Red Wings Won't be Active at Trade Deadline

Our team is much improved over last year's, and the year before that we were in the SCF. It's not like The Wings have completely failed in many playoffs in a row. Even last year they could have won against San Jose if some pucks bounced differently.

2/20 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Wild 1 (SO)

I think he saw Backstrom poke-checking on Pav's move and figured he was ready for a deke so he tried to surprise him with a shot. Not a crazy idea imo. Good win. A bit of a sloppy game at times, the guys didn't seem 100% focused around the net. Can't complain about much else though, they've really started to tighten up the defense lately and Howard has played a couple of solid games in a row now. Keep it up.

Well whether he signs another contract with us or not he'll be doing something other than playing. ..like charting faceoffs.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

You are so damn WRONG about everything you say. Stuff like this: In 06-07 he also played 40 games for Philly. He said himself in the press conference that if he knew that his foot wouldn't get fixed, he would have retired after the 02-03 season, when the problems started. But how was he to know that? How hard can it be to fix a foot.. the last season he was 100%, he won the Art Ross and Hart. "just give it up". LOL.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

you didn't watch the press conference.. also he tried again and again to lower expectations, saying stuff like "please don't be mad at me if I'm no good".

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

He still has world-class talent, which was evident in especially the first game. This is about his foot not holding up, which everyone agreed was a real possibility (or even probability). I don't think anyone said he was gonna walk in and dominate in his first or second game. Watching this press conference is ******* heartbreaking. If you can't understand why this guy has kept trying to come back to the game while watching this.. you're beyond help.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

He's never retired before.. This really brings me down. I wonder if it's a physical issue, that the foot didn't hold up to real action this time either, or if it's simply that he didn't feel he reached those high standards he holds himself to.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

It was the 2nd night of a back-to-back, against one of the best teams in the NHL after not playing a real game for almost a year before yesterday. Of course he's gonna have some tired legs, and yes he did have a much tougher time getting anything done than in his first game. But the entire Avalanche team looked absolutely, positively awful. And neither of Forsberg's minuses was on him, especially not the empty net goal. Give him a couple of games to get up to speed. In the Olympics it took until the 4th game (I think) for him to really start to look like himself. And this is an even higher level of competition. The fact is that he has looked very good so far under the circumstances.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

I think he was really good in the 1st, then looked like he got a bit tired but still made some nice plays and was actually involved in most of the (few) chances the Avs created. A good 1st game for him, considering how long he's been out of the league. Those hands are still magic. Everything just needs to hold up so he can get into the pace of things a bit more. It's doubtful he alone will be able to turn things around for the Avs though, they really look quite bad.

Funny thing is he had nothing to do with those crocs except being buddies with the guys behind them and when they asked if he could help market them in europe he did it as a favor to them.

Washed up? Dude has been dominating everytime he's set his f***ed up feet on the ice in the SEL the last couple of years. Last time he was in the NHL he almost singlehandedly got the Avs into the playoffs and was a big part of them getting to the 2nd round. In the Olympics 2010 he was one of very few bright spots in the game where Sweden was eliminated against Slovakia. Cash grab? He's been playing for FREE for Modo in the SEL. And by FREE, I mean as in getting payed NO MONEY. Not only a little bit of money. NO. MONEY. Now he has signed a ******* 1 million dollar contract. Guess what, I'm sure he'd play for zero dollars if it was allowed. If this was about money he probably would have saved himself about 10 operations on his foot and just signed for a KHL team or something. He is doing this for himself. Because he loves to play hockey. And maybe a little bit to prove to people like you that he ISN'T washed up and that he still has hockey in him.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

It's confirmed to be a $1M deal. So it won't really hurt the Avs even if he gets injured, and it also shows that anyone who thought he was doing this for the money (i.e. idiots) were wrong. 3 years younger than the best defenseman in the league.

Haters gonna hate. This is awesome news, probably the most fun thing that has happened in the NHL this season. Not sure how this will play out. Maybe he'll play 2 games and then get injured. Maybe he'll play 10 games and then decide his foot doesn't hold up. Or maybe he'll play the rest of the season and be his usual dominant self and prove all the doubters wrong. No matter what, I'll be watching every single game he plays, whether it's 3 or 30. Best of luck Peter.

    Shades of Fedorov?

I totally get what you're saying. It's annoying to see Franzen look lazy as hell some games when you know that he has the ability to be so damn dominant. There's probably just something psychological that Franzen shares with Fedorov, that they have a hard time giving 100% (or 110%) if it's not a very important game, such as in the playoffs. But even though I didn't see a lot of games back when Feds was a Wing, I'd definitely say that he was much more useful even on his "lazy nights" as opposed to Franzen who many times this season has been simply..nothing.

    2/2 GDT: Franzen 5 + Red Wings 2 (7) at Senators (5)

Pretty sure that was 4 goals That was also the last game before this one that we saw the truly dominant Franzen. Wish he'd play like this a little more often, he's so unstoppable when he does. Hopefully this is a sign that he's ramping it up for the last part of the season in preparation for the playoffs. Now if only our defense and goaltending can sort themselves out we look mighty fine.

    NHLPA/CBC Player Poll Results

Was just about to post this. Great to see so much respect for Datsyuk. He was 1st or 2nd in several categories, and still he was apparently voted the 7th most underrated player as well. Lids gets a lot of recognition also. Sure the boards in the Joe were voted the worst, but the arena, the ice and most importantly the TEAM gets a lot of cred from the players.

    Skills Competiton

I was missing Datsyuk, Omark and Zuccarello in the shootout competition. Those 3 alone would make for a fun contest.
