ok i used to collect hockey cards in my teens in the 1990's (started again a couple months ago and have many rookies) and last night while looking through my collection of cards (I collected them from packs and not from dealers) I found a 1991 Pro Set Dominic Hasek card that is labeled as a rookie on both the back and the front. It has him s a blackhawk. Its 1991 - 1992 season. however on the back of the card it also says that the season before that, 1990 - 1991, he did play five games with that blackhawks in that season. but only five games. so my question is - technically, is my card a legit rookie cause it did say he played five games before that but maybe that wasnt enough to qualify as a legit NHL rookie for the 1990 1991 season. and what are the qualifications a player has to do to be considered a real NHL rookie and be a legit rookie card? I suppose what Im wondering is, is my card really rookie or is it really a second year card of hasek, and they just made a mistake when it says 'rookie' onboth front and back? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. ~ Holmer ~

*Thud* hits floor that's what the beckett says its worth? as in Beckett hockey monthly or something? and yea s my card (well I found out I have two of them) and they're in great condition. I took good care of them. I asked though this question on the official wings forum and one of my friends there said that yea its his rookie but it was only worth $1.19 or something. Let me get the link he posted and show you.... ok he posted this link http://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Hockey/1991-92/Pro_Set and it said its worth $1.19 who's right? whats the right price of it? -
question about a Dominic HasekPro Set rookie card
Holmstrom96Screens replied to Holmstrom96Screens's topic in General
awesome, thanks. Maybe I don't have a patrick roy rookie, but finding out that i have a hasek rookie (actually just found out I have two of these things) means I have got rookies of the next best goalies - Martin Brodeur and Hasek. Again, thanks for all your help! -
question about a Dominic HasekPro Set rookie card
Holmstrom96Screens replied to Holmstrom96Screens's topic in General
ok thanks guys....maybe someone else will have answer for me too. I assumed cause he only played 5 games in the nhl in 1990 - 1991 that he was a rookie for 1991 - 1992. but just needed to ask. I think I'll alsot this question on the official wings site too and see what I can come up with. Again, thanks for your answers ! -

I'd go probably if I wasn't in my second last semester of university....cause halifax is just across the water from us Newfoundlanders. I have to finish my degree though. so no wings game for me...except on tv. -
When do individual game tickets go on sale?
Holmstrom96Screens replied to StevieBoy's topic in General
I'd buy a ticket in a heartbeat if I could...unfortunately I can't go to nhl games....I live too far away from any NHL city. -
we have the good chance to repeat again (since 1997 - 1998 repeat) but, let's face it, it's getting harder to repeat. People who have the chutzpah, as some do, to say the wings have it locked up, are living in a fantasyland. Think about it - admit it - the last team to win more than two cups in a row is the Edmonton Oilers. They did this in the 1980's and their fourth cup was in 1990. After that was the Pens, winning it two consecutive times in 1991 and 1992. But they werent able to get more than that. After that it was our Wings in 1997 and 1998. Since then, NO ONE has repeated back to back stanley cup championships. Know why? More teams, for one thing - expansion. Another thing, players have gotten faster, better since the 80's and the 1990's. It's getting harder to, admit it, even win ONE stanley cup, let alone win more than one and back to back is even harder to get than that. Now we have a remarkable chance to win back to back in spring 2009, but anything can happen between now and then.

humor I post on the Hawks boards and it's pretty funny some of the stuff they say. initially joined out of curiousity as to why they hated us so much. I think I know now. they say things like 'detoilet' and 'wangs' instead of callin us 'wings' I just laugh. It is childish to use those words. and humorous to see them say it.

I sure hope not. and not that I'm aware of *knock on wood* the GM now is Bob Gainey. The coach is Guy Carbonneau. the assistant coach (I think that's what he is) is Kirk Muller.

I remember only too well the day the red wings scored 11 goals vs the habs and Pat Roy was left in for 9 of em. They did that to embarrass him because rejean houle (gm) and Mario Tremblay (coach at the time) were *****. (that btw wasn't the first and only time they treated players like crap, I saw them on tv during a habs game and Tremblay threw a water bottle at Vladimir Malakhov, at that time he was one of the best D men on the team) I remember it so well because I was a big habs fan at that time, of course I liked the wings then but the habs were my fave team at that time) and shortly after it happened I wrote a letter to one of our papers defending Pat Roy and criticizing the sportswriter because he called Roy a crybaby. I just have to roll my eyes. Jiminey H. Cricket, they treat him badly and now want to retire his number? Riiiiight. I mean he deserves to have his number retired. I'm not taking that away. But still..... I love the revenge though. Healthy revenge I call it. Since that time the Habs have never won a stanley cup (even missed the playoffs for a couple of years) well I feel bad for players I like such as Koivu (he deseves a cup imo) but at the same time I think the habs kind of deserved it and Roy's and Malakhov's revenge was sweet too. They both went off, left montreal, joined other team, and won the stanley cup, Roy with the Avs, and Malakhov in 2000 with the Devils. I think, if you have a gifted person on your team, Roy was a great goalie, you take care of them and treat them well to get the best out of them, not treat them badly as Tremblay and Corey had done.

I being someone who has followed Mats since nearly his rookie season in 1990, I knew he would not be a red wing ! Guess there'll be no eatin crow for me since I have been saying all along that he will never ever wear the winged wheel. Been sayin that ever since he first became a FA on July 1.

