2010 Winter Olympics - Sweden vs Germany (Group C)
dat's sick replied to redwings8831's topic in General
The ice looks really bad. Lots of passes bouncing over sticks and stuff. 0-0 after the first. Sweden looked okay. Not liking the chemistry of most d-pairs so far, except Kronner and Lids. Lines look pretty good, Hank and Forsberg were finding eachother nicely, Backstrom and Alfie show glimpses of promise. Sedins had a nice shift or two but Weinhandl has yet to really get into the game. Franzen playing with good energy but not enough ice-time. -

What a move by Z! If Forsberg had scored it would have been a beautiful goal. Why doesn't Hank do more like that wiht the Wings? Maybe because they don't play against Germany that often, but still -

I like what I'm seeing from Zetterberg and Forsberg so far. No really great chances for Sweden but they seem to be getting better with every shift. -

But Finland isn't pa... oh I see what you did there. -
To fool other teams into thinking "oh here comes the s***ty 4th line.." and then Mule scores a hat-trick before they realize what happened.

I really have no idea what to expect from this team. Who is injured? Who is hot and who is cold? How will the lines work? A game against Germany has never been so interesting. -

Not me, that would probably mean he wouldn't score a single goal for the Wings the rest of the season (and most of the next). He can set up Koivu for 10 goals though. -

Fil is gonna tear it up. -
To be honest that's almost more typical Russian thinking. They're the ones who started with the 5-man units and they're doing the same thing in this Olympics. It doesn't have to be a bad thing, looking at those lines all of them except the 4th line look like really good PP lines. Forsberg-Zetterberg-Hornqvist-Lidstrom-Kronwall? How would you change that to make it better for the PP?
-
Think Rafalski. But softer. I was actually pleasantly surprised.. we'll see how it works out but I have a good feeling about these lines.
-
I was hoping the boat-load of unbelievable talent on display in these Olympics would take the focus of Crosby a bit. Not so. If I didn't know any better I would have thought Crosby was playing with a team full of AHLers yesterday, because obviously the other players weren't worth mentioning other than the passing remark like "[player other than Crosby] scores... CROSBY IS ON THE BENCH, WHAT AN ARTIST WITH THE WATERBOTTLE DID YOU SEE THAT OH MY GOD THAT'S AMAZING WHAT WILL HE DO NEXT"

Fedorov was their best player when they won WHC gold in 2008. He's going to be huge for them this tournament as well it looks like. Damn I love that guy.
-
I don't think they're gonna be a "real" first pairing. I'd be shocked if Lidstrom doesn't end up playing top minutes. But you (like soooo many others) are underestimating Enstrom, he's atleast as good as Kronwall in terms of skill. And then you consider that Kronner isn't 100% as well.

I wish this game was at a normal time. Russia is gonna be so much fun to see.

Parise needs to score a goal or two. -
Not sure I'd put too much value in the order of the lines. It's probably a 1a, 1b, 1c situation, with Lidstrom and Kronwall getting a lot of ice-time especially on the PP. Yes I would have liked Mule with Z. One thing I do like about Hornqvist on that line is that he models his game on Holmstroms. The line is built sort of like the ZDH line from the Wings.. only question is if it will work as well.

Loyalty. He's one of those guys that have played a lot in the WHC and all the smaller tournaments, and he's done well in them, so I guess Gustafsson felt he deserved to be on the team. He's pretty clearly the 8th d-man on the roster which is the only reason I'm okay with him being there over guys like Edler or Hjalmarsson. For some reason I giggled like a little girl when I read that. -

If Johansson has even one second of ice-time in these olympics I'll be upset. -

What's the word on Fil's injury btw? -
Fedorov can be used as a shooter on the PP, and I'm guessing Morozov will get some PP time.. Anyone know if Nabokov is the designated starter for Russia?

Holmstrom won't play in the Olympics - Franzen take his spot

I'm guessing not, that time Ohlund played like half the tournament before getting injured so it was a bit different. Which makes you realize how stupid it is that you can't bring in injury replacements during this tournament.
