? Wow. If we can get past both the Hawks and Nucks undefeated I don't know who can stop this team. ...Columbus probably Would be sweet to take a road win against the recently hot Hawks, not only for the points and the pleasure of beating them, but to quiet some of the noise about us only winnning at home. We need to be able to get things done on the road too, can't rely on getting a 16-win home streak in the playoffs. Go Wings!

    Has Ovechkin Passed His Prime?

I'm not sure if he definitely passed his prime, however this is why I laughed at people who a couple of years ago said "Imagine how good Ovie will be when he hits his prime!" as if he'd just keep on improving and would eventually score 90 goals a season. Players, people, careers, very rarely work that way. And especially not for players like Ovechkin. Ever since entering the league he's been one-dimensional and he has done NOTHING to change that. When he's not scoring he's not much use to a team to be honest. He's not a playmaker and he sure as hell can't play defense. Looking at him now and comparing him to a few years ago you can't see much of a difference honestly, except maybe he's lost a few percent of his explosiveness, speed and ungodly stamina. And other teams have adapted to how he plays. That's all it takes for a guy that doesn't have a lot in the way of 'hockey smarts' to go from being a superstar to being almost mediocre. He's predictable, always has been. It's just that in the past he was unstoppable even though everyone knew what he was going to do. Maybe there's some truth to the steroid rumors, maybe he wasn't happy with Bodreau and isn't happy with Hunter. I'm sure he's hurting with Backstrom not being around to set him up for open nets. Maybe he hasn't been working as hard during the last few offseasons because he's not as motivated, having a long, lucrative contract and being a huge star. But it's really something, the way he's gone off the radar this year. Rarely ever do you see his name on NHL.com, compared to every day 2 seasons ago. Crosby vs. Ovechkin discussions of years past seem ridiculous now, even though Sid's career could be over. Even putting Ovie ahead of Datsyuk would be insanity at this point. I'm sure he can bounce back and do better than he is now, but unless he starts really working on becoming a better all-around player I don't think he'll ever dominate the league again.

    2/19 GDT : Sharks 2 at Red Wings 3

As everyone else I really want to win this game. Wings need to get that monkey of their back. Will be a tough one for sure however. Can MacDonald put together another solid performance? That is the big question imo.. if he does, we've got a good chance as I expect the players to be fired up. 5-3 Detroit.

    Gill to Nashville

The answer to the question "Can Nashville become a more boring team?" has come.. and it's a surprising YES.

Pretty nice pass by Z, pretty nice goal by Pav. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty nice.

    2/17 GDT : Predators 1 at Red Wings 2

I hate to be the one to break this to you.. but the Wings can't win every single game for the rest of time. I don't think it's outrageous to be a little hesitant to say a win is 100% sure when we're facing a very good team, have two of our best players out with injury, and have won 21 straight at home (= due for a loss). I hope for a win every time, and I think the Wings CAN win every game. But I would not be shocked to see the streak end tonight. Prediction.. 3-2 OT win Detroit.
  23. 9 game losing streak has already made it difficult for Chicago to have anything to do with the Central title. And if they're gonna win against anyone, I don't mind it being the Rangers.

Nashville is a tough team to beat and without Z it will be even harder. I hope everyone steps their game up, especially Datsyuk to be honest. Been a while since we saw one of those dominant performances from him.
