oops Nashville owns goal differential.... LOL I am getting dizzy
-
Phoenix owns the tiebreaker over Nashville. They split season series and Phoenix owns goal differential. 99 -38 99 - 38
-
So it looks like if Detroit wins tomorrow they will play Nashville and if Detroit loses tomorrow they will play Phoenix. Detroit won't beat either team.
-
Looks like a dislocated shoulder or even possibly a rotator cuff tear for Howie! Wings are done.

In the earlier years Ken Daniels was very serious and stuffy. Working with Mickey changed his career. Ken Daniels became less serious, embraced the humor and became a better telecaster. I like Murph but I will not like the day when he replaces Mickey Redmond... let us all hope that does not happen anytime soon. Thanks for all the great memories and stories Mickey!!!

NHL network is reporting Modano has a severed flexor tendon in the wrist. They say he is out indefinitely. Complete recovery time can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months... many variables.
-
Modano's contract bonuses: 150K for 40 games played 100K for 55 games played 125K for Round 1 playoff win 125K for Round 2 playoff win So if he comes back in time for the playoffs he could still get 250K in bonuses, which probably will be deferred to next year's cap the way the cap is going this year. The Hudler-Abby-Cleary line will be a good one..... let's hope.

I can't believe no one posted a thread about that deliberate elbow to Salei's face that rearranged his nose. If it was Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall or Stuart who received that blow fans would have been all over it. Hits to the head are suspendible offenses.
-
I really like Eaves. I think he will score at least 15 goals this year if he plays full time.... which he should. He is an excellent shot blocker and penalty killer. He did well last year even though he wasn't in the lineup right away.
-
Yeh ....in 2008-2009 Modano had some real good wheels and a great shot..... that great shot got him a fantastic 15 goals and those great wheels made him a fantastic two-way player..... he was MINUS 13 !!!!! Give me a break!!! Any player on the Wings who is minus 13 does not get any kudos from the fans... that is for damn sure. His point production has been decreasing steadily every year the last three years (from 57 to 46 to 30) while Dallas has been sinking in the standings. And consequently his ice time has also been decreasing steadily over the last three years .... from 19:14 to 14:18. I guess it was the coaches fault for not playing him more. LOL. And now that he is 40 years old do people honestly think he will get better. Give me a break! Quit living in the past!
-
And the Williams signing last year was also a brilliant move I suppose. Obviously, not all the moves Holland makes turn out for the best. I repeat.... this an "emotional sentimental" signing not a logical one to win a championship. I also am inclined to believe that because Wings preseason ticket sales is probably way down they see the signing of Modano as a boost for ticket sales. In the NHL today you are not going to win championships with old re-threads. It is the young speedy teams that are dominating. If Dallas felt Modano could get them back into the playoffs they would have kept him. Obviously they thought differently. I wonder how many Modano relatives and friends are on this forum???? They wouldn't make any intelligent posts.... they just attack.
-
Modano had ONE Stanley Cup ring TWELVE years ago this year! I wouldn't exactly call that winning over and over again like some of the Wings players or Colorado players or New Jersey players. LOL If he is STILL so good why has Dallas sunk the last two years and why have they let him go???? Some players just have to know when to hang it up!!! Kind of reminds me of Schneider who won a cup his first year in the NHL as a rookie and was never able to repeat again.... even with the Wings. He was useless.
-
I would rather have a player who knows how to win over and over rather than someone who just puts up points.
-
Dallas didn't even make the playoffs the last two years.... finished 12 out of 15 teams..... just pathetic!!! Some players are good and born winners..... and some players are just good, but don't know how to keep winning!!
-
Wings aren't going to win a cup with Modano because they will not be able to compete with the younger faster legs of the other teams. Wings may score a few extra goals on the PP and do OK in the regular season but they will give up a ton on the PK. Eaves/Miller ice time will be cut to a substitute level and Modano doesn't kill penalties. Eaves is better off playing for someone else. This will be like when the Wings tried to win with Brendan Shanahan in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006. Shanny scored a lot of goals and got the points but they did NOT make it to the conference finals...... we will see a repeat of that again. Shanny was slow in the playoffs those years. Modano last year looked awful for the Stars, IMHO. Wings will not win a championship with Modano. Dalllas couldn't go anywhere with him in the past 5 years or so, so what makes anyone think he will do any better with Detroit???? Not only that but if he signs for $1.5 mil you can kiss any significant cap space goodbye. Wings will be stuck with Meech as the 6th defencemen (or Kindl) or they will have only about 900K for a the defencemen which will get them someone not much better than Meech with just about zero cap space. Defence and goaltending win championships..... not 40 year old forwards whose career is declining and is no longer a force in the playoffs. Wings should be looking for a quality defenceman because of our other aging stars..... Lidstrom and Rafalski... whose ice time will probably decline. People keep thinking about past performance and think that is what they will get from Modano next year..... wishful thinking..... everyone thought the same thing about Williams and Bertuzzi. This game is for YOUNG FAST skaters... not for soon to be retiree forwards. This is an "emotional sentimental" signing.... not a logical one. And you thought Shanny butted heads with Babcock...... just wait until Babcock thinks Modano is slacking.... bad news. On the other hand we can have a retiree line ...... Homer-Modano-Bertuzzi...... LOL.

