I spent a lot of time on the phone, and so I will try to save others time, please post if this isn't clear and/or you have additional questions Yesterday I discovered that 5 out of the 7 possible Red Wings games for the first round had been picked up by Versus, 5 of the 7 possible games in the Ottawa/Pitt series, and multiple games in other series. While I am primarily concerned with the Detroit series, like many of you, I want to watch as much playoff hockey as possible. Knowing that Versus is picking up all these games and is not in the "Family" base package I currently suscribe to, but in two packages above in the "Choice Plus" package which is $25 extra per month, I called DirecTV to find out what the NHL Center Ice schedule would be during the playoffs. DirecTV has not received any more information regarding this schedule, and they are currently contacting Sports In Demand to obtain this information. That is the bad news...now for the good news: I also subscribe to the "Sports Pack" package which gives me access to all the Regional Sports Networks. On DirecTV's website, Versus is not listed as part of this package for $12 per month. You can see this list here: http://directv.com/DTVAPP/packProg/channel...assetId=1100069 However, that is an omission on their website! Versus IS part of this subscription! So if you are not a "Choice Plus" subscriber or higher with DirecTV, an easy way to get Versus is to subscribe to the "Sports Pack". I also have HD channels with DirecTV, and Versus games in HD will appear on another channel in their current HD lineup, which explains why I thought I got lucky watching a Versus broadcast in HD the other night, when I was truly paying for it!

It's really the way to go in my opinion... $29.99 - Base Family Package with locals 9.99 - HD Package (ESPN, ESPN2, HDNet, and other channels carry HD games) $12.00 - Sports Pack Bascially the channels I watch with family programming thrown in They haven't in the past, it is still unknown what games they will carry in the first two rounds.

What does F...T...A mean? West Wing, what are you saying here? Basically, with DirecTV, if you have the "Sports Pack", the HD Package, and Versus is broadcasting in HD, it will show up on channel 95 in HD, in addition to showing in standard definition on 608.

The NHL has to advance the game in the States. I think what can be discerned here, and is very alarming, how little bargaining power the NHL has with the NBC. The NHL is allowing a network which doesn't pay them any cash at all dictate the scheduling of their games. Only the die hard hockey fan in America in the middle of April are going to change the channel to a hockey game during a Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, Americans watching TV at that time are watching Nascar BUSCH series racing. The NHL has so little bargaining power it could not push the NBC to air these games (games in which it's brightest, best, and most compelling star is playing) during primtime on a Saturday night, striking a compromise and keeping the CBC happy. Bettman and everyone running the NHL continue to convey their ineptitude. Did they not have the foresight to see this happening when they agreed with Comcast/Versus and NBC? Do they have a marketing plan to help grow the game and help it succeed during what is without a doubt the best playoff in North American professional sports? The answer to those questions, unfortunately, is no. The CBC should be mad, and for more than one reason. Hopefully execs at CBC start to put pressure on Canadian owners who will then start a revolution, and axe Gary.

If you go to Versus website, the Wings/Flames series is the only series which every game (even the *if necessary) games are showing picked up by a national network. 5 of the 7 games are scheduled to be on Versus. I wonder if Center Ice will be able to carry any of these games on Versus, if not, I would have to upgrade my package two levels with DirecTV to get Versus, grrrrrrr.

Let me just point out there is a HUGE difference between slightly discrediting (your previous posts do not convey the intention of slightly discrediting Brodeur) someone and labeling the same person overrated. I understand the arguments some have made here, I don't necessarily agree, but I do understand. But calling Brodeur overrated is laughable.

I guess I just see the "amount of games" from a different angle. They guy has played infinitely more over the same amount of seasons, and therefore his body has had to deal with much more wear and tear. Yes, he has had more opportunity for success, but that also means he has had more opportunity for failure than Hasek. Dom will never even come close to the amount of games played that Brodeur has under his belt , therefore I don't think their career statistics should be compared.

Well, the Preds haven't exactly been a PR boon for players and actions of good will recently, (TooToo and the Modano debacle), Trotz probably felt like he had to say something.
