I agree with the sentiment that in signing Weiss, we might just be signing another small, 2-way forward with a good defensive game. Which we don't need. We need someone with decent size, decent hands, a hard shot, and drive. TBH, I don't really feel that Weiss possesses any of those besides decent hands and some drive. That about sums up Flip already, though. If it were me, I'd make a run at Horton if it would even be possible to rip him away from Boston, and then call my off-season complete. The fact that we might have to pay more since he will be coming from a new division rival makes the Weiss move kind of dubious for me. Also, his injury history scares me. o.O

I blame Eminem and his Chrysler Commercial...

Taken from Redwingscentral.com, in the article about 9 prospects coming to camp. He just seemed like he was a decent player with alot of potential. Scored over 100 points in his last year and was signed MVP. Has anyone heard of him before or ever seen him play? "Francis Pare, F, 21, 5-10, 185, 69-54-48-102-54, Chicoutimi (QMJHL). Pare racked up 54 goals and 102 points last year and was named MVP of the QMJHL. He has already signed a contract with Grand Rapids for 2008-09."

OMG the sky is TOTALLY falling again (seems like it happens every year right around this time...) I have a feeling alot of people here will be biting their tongues when, once again, everything works out. Holland's not an idiot, he didn't just start his job yesterday. He knows what he's doing and I'd trust him. If you think you could do it better, go apply for his job. I bet half of you guys would be a shoe in for that position... Bottom line, Bert, Eaves, and Williams will ALL add depth to the line-up, while forcing our younger players to step up their games. It boggles my mind every year to see all these fair-weather fans who sit and say Holland's failing or the Red Wings are going under. Have a little faith in your team and your GM. I'm pretty sure they want to win just as much as you want them to...

Hey, at least this way it will put some pressure on our younger forwards to earn their spots... Training camp can't come soon enough!

Alright, so I just read this article, mainly referring to the best players ever from each country. They called Lidstrom the best Swedish player of all time. About halfway through the article, though, they mention a guy named Victor Hedman. Has anybody heard of him? Here's the clip from the article: "Sweden: Nicklas Lidstrom is the current titleholder. You can toss in some votes for Borje Salming, but at The Hockey News we’ve already crowned Lidstrom the best European ever and the arguments that he is the second-best defenseman ever get stronger every year. But there is a competitor rising in the near future. Behemoth defenseman Victor Hedman hasn’t even been drafted yet, but big things are expected. And just to give you a taste of things to come, Steven Stamkos once told me Hedman plays like Lidstrom – except one of them is 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds." Has anyone heard of him? Sounds... interesting.

Alright, so I'm bored as hell right now... I just read through all of the posts in the thread titled, "Lidstrom", and the debate has gone to what people look for more on a team, offense or defense. Also, they're debating who the best player is and why. All of this being said, I thought it might be cool to create a poll asking who YOU would choose if you were to assemble a team. These are all active players, and we'll say choose one from each category: offense, defense, and goalies. Explain your choice!

Lebda yes, Lilja no. Lilja is the only real BIG body we have on defense, the only d-man willing enough to block shots with his body, and he plays well on the PK with Lidstrom. Besides his random blunders on D, he's turned into a pretty good 5th or 6th D-man. I really have no complaints about him right now. Lebda... meh. One minute he makes a decent play, the next he messes up. Lilja stays, deal Lebda!

It's almost hard to utter these words, but... I've been kind of impressed with Sammy lately. He's starting to play alot better. Babcock loves him because he shoots the puck and he's responsible defensively. Babcock says "shoot", Sammy says "how much"... I hope to Jesus we can retain Hossa after this season's up. He's turning out to be awweeeeessssoooommmmeeee. (Like I knew he would all along.)