Hašek looks to return (that didn't take long)
Holmstrom96Screens replied to shadow47's topic in General
Jiminy H. Cricket, how much do that man change his mind or think about changin his mind lol I remember when he retired the first time then came back. i didn't say it but when he retired again this year after winning the cup again I never said it but I was still thinkin' 'bye, see ya again in a couple of months' -
I'm gonna go out on a limb and make that thought unanimous. Because Homer is still the best at what he does, and Franzen and Cleary wont be replacing him for a while. I can see one of them replacing him later years, but as of now? nope. you already mentioned the chemistry between Holmsy and the eurotwins. One word. Magic

Best & Worst Trade Deadline Deals in Wings History
Holmstrom96Screens replied to Wings_Fan_in_L.A's topic in General
it seems to me one of the worst trade jobs the wings ever did was damaging the Production LIne of the 1950's and breaking the heck outta the dynamic that won the wings 4 stanley cups in those years. Because it was after that, the breaking up of Lindsay, Hall, and trading of them - and that marked the beginniing of the long 42 years drought that got the wings nicknamed the dead things. I like to think Ted put a hex on them when he left and rightfully so because they never deserved any cups after the way the owners and management treated players in those days. It just seemed - right that the wings won in 1997 after that generation who treated players badly was gone. Thus ended the drought. -
"Why is Bettmen hated?" that glowing puck from FOX? anyone remember it from the mid 1990's? Seriously, wtf!! he did that as one of the techniques to make the NHl more pleasing to Americans audiences. but seriously if you cant see a black puck on white ice..... I'd also like to add about the 2004 - 2005 lockout, it was the first time since the breakout of the world wide INFLUENZA (flu) PANDEMIC OF 1918 - 1919 that any stanley cup winner was not declared. Just wanted to bring that up. History will remember the Bettman era for that..... and the clutching and grabbing wasnt just complained about by hockey fans either. I distinctly remember Mario Lemieux in the 1990's complaning about that too. So it was definitely noticed and complained about by NHL players as well and not just by fans.

chara - wow. i watched him in the playoffs vs montreal. Great de man, great shadow. Of course he had a little trouble but that was because his job was to shadow one of the best stickhandlers in the NHL - Alexei Kovalev. Chara practically had to turn flips trying to keep up with Kovy. But he did a great job. I'd love to watch chara shadowing other good players who arent such good stickhandlers. I'll bet given Chara's job plus his body size - like 6 foot 7 or something - they probably wont even be able to hardly sniff the puck, let alone actually score.

no. cherry has said he doesnt hate crosby, he criticized croby for the whining and diving (the same as he had doner he said for Lemieux and Gretzky when they used to do the same way back when) but he doesnt hate Crosby.
-
underrated - Jere Lehtinen and someone already snapped on Morrow so I cant add him. The eurotwins Pav and Hank especially when vs crosby. Over rated - crosby is over rated and the eurotwins are underrated especially considering all they have done and between the two of them this year they have won three trophies, Smythe, Selke, and Lady Byng and crosby never won any this year. but to hear the nhl and don cherry who is btw the biggest homer I have ever seen, Crosby is the second coming of jesus and the eurotwins are pffft. yes Crosby has many accomplishment, but for Pete's sake.... btw I do not see how Koivu is overrated. He is a good leader and captain even though he hasnt led his team to the cup yet but he has done well for a leader. Have some of you got short memories or something, criticizing Koivu yet you seem to have not remember what it feels like to have capt Yzerman criticized cause he never led his team to the cup..... just cause he hasnt won cup yet does not mean hes overrated.

Homer uses the Stanley Cup in a family Baptism
Holmstrom96Screens replied to Yzerfan1999's topic in General
whoo ! Congrats! Way to go, Tomas, Robert, and little Alva Felicia!! btw she has such a beautiful name....sounds like rhyming poetry.... what an honor...to be baptized in the stanley cup..... -
yea I remember the Dats/Roberts scrap. How could I forget it lol the little ball of fiery russian just fisted in after him .....I was surprised kinda I didnt exactly know he had it in him tbh! probably cause he dont get mad very often and enforcing isnt his job anyway.... but when he does get mad, watch out lol.
-
Oh yea..yea...I understand now what he means. Got ya. He did mean when he first came the NHL and played for some years and was mediocre. He did say at the stanley cup celebration on july 1 that everything was too easy for him as a younger fellow, he was arrogant and egotisical and thought he had to work but little to get by. btw Daigle...ugh. Dont get me started on him. I remember him well. Too well. He's one of those players I wish I could erase from my memory.
-
well if thats what he meant then my apologies to him.
-
lol whatta ye talkin about...Cleary got better every year since he first joined the wings and he gradually learned to be a more of a two way player....plays in every situation and everyone is proud of him....he did well last year and would have done better except he was out for a while due to a broken jaw..... Now Im not a Newfoundland homer or anything I'm just saying he was a mediocre player not even very good before joining the wings but since he joined he got better and now he can do pretty much anything asked of him and is one of the team's better players. If he avoids injury next year I expect him to have a great season again.
-
agreed. I'll take Franzen over Hossa. Besides, Franzen is another one of those players who can not only score but do other jobs as well. Hes like imo the teams second best screener (cause no ones as good as homer at that) But yea. Franzen over Hossa. mule did greeat last year. he was good.
