Trading Filppula wil not do it.... there is 3 million cap number difference between Flip and Rafalski. I had to dump a LOT of salary to get under the cap and keep Z and Hossa happy. Actually with the numbers posted Hossa's salary can go as high as 8.95 mil..... and still be under 59 million.
-
I corrected the cap numbers..... which stay the same throughout the period of the contract regardless of the salary. This is just one scenario for the Wings to be able to sign Hossa, Franzen AND Z. The point is the Wings MUST dump salary in order to do so.
-
I stand corrected the cap number does not change even though the salary is dropped I will have to correct the numbers... thanks.
-
All the salaries listed are averages.... the averages changed because 2008 salary is dropped.....check it yourself. If Franzen signs for $4 million then that gives Z and Hossa an extra 500K which is also reasonable. No trade clauses can be waived. Players can be bought-out. Flip got 2 million this year. He gets 2.5, 3.5, 3.5 3.5 the next 4 years which averages to (13 million/4=3.25 mil) From what I understand it is the average of the remaining salary on the contract.

Cleary has to be out for 10 games /24 days for LTIR to call anyone up. This is the same crap all over again. I wish Holland would clear some cap space already because Leino could be getting some valuable playing time. Cleary had a slow start anyway so they may as well keep him out 10 games..... ie... put him on LTIR and bring up Leino already. I would like to see how Leino does on faceoffs and on the PK..... replace Draper or Maltby in the long run with extra scoring punch.

Lecavalier and St. Louis will now start scoring now that big mouth is gone. Thank goodness.... my fantasy team was taking a beating.....LOL.

Buttman needs to go.

I think it was last year that Ilitch allowed the 6 or 7 players and coaches to use Red Bird II for the All Star Game..... he did so because there were so many going. This year it may be a little different for several reasons. Ilitch is not obligated to do so. Players are responsible for their own flight trip to the All Star game. So unless they have their own private jet .... it's commercial. I remember Ken Daniels mentioning that a player from another team who was also in Detroit wanted to hitch a ride with them ..... and they said sorry..... he went commercial according to Daniels. Customs agents don't give a hoot whether you make 10K or 100M...... especially when you are traveling by yourself and not on a private jet with a team. So you stand in line like the rest of us peons. Anyway whether you stand in line or not is not the issue. It is still 5 hours to Montreal, an hour to and from the airport .... you still waste a whole day before the All Star game and then again afterwards. It is probably more of an issue to me because I live in Hawaii and I know when I travel it is not the most pleasant thing even though I travel first class. I would still rather have the whole week off to do whatever I want. The younger players probably see it as being very exciting..... after you have done it a few times you probably could really care less. I guess you have to be a little older to understand this.... because I know when I was much younger you figure it would be such a big thrill...... when you get older, wiser and have done a few things, it's like "been there, done that." But even the older players are still in their 30's so to me that is still quite young.....LOL. ... so you see.... I am a fuddy-duddy.

Not only does he cluck but he sticks his tongue in and out at the same time..... did you see the clip at the end of Red Wings Live????? What is that all about?..... maybe I really don't want to know..... LMAO!
-
If enough Wings are on the team again as in previous years then Red Bird II may be available.....which, of course, would make it a little less of a pain.
-
No one knows what went on behind the scenes except for those involved. So maybe there is more to it than just the 16 games that came into the decision..... there usually is anyway. Melrose's personality and coaching style may have clashed with some of the more popular players..... and that wouldn't surprise me one bit. I wondered what was "wrong" with St. Louis and Vincent. The interview with Martin St. Louis I think said it all......

It is not playing in the game that may get players tired. It is the TRAVEL to and from the game and the events the day before, etc. I don't know how many times you travel lately but for me a whole day gets wasted when you need to catch a commercial flight when you could spend the day doing something else.....like rest and relaxation. Then again, maybe some people consider getting on a plane and going through customs relaxing. The game is in Montreal. Maybe I am just an old fuddy-duddy.

Who cares.... Let's Go Red Wings!
-
Are there rumors that Melrose wants the defensive coach position on the Wings??? Yeh.... fat chance!
-
Couldn't have happened to nicer guy! LOL He was so anti-Wing for years and was kissin' *ss in an interview on Wings pregame.

Last year I voted all the Wings 25 times each. This year I think I will vote for the non-Wings. Game is boring and no big deal. I would rather the Wings have the time off and be able to rest... especially Lidstrom, Z and Pavel. After the Stanley Cup run and watching them play so far this year I think they all will need the time off. Let the Canadians vote their players in ....... like I said NO BIG DEAL! Let them get tired and wasted.
-
ONE WORD.......McCrimmon. Not a good hire. But to be fair .........it would most difficult for any coach to come in and tell a cup winning defense core what to do.
-
My vote is for Homer..... he would have me in stitches the whole time! He is just so funny.....LOL.

$7.45 MIL for 10 years. Thank goodness for LTIR, though. Z is more injury prone than Datsyuk or Hossa. I love Z as a player but if I had to choose between Z and Hossa it would be Hossa.... and only because Z is more prone to injury. Hossa had 6 straight years of playing at least 80 games before playing only 72 games last year. If you look at patterns of injury prone players some of them have a pattern of playing less games every other year...... that is Z's pattern so far.... can not have two full years back-to-back. I have noticed that checking out players for Fantasy teams. And there are those who are injured all the time and you have the occassional injuries. What worries me is the fact that one of Z's injuries involved the lumbar spine which is one injury that is most likely to reoccur. So if I was a betting person I would not bet on Z. Datsyuk has had 4 straight years of playing at least 75 games.

In the NHL there were: 497 fights in 2006-2007 664 fights in 2007-2008 And on pace for 845 projected fights for 2008-2009. Fans love it and it sells the game I guess. Always seems to make the highlights anyway.

These posts are hilarious!...... Love it! LMAO.

Nabokov is day-to-day. Nabokov Injury
-
Even if Nabokov is out 6 weeks the Sharks will still make the playoffs..... not only that but I think it actually helps a goalie to have some time off in the beginning of the season......4 weeks is not bad..... that makes the season shorter for him and he won't be tired come May. Take a look at what Franzen did with about 4 weeks off in the beginning of last year..... he was just warming up in Jan and Feb and then went on a tear.