Great thread! Way to keep it positive, Opie! Also on a positive note, Downey hasn't injured anybody else on our team! Wewt! In all seriosity(<---came up with that, myself), I agree with The Secret in that, although the Wings aren't playing up to their potential, there's no nervousness or hesitation. They're still finding a way to win games. I'm glad they're getting these bumps out of the way this early in the year, though. Also, it speaks praises to the team for being able to push through hard-fought games, come back from multiple-goal deficits, and come up big in shootouts, both the players (Datsyuk's dangle or Hossa's slapshot to upper shelf) and our goaltending (Conks continues to impress). The team's playing like s*** and still coming up with wins... that's huge. Can't wait to see them in December/January when team starts taking on it's mid-end season form. I'm excited that we have Hossa for the whole season. I'm excited he gets to play with the same team for a full season... he's going to do great things. I still have high hopes the Wings will try hard to retain him at the end of the season, and I'll bet he wants to stay as long as he can. He's really coming together with both Dats and Homer. He's already starting to get hot and we've just begun. Can you imagine him towards the end of the season/playoffs? Oh, jeez... my pants just shrank a bit.

Be sure to take a pair of scissors or some other sharp object for emergencies, just in case you need to gouge your eyes out or cut your ears off. PORNO!! Woo hoo!!

Lids does seem like something's been up... he just hasn't been playing the same since he came back from that puck-to-the-eye injury...

I'll say another Wings win, 5-2. No more close games. D will tighten up. Zetterberg (2g), Hossa, Samuelsson, Cleary gets the empty net. The only reason we'll win is because VladiBELIEVE16 wore her RED game-day thong...

I think it looks awesome... I know alot of you are frowning on it for trying to look retro but keeping newer elements on it as well... Personally, I love the Red Wings logo on the shoulders and the lace-up neck. I guess if you were really anal about keeping all of the elements from the 1926 jerseys intact, you wouldn't like this one, but I think it's great... A perfect mix of new and old. Old school to reflect the Original 6, but still some newer elements. Perfect! I'll be sporting a Lids, Dats, or Zata one soon!

Heh, when I first came in here, I thought I was reading my own post... You stole my picture, Bida! That pic was taken at the first preseason game and first time he played in the Winged Wheel!

QFT. Out of ALL of our defense, I've seen the most blunders out of Kronwall and Lidstrom. I mean, I know it's been a day since our last game was on, but why are we so hasty in selecting our next whipping boy? And what, Sammy played 2 decent games in a row and no one's talking s*** now? Realize that a couple games do not reflect the rest of the season. This thread will be gone soon and you'll all be back to talking s*** about Samuelsson. Rafalski is one of our BEST puck-moving defensemen and is off to a great start.
-
You mean it was like a Kronwallian hit? Haha does anyone else remember that...?
-
While it's true that every game we've played so far has been close, I attribute that mostly with our defensive breakdowns. Our goaltending has been pretty solid, and the goals we've allowed have been because of defensive breakdowns and bad decisions. Also, I don't think our scoring is the problem... our offense has been stringing together some good plays and are finally looking like they're gaining their form back. There's nobody to blame individually, it's our entire defensive core AND our forwards coming back to help out. Last night would/COULD have been a 4-1 game had Kronwall not taken some bad penalties and Lidstrom wouldn't have given up a turnover or two.
-
I saw this as well, but I'm pretty sure someone in the stands was antagonizing him after the scuffle in front of our net, so as he was entering the penalty box he gave them all a little "re-adjustment" and a smile.

I think Conklin would make a fine starter as well... He's coming up with big save after big save. Last night I saw a couple from him that I thought would definately go in, but nope. He stuffed 'em. Whether he's destined to stay a reliable back-up or get his call to be a first-string, I don't really care. I'm just glad we've got him! Two dependable goalies that can come up big. It's all we really need... I hope he gets to play a good amount of games this year. He's earning every one with his play. Way to go "Conks"! Way to show the city of Detroit you've got skiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllllllllllllllllzzzzz.

When's Cleary gonna have his shot on the second line? I was excited when I heard he might be rounding out that line. Oh well... I guess I'll be the first to admit that, although at times I'm not his biggest fan, I hope Sammy does well... I'm actually kind of proud of him. He's been playing alot better and has been chipping in offensively. No complaints here. (Besides the fact that Helm should be playing right now!)
