Stats are updated through games of Sunday, March 7, 2010. It looks like it is becoming a two-man race between Jimmy Howard and Matt Duchene. First star goes to Jimmy Howard who added three wins this week, but his GAA went up a bit (.09)this week and his save percentage went down a bit (.003). Second star goes to Matt Duchene who added 3 points this week (1 goal & 1 assist was on the PP) and brought his rating on the plus side for the first time in a long time. Third star goes to Niclas Bergfors who is finding some benefit playing with his new team. He added three goals. Tavares again was a no-show this week, managing only one assist and his plus/minus declining again down to -19. Myers added one point this week and his ice time is increasing even more. Rask was in goal for one game and his GAA average also went up a bit (.07)

Stats have been updated through games of Sunday, Feb. 14th....Olympic break. Over the past two weeks: Tuukka Rask performed the best getting points in every game he played, winning 4, 2 OTL's and 1 shutout, while lowering his GAA & raising his SV%. He was my FIRST star over that time. Duchene was SECOND star getting 3 goals & 3 assists with his ice time increasing and going PLUS 7 over that time. Two of his goals on the PP. He is really helping keep Colorado up in the standings. Overall, I would say he is leading the pack. Howard gets THIRD star while keeping the Wings afloat over the past two weeks and being steady in goal. Bergfors gets honorable mention as switching teams to Atlanta will help pad his stats. He had 3 goals and 1 assist over the past two weeks. Myers had only 1 goal and went MINUS 3 over the past two weeks. Tavares gets the goat award for the past two weeks as he had only 1 assist and went MINUS 8 over that time. He seems to be slipping as the season moves on. The last 6 weeks will filter out those who can't handle the longer season.
  8. FROM MLIVE: Wings Have Some Trade Options Wings need to have some cap space in case there are injuries down the stretch in the heat of the race.... especially if it is a goalie. And it seems like there are always injuries down the stretch.

    Maltby's season over?

DON'T DISH MALTBY FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!! Maltby is taking one for team!!!! AND he provided the Wings will very very very valuable and indispensable service for a long time!
  10. Icesurfer

    Maltby's season over?

May's + Lebda's salary = 1.15 mil ..... which is JUST above the EXACT number needed to clear for Lilja to come back.
  11. Icesurfer

    Maltby's season over?

If Maltby decides on the surgery he could be back by May... if the Wing are still in the playoffs. Maltby on LTIR for the rest of the year gives the Wings cap relief not cap space. A player can take Maltby's place but his salary has to be 883,000 or less. Lilja's salary is 1.25 mil. I guess they can "designate" Lebda as the replacement for Maltby which would then make the Wings cap compliant once Lilja comes back but that gives the Wings ZERO cap space in case of other injuries... especially if it a short term injury to a goalie.... Wings then would have to waive someone. Wings will have only 12 forwards for the month of March. It looks like Meech will be playing forward position..... because you know there will be injuries!!!!! This is not good.

Could Williams be the one traded by Friday?

Well.. if a trade did not happen by now it means that Holland was not able to trade the player he wants to dump... i.e. no takers. He still has, I think, until Sunday or until he actually activates Lilja to waive someone else. I am SURE there would have been takers for Lebda.... he is a reasonably priced defensemen who has playoff experience and everyone looks for D-men at this time of year. My guess is that there were no takers for Williams. So you still can expect Williams to be waived as soon as Lilja is activated... probably after the Ottawa game.

How does Brad McCrimmon STILL have a job?

McCrimmon does whatever Babcock tells him. Wings need a defensive coach who is more challenging and takes the bull by the horns... and has better ideas.
  14. Sending my prayers.... terrible loss.

Updated through games of Sunday, Jan. 31st. Rask, Tavares and Bergfors all had a bad week. I would say Duchene had the best week again, Howard was second best this week and Myers ranked third this week.... IMHO...LOL

With Homer returning Sunday, who's the odd man out?

Homer won't be skating full speed.... which is an understatement ......LOL. He was already slow BEFORE the fracture....LOL LINES: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary Williams-Filppula-Bertuzzi Draper-Helm-Eaves Homer-Miller-Maltby Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lebda Maltby will be waived/traded along with Leino and May when Franzen & Lilja return. Detroit needs too hang on to all their defencemen with only Janik as the loan decent backup in Grand Rapids. I think the ZDC line is the best top line the Wings have had ALL year.

    Where's Jason Williams at?

Williams is entering his 12th week of LTIR and Kronwall wiil be almost 10 weeks. I don't expect Williams to be very effective when he returns.... he wasn't when he went down....LOL.
  21. The only way Kovalchuk signs is if he gets one of those long term contracts that can lower the cap number. Wings will not be able to trade Filppula because frankly his cap number is too high for his output. Lidstrom and Homer would have to take a significant pay cut. IMHO Kindl will not be ready from what we have seen of him this year. Personally I believe the Wings will go after Alex Ponikarovsky, Alex Frolov or Rene Bourque (all LW with good size), who will all be free agents, as a partner for Datsyuk and be able to get any one of them for under $5 mil, because Helm, Eaves and Miller will probably get more money than what I have listed here. At any rate here is a possibility: Pavel Datsyuk — $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg — $6,083,333 * Kovalchuk — $6,000,000 Johan Franzen — $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula — $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary — $2,800,000 * Tomas Holmstrom — $1,600,000 Kris Draper — $1,583,333 * Justin Abdelkader — $1,000,000 * Darren Helm — $950,000 * Patrick Eaves — $875,000 * Drew Miller — $650,000 DEFENSEMEN Brian Rafalski — $6,000,000 * Nicklas Lidstrom — $4,500,000 Brad Stuart — $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall — $3,000,000 Jonathan Ericsson — $900,000 * Derek Meech — $525,000 * Doug Janik — $500,000 GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood — $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard — $716,666 ROSTER SIZE 21 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $56,504,543 CAP SPACE $295,457

Tough roster decisions ahead for the Wings

Tough roster decisions ahead for the Wings

I am not sure a whole lot of teams will want to take a chance on Leino and his two year contract.... so his trade value is not as high as say someone like Lebda. Just about all teams at the trade deadline look for defensive help. With that being said the Wings could probably could get the best return for Lebda. I think everyone realizes that the Wings will most likely want to keep Miller. If they could swing a deal for Leino then he would be the first choice to go. If not .... then it is Lebda. I think the Wings have seen enough of Janik to realize he has some benefit and that would ease the blow of trading away a defenceman. Wings have ZERO cap space left because cap space is always used first before cap relief is applied. The estimated 130,000 they HAVE to clear (if everyone else is healthy and back) is a prorated amount based on the number of paid hockey days left. If the Wings keep Miller they have to clear someone who has the same salary or more because there is no cap space. That excludes Meech. So it is Lebda or Malty or Leino. Maltby is not going anywhere. Personally I hope the Wings can trade Leino.... because you never have enough defencemen. But they may have to trade Lebda. I also like Janik because he is a stay at home defenceman who can cover up for Ericsson's mistakes when he rushes up the ice. Someone most likely will get injured before Franzen comes back anyway so that will make this all a moot point! LOL.

    Which NHL Players Smoke?

    Smoke what???
  25. Icesurfer

    Leino or Miller

Miller has an overall better game, has more to offer and his willingness to do what it takes makes all the difference for me. When you can play in any situation there just is no comparison. If you want to loaf become a baker, if you want to coast become a hang glider.... LOL.
