Z has been great ever since the first 15-20 games where he struggled.

Cleary... don't get me started. The 10-20 games per season where he's usueful don't outweigh the rest of them when he's like he is now: absolutely worthless.

Let's not call this game over just yet. Not that it's looking good. Personally I think the team has zero confidence playing in front of Conks. And then when he lets in a goal like that 1st one they just sink even deeper knowing that they're in for a rough night, leading to the bad defense on the 2nd goal. Or something.

Holmstrom can't retire until after the Wings have been on 24/7.. Suter would be nice, definitely a must to pick up someone like that if, god forbid, we lose both Stuart and Lids.

You make it sound like we are 4 lines and 3 d-pairs of softness and skill nowadays. We've got grinders that provide energy and wear down the other team. I wouldn't be opposed to, say, move Cleary to find a guy that is more physically punishing and still puts up the occasional points, but overall we've got a pretty good mix of 'soft' (as if a guy like Pavel is soft) and 'tough'. Imo there's too much nostalgia from some people. It's all about the golden years during the 90s. And yes, I'd love it if we could get prime-Shanahan and McCarty back. Today it's a different league though, you don't see things like the Wings-Avs rivalry anymore and more and more teams are moving away from having "enforcers". Everyone talks about Boston and how tough they are and so on, and they have a good team that plays hard, but people should look more at how they play defense and how amazing Tim Thomas is. Those are the keys to their success. Besides, the softest team in the league, Vancouver, almost beat them in the finals and would have beaten them if not for Thomas.

And who do you propose we go after in this deal including Franzen? There aren't a lot of true-snipers with clutch ability available out there. There are very, very few players that can be relied on to score 40+ goals every year in this league. And every team wants those players. We're not getting Stamkos. We're not getting Ovechkin. We're most likely not getting Kessel. Who? Gaborik maybe? Or Iginla? But he's getting old. Perry was mentioned, but last year might as well have been the best season he'll ever have. He's never been close to 40 goals before that. A lot of teams would be like to have Franzen so if we traded him we could get something good, but the truth is it's ******* difficult to find reliable goalscorers. I'd rather see us find some way of adding a 30-35 goal scoring guy without removing Franzen. 2 guys that score 30+ goals is better than 1 guy that might score 50+, imo.

Another funny thing is how people have used the Wings bad luck with injuries the last few years as proof we need an enforcer. Well, what about this year? Why are we so healthy without an enforcer? Everyone should be taking runs constantly at this soft and defenseless team.

I can't believe the s*** Franzen gets on this board. Sure he can look lazy some games but he is having a ******* fantastic year and for the most part he has looked great out there. It's like he gets all the blame whenever the Wings fail to score more goals than the other team. Give the guy a break, he's on pace for 30+ goals and 70+ points. And YES he is a clutch player. Goddammit you people are expecting 50+ goals, most of them being game-winners scored when the game is tied and the Wings most need a goal, from a guy earning 4 million? We're all sad the Wings don't have a Stamkos or a .... I don't know, Kessel? Or whoever else can be relied upon to score a goal in most games, but we don't have a guy like that so just face the facts that we have to rely on depth-scoring with Franzen maybe putting up some more goals than others. Which he's doing.

Took more than 10 minutes for Russia to get their first shot on goal in the game. Sweden just dominating. Makes me a bit nervous that the Russian goalie is playing so well though.. and the skilled Russians can all of a sudden wake up and strike.

I'm still trying to calm down after one of the most exciting games I've ever seen, Sweden-Finland, and that 1st period didn't help a lot. Wow, a lot of action. Wings looking good. Z, Flip and Huds.. wow. Also gotta give props to Loui Eriksson for a sweet goal. I think most of the time they've got someone close by that can jump in.. not sure though.

Yeah everyone knows all-star voting is a joke. Reimer is the #1 goalie in voting isn't he? That's all you need to know. While a part of me would have thought it'd be nice if Howie got some recognition for the year he's having, it's better if he gets every little bit of rest he can get.

Main reason Howard is the MVP, besides his great play, is that we'd be FUBAR if we had to rely on Conklin to get some wins. If we had a competent backup I might have to say Datsyuk is our MVP but we'd have a better chance of winning right now if Datsyuk got injured than if Howard did.

But why is offense only an issue on the road? What they need is to figure out why they're doing so much worse on the road. Are the seats on their flight not comfy enough? Are they jetlagged? Do they forget important items and gear back in Detroit? Hawks were the better team tonight. It kinda sucks though that some awfully weak calls had to go and influence the game so much, especially the penalty shot, but still, if one team deserved to win tonight it was Chicago. You can ask why did they get 5 PPs and we only got 1. And while I think we got some bad penalty calls against us while they missed some on them, the main reason is they outworked us. Every loss means people will start saying we need to trade this guy or acquire that. But when a team only has issues on the road something is up that isn't necessarily concerning the squad.

Nyquist looks pretty good whenever he gets a hold of the puck. I'd like him to play with Z and Fil instead of Hudler.