This is a copy of a post I made a while back: # This is Boston's roster as it stands right now. They have yet to sign Wheeler.... so add about $3 mil. Patrice Bergeron — $4,750,000 Milan Lucic — $4,083,333 Marc Savard — $4,007,143 Michael Ryder — $4,000,000 David Krejci — $3,750,000 Marco Sturm — $3,500,000 Zach Hamill ($500,000) $1,316,667 Brad Marchand ($165,000) $821,667 Shawn Thornton — $812,500 Trent Whitfield — $550,000 DEFENSEMEN Zdeno Chara — $7,500,000 Dennis Wideman — $3,937,500 Dennis Seidenberg — $3,250,000 Andrew Ference — $2,250,000 Matt Hunwick — $1,450,000 Jeff Penner ($1,000,000) $1,208,333 GOALTENDERS Tim Thomas — $5,000,000 Tuukka Rask — $1,250,000 BUYOUTS Peter Schaefer — $766,667 Patrick Eaves — $-41,667 LOST VIA REENTRY WAIVERS NONE CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS ROSTER SIZE 18 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $54,162,143 BONUSES $1,665,000 CAP SPACE $4,302,857 Listed on the roster now are 10 forwards (without Wheeler) and 6 defensemen. Someone said they would sign Hall or Seguin at about $3.75 mil. Obviously doesn't leave a lot of room for Boychuk. If they were going to try to sign him they prolly can give him only around $1 mil or less. Wings could give him 1.3 - 1.6 mil. He has played with Chara and Wideman. What is interesting is that his +10 was second on team behind Chara. Wings could always keep Meech if they don't think Kindl will pan out. # In Topic: 6th Defenseman 05 June 2010 - 08:30 PM The Wings should go after Johnny Boychuk from Boston, 26 yo, big and responsible defensively and a big hitter..... he will become an excellent defenceman. A Boston fan's assessment of Boychuk: "He has a BOMB of a shot. It's hard and some what accurate. That is his most valuable skill. He's not really a PP QB, he's a defenseman with a cannon and he does remind me a lot of Souray. Not a great skater, not a great passer, physical, and a huge cannon shot. He was named the top AHL defenseman of the year. He has good positioning but he needs to play with a really good defenseman or he's going to be exposed. He can't carry a pairing yet. But he hasn't left Chara or Wideman out to dry. IMO, he's a future #4 defenseman that can play on a team's top PP unit, blasting shots from the point. I don't think he'll ever be a good PMD, but he should be a good physical #4."

Bertuzzi offered deal And some indication the deal gives the Wings a bit of a discount from last year's cap number due to the second year.
-
Bertuzzi had a stretch of 8 games in which he did well. That's it! IMHO, that is not enough. You could make the argument for about 7 other forwards who had hot stretches and helped the team. You could make a better argument for HOWIE! If it wasn't for Howie the Wings would no doubt not have made the playoffs. Maybe without Bertuzzi the Wings play the Hawks in the first round, avoid the long travel, oust the Hawks and move on. You could do these would've, could've, should've's all day long. The fact is that Bertuzzi is getting older and slower. Draper was given a contract when we thought he was worth it.... and now we wish he never got that last contract. You don't give an old fart with history of health problems a two year deal at his age. Plus the Wings will have to deal with his legal distractions that have been reinstated click here. This is something the Wings don't need.
-
Too bad he is another playmaker and not really the high percentage shooter we need. Someone has to put the pucks on net for Pete's sake.

