You really like to pick selective points to dodge the reality of it all don't you. Hossa wanted to win a cup nothing more. He didn't join the team because he wanted to be a Detroit Red Wing. If Hossa signed that massive contract with Pits they would have lost even more depth. On paper going into last year Pits was looking to be fighting for the 8th seed. They surprised alot of people but thats why Hossa didn't sign there. 7 mill a year is not a discount, there are not many people making more than 7 mill in this league. Zetterberg is a better player than Hossa and he signed for under 6 mill thats a discount.

The only players that have signed for less than they could get on the open market is Zetterberg, Franzen, and maybe Osgood. Datsyuk didn't take a diccount when he signed even though im sure he would if he was signing today. Those are all players that have been been drafted by us and in our system for years. Leaders of our team trying to push a standard in Detroit. This is all new you act like players been doing this for years, this phase just started in Detroit. Rafalskis 6 mill isn't cheap, Kronwalls 3.5 or whatever isnt exactly a discount, Filps didn't sign his contract at a discoun, and either has anyone else.

Dude there was no way in hell we could have afford to keep Hossa. If we had the cap space to offer him the same deal as Chi i guarantee you he would have stayed with the Wings. Theres no way Hossa was going to sign for 2.5 mill that we could offer. Get over it already and quit bitchen about Hossa, Hossa didn't have the option to play for the Red Wings.

I wouldn't mind Sykora. We desperately need a top 6 player and i think he could be a good guy for that role. As long as he stays healthy i think he will score anywhere from 25-30 goals in a Wings uniform. I really can't think of a better candidate right now for the job. We need a top 6 guy and there aren't many left that could fill that role.

If you were trying to use my logic you are way off. AHL develops your skills and starts to adjust you for the NHL. NHL is a whole different ball game, only the NHL can adjust you to the NHL. It takes a full season to get on pace. I'm taking a shot and guessing the Wings are looking more towards the 10-11 season than they are the 09-10 season. I'm speculating Lidstrom will sign for one more year after this season at a highly reduced rate, Homer and Malps will be off the books. Were probably going to make some changes and make a hard run at the cup while our core is still in there prime, also being Lidstroms last season. Basically in the salary cap world and the position the Wings are in. Which is with a core locked up that eats a large portion of the salary cap. Windows of opportunity when your team is at there best potential are far and few in between. What im saying is, we have a couple soft years developing rookies while there on low priced contracts. By the end of there contracts they should be at there best. Thats the year you have your best team. After that chances are alot of players will have to depart for salary cap reasons. Then we go back into rebuilding. The thing is our rebuilding years are under the radar because we have such a good core and still are competitive. 10-11 is our next prime year. They will want Abs, Leino, Helm with a full season of NHL experience under there belt bottom line. Babcock also mentioned in a press conference Abs will be playing with the Wings this season, he may start off the first quarter in Grand Rapids but i doubt it.

Abs will play here and he will play on the third line. They want this guy to be nhl adjusted for the 10-11 season.

Anybody can do that with 30 years worth of top 5 picks.. This guy completely put this team in ruins. This team has so many players signed for ridicules amounts of money. Next year they are completely screwed.

I would take a chance on him if it came down to it. I think the atmosphere in Detroit could change his attitude. He is a great player when he shows up no doubt and his style would fit in with the Wings.

Kotaliks last terms were 2.5 million his numbers havent increased. I think its safe to say we could sign him for that again. I'm not exactly sure at this point how much room we have to offer but im pretty sure thats in our ball park.

As much as Hudlers a great regular season guy. Who cares about regular season in Detroit now days. Were going to make the playoffs with the core we have regardless if we sign anybody. Anyone we might sign from here on out needs to be playoff oriented. Kotalik is a big strong guy and isnt going to be afraid to go in the corners and get bumped around. I had much respect for Hudler up until the playoff run, i don't care how much that hit hurt your getting paid millions and he stepped down. He looked like he was scared ever sense he got rocked. He was virtually useless after that and wouldn't hold on to the puck longer than he had to. Kotaliks the guy i think. Could you imagine two big strong guys like him and Franzen running around the O zone looking to wind up from a feed from Flip? Would be a 70 goal line i assume. Like i said i have only watched Kotalik for about 6-7 games last season. It really takes about 25+ games on the season to really get a feel for a player. Although from my judgment from what ive watched it looks hes the guy we would want. If anyone has watched him more than me last season i would appreciate any knowledge you could share with me about him.

Even though i agree with you i still find it funny how some people are so hard on for stats. I bet you if Flip had 4-5 less points you would be saying he sucked right now regardless if he played just as well as he did. Anyways. Only reason i even give you a hard time because i fought for Filppula all summer long trying to explain to people on the board hes a great player. Guess what? People only look at the stat sheet around here and it gets on my nerves.
