He had a few spectacular defensive plays last night that tend to not get noticed. Good to see Howard playing so well, he could be a real nice backup for this team maybe even a 1A type guy. Leino is in such a funk right now, guy is inch away every night from making huge plays but it just isn't happening...weird. Good to see the Wings get some secondary scoring its nice to know Dats and Z don't have to put in all the goals.

3-0 JHO gets his first shutout Datsyuk tired of Bert's inability to score fires all three of Bert's stick while Bert has a sandwich. Really I don't care what happens as long as we get a win, alien intervention, Brad May hattrick...I don't care lets just win. EDIT: How the hell are Cleary and Leino -6 ? They play with the only guy who is consistently scoring.

It says alot about our season that were discussing playing a waiver pickup on the second line with Z. Though I think that has the potential to work out....

x2 Plus I can't remember the last time I saw a Wings pker use the 3rd dimension and just flip it over their heads when they are stuck in the middle of the ice and are trying to clear the zone.

Hahaha You want to know whats wrong with Bertuzzi it that's he's old and his best days are long gone. Bert had 3 decent years with the Canucks 5 years ago, Brett Hull he isn't. Guarantee you he isn't thinking he wasn't punished enough but 19 million is certainly enough to ease up on your checks.

Couldn't agree more with you, lots of people on here don't understand that you can't expect or ask a guy like Homer to all the sudden be something he's not. At the age of 36 he isn't going to develop tremendous foot speed or learn how to set guys up. Homer scores when playmaker/dangler type players set the zone and get shots on net, Z&D can do this Bert and D cannot. When any team is successful its because the players are put into roles that suit their skill set. The Wings for nearly 20 years have been exemplary in terms of getting this done, this year due to the cap and injuries its just not possible. In 07-08 they didn't ask Draper to score 30 goals or ask homer to be the guy to gain the zone, for the aforementioned reasons that's what were trying to do right now. You can ask players to give it there all and elevate their game but at the end of the day you can't ask these guys to do things they simply cannot do. Add into this mix all the young kids who are both trying to learn the game and contribute in a system that is frankly come off the rails and you can see why on some nights it just isn't happening. Eaves and Miller are 500k player if you think they are going to be the white night and suddenly pot 40 a season your drunk. Abdelkader and Leino are rookies and are playing 10-15mins a night, no ******* way that would be the plan in a "normal" Wings season. It sucks but we are going to have to be patient with these kids, you don't develop a head for scoring in the NHL overnight all you can ask is that they work hard and improve every night. The only guy who truly pisses me off is Bertuzzi, one he looks lazy sometimes and he simply cannot finish right now. Dude is second on the team in shots (60) and has 3 goals. A career 10%+ shooter is sitting at 5%, 5% !! that isn't going to cut it in the ECHL. The good thing is we are certainly getting our shots and chances so if we can figure out how to put a couple more in the net we'll be right back in the mix.

I think you just have to chalk that one up as a fluke, Wings were tired or something. Great game last night, perfectly executed back to back win. Its funny in previous years I almost expected the Wings to win 99% of the time, this season with everything that has gone on I really appreciate each game and victory. In a weird way it has made regular season games more fun.

Wings 5 - 1 I just think they are going to be fired up to play sammy at home.

Great game, so fun to watch hockey when your team wins 9-1. Leino is going to be a good player just needs to get some good luck and keep building his confidence. It will be very interesting to see how they play tonight...

Because he wants those guys in GR developing and at the same time wants to maintain the ability to use the healthy scratch, that sounds kinda crazy but it seems like the most logical reason. Between this and the goalie stuff in GR i have no idea what's going on in Holland's head.

All these are bad but no one is in Jack Edwards league, dude compared the Bruins first round defeat of the Canadians to the American revolution.

He's a skill player playing with grinders in his first year in the NHL, your going to have to be patient and give him some time. If you watched him in Jokerit and HPK you know he's a moves/shifty type player, a poor man's datsyuk if you will. Datsyuk's first year he had 35 points in 70 games and if you look historically these types of players take longer to develop. That type of game is all based of spacing and 1/10 second reads and Leino right now is having a hard time dealing with this on the NHL level. Little hand holds and small positioning checks if you will are impeding his ability to get into open space and score. Veteran guys like Maltby and Drapes know how to get into open spaces and work through physical play with far less raw offensive skill because they know NHL defenders. Ville just doesn't have it figured out yet, I think with time though his skill is going to come through.

They mentioned that there was a meeting with Babcock on VS, I think it was during the post game but I could be wrong. No wagon talk more hey ozzie lets get it going kinda thing.

Because he pays Steve Moore everyday and will continue to do for some time. I don't know about you but 19 million would be enough for me to think twice about dropping the hammer on someone. Janik looked decent, didn't make any big plays just went out and did his job. It would be nice to see him a little bit more this year as Kindl is still a ways away from the NHL.

Wow 6 to 8 weeks, you knew he was injured but I was hoping for a week or something.......this is really tough because now you have to seperate datsyuk and z otherwise draper would be the second line center. This season seems like its going to be a real kick in the balls.

What a beasty win, to come back from being down 2-0 when you starting goal tender couldn't stop a beach ball and you've yet to win at home is a tough thing to do. You could just feel the oh s*** here we go again mentality after the first two softies, warrior type effort to stay with it and get a win. Loved Z and Datsyuk's play and Filpula had an incredible game perhaps the best game I've ever seen him play. Its a long season and anything can happen but if the Wings can maintain this level of effort and execution they will go far. I have to say that even as a fan who isn't 100% pro enforcer it is awesome to have a guy like May on the team, when he plays his presence is felt.

I agree with you about Bert's play, his biggest problem has been in the finish which pretty much sums up this entire team right now. It's too difficult right now to single individual players out as no one is really scoring with any consistency.

The problem with last night's lines is that it leaves the team without a viable offensive minded third line center. ZDH looked good as did flip's line but the Draper-Bert-Cleary line didn't do a whole lot and certainly didn't play the puck possession game the wings need right now. The HAM line isn't supposed to do alot of scoring but outside of Abdelkader's two shots they didn't even make goal scoring look like a possibility. The defense is the popular thing to blame right now and there are certainly problems there but last night they needed that third goal badly.

Or wear ankle guards, I've never seen a team that blocks so many shots with there ankle bones. Ozzie was amazing and it was really nice to see May add some grit however something is not working right with the big guns. Z, Pasha and Franzen need to be more involved offensively.

Those things were awesome, they were so deteriated I don't think they did any actual protecting.

This game reminds me alot of last season big lead blown due to poor goalie and defensive play six billion shots in the 3rd that just don't want to drop