When you start talking about the Wings chances of winning the cup, there is one very important point you have to consider. First, let's take a look at the 11 Stanley Cups that the Wings DID win. With those 11 cups the Wings were NEVER in the bottom half of the seeds of the playoff teams. In the seven cup victories before 1996 the Wings were FIRST seed every time. In 1996-1997 the Wings were THIRD seed. In 1997-1998 the Wings were THIRD seed. In 2001-2002 the Wings were FIRST seed. In 2007-2008 the Wings were FIRST seed. Now, because the Wings are in the Western Conference and the West Coast teams are getting better, it is more important than ever that the Wings finish in the top three seeds (maybe four). At the end of the Wings run this year several players did indeed say that fatigue was an issue. When you are in the bottom four seeds, obviously, travel is an issue when you have to fly to the West coast through three time zones for the first 2 games of the opening two series. That means there is a possibility for 3 trips to the west coast in each series or 6 trips to the west coast in the first 2 series if they go 7 games.... just unreal. I really don't know how a team can do that in a grueling series and still survive. NO TEAM travels further unless it is a west coast team coming to a combination of Detroit, Columbus &/or Nashville to start their first two series and that was unlikely in the past but may change if Columbus improves. Babcock may try to use his psychobabble to convince his players that it is no big deal..... but the human body says differently. The effects of travel and the recovery time of travel on the human body is a PROVEN medical fact. And this is the reason why I always stress young fresh speedy legs that never quit. So if the Wings stay in the Western Conference and want to win the cup they simply have to finish in the top half of the seeds, since we are unlikely to see a powerhouse dominating team that simply will skate over everyone else. In view of this the Wings were doomed last year when they got off to the very poor start in the first 10 games.... they really never recovered as the injuries mounted. The travel was the main reason why I was really hoping the Wings would face the Blackhawks in the first round. The Wings had a good chance to face the Blackhawks in the first round but they decided they wanted the highest seed possible. The Blachhawks were vulnerable in the first round and Nashville almost pulled it off if it wasn't for the major flub in game 5 (which they should have won), of allowing a short-handed goal when they could have closed the game out on a power play. That was the turning point for the Hawks. So, in summarizing, if the Wings want a chance at the cup it will depend on whether the Hawks can keep their team mostly together, if the Wings can win the central division, and if the Wings get off to a very good start next season, IMHO.

Homer does not wish to retire..... he has already said as much. Lilja also wants to stay. He is the best shot blocker on the team. Detroit's PK improved the last half of the season because players like Miller, Eaves and Helm blocked a lot of shots. If Lidstrom returns the Swedish contingent will remain intact. Again the salary cap will be the issue and the players who want to come back will have to take a home team discount. Don't expect a lot of other teams to have a lot of salary cap space either. So you won't be seeing salaries rise. Chicago and San Jose will be having problems trying to resign all their players.... so the market will be flooded with available players which tends to lower the overall salaries.
-
My projected roster if salary cap remains the same. 1st line Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 * Tomas Holmstrom $1,750,000 2nd line Todd Bertuzzi $1,400,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Jiri Hudler $2,875,000 3rd line Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 * Darren Helm $1,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 4th line * Drew Miller $700,000 * Justin Abdelkader $950,000 * Patrick Eaves $800,000 Reserves Kris Draper $1,583,333 Mattias Ritola $500,000 Jakub Kindl $883,333 Defense Brian Rafalski $6,000,000 * Nicklas Lidstrom $4,500,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 * Andreas Lilja $1,300,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 total ~ 56.6 Million

Are you paying for NHL Center Ice or for online services? Obviously, there are other ways of watching the games and I am sure people who choose that method have plenty to say. But, IMHO, one of the ways to force the NHL to improve the integrity of the game is simply by fans refusing to support the NHL until improvements are made to the game. So while some people may choose to discontinue the NHL Center Ice because of terrible refereeing others may do so because of poor team performance or other reasons. If you feel compelled, please state your reason.
