    CBA Question

I understood the 1/2 way contract thing but couldn't figure out how some teams would be able to hide contracts in the AHL. Hockey night in Canada had long discussions about this and how the cap could effect certain teams and I can never remember if certain finer points are in the CBA. Thanks for setting me straight.

Draper ticked that Crosby snubbed Lidstrom

This is ridiculous 16 pages about nothing 21 year old dude f***s up and doesn't realize he better skip the interview and go shake hands, Draper's understandably salty after the game and calls him out on it. Sid (through the team) says opps and Lids says no big deal you'll figure it out as you get older. End of story. Everyone makes mistakes, the mark of a wise and understanding person is that you do your best to not make them twice.

    Coyotes staying in Phoenix

It has nothing to do with any perceived bs between Bettman and Balsillie, it has everything to do with who controls how and when teams move. At the end of the day the most important thing about this case is that the NHL and the board of governors controls how and when teams move and that bankruptcy is not viable option around this. Hence the amicus briefs of the NFL, NBA and MLB. The league is certainly a business but your concept of how large businesses work is out of whack, Phoenix was always going to be a loss leader for the NHL for a decent amount of time. The reason for southern expansion was not foremost to make money but rather to increase the potential fan base and draw new fans to the game from non-traditional markets. If you look into the actual numbers and figures from the board of governors study on relocation and expansion the best options for relocation are Vegas and Kansas City. Another team in the greater Toronto area is better served by expansion.

Detroit to offer Hossa long term deal

4 is amazing and can work with the cap numbers if Homer retires or leaves. I like Holmstrom but he would be the easiest to let go.

Homer's struggles, Conklin wants to stay

Exactly, additionally Leino will be 26 next year whereas Abdelkader will be 22 (I think). If Leino wants to play in the NHL he needs to get it done quickly. Leino will produce when he is on a line that can play the upper level type game, he's not a banger and grinder.

Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure

That's going to be the 20,000 dollar question , my gut says they will do there best to keep it the same or limit the drop this year. However my much smarter brain looks at the numbers and doesn't see anything to be happy about though it could be worse look at the flyers two years down the road.

Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure

The only problem with that is your still 1.3 over the cap assuming that Hossa signs for 5, Leino for .875 and Kopy for .500. Those are pretty lowball figures....

Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure

I'd like to see Z - Pavel - Cleary Franzen - Flip - Hossa Leino - Helm - Hudler Maltby - Draper - Homer But that would mean Hossa is signing for league minimum. I thought from the beginning of the season it would be better to let Hossa walk unless someone major (Lids (please god no) or Rafi was coming off the cap. He's a great player and I generally like him but I don't see how the numbers work out and someone is going to get injured during the year and it would suck to be in a situation in which guys that aren't ready have to play with the big boys. Therefore I think this is a better option Z- D- H Cleary - Flip - Franzen Leino - Helm - Hudler Matlby - Draper - Neil Move Lilja and get a guy like Neil who can play but adds some grit to the roster.

    Who is gonna chicken out?

You have to watch its Game 7. I don't know how I'm going to make it through work tomorrow, so much anticipation and nerves. Definitely going to have a few beers during the game just to keep my heart rate down.

    Chance of winning Friday

The pure randomness of the universe cannot be discounted that said I'm confident the Wings will raise the cup. Hockey is somewhat unique in sports in that skill alone will not carry the day, determination and will are equally as important if not more so. In my experience the Wings when pushed and left with no other options simply win, it may not be pretty it may not be dominating but they earn every inch of it. Game 7 against the ducks, Game 5 against Pittsburgh these wins are not the result of a single play nor play not made. These wins were made on the back of refusing to loose and willing their way to be the first to every loose puck. If the Pens take 50 shots we will take 51, if they score 5 we will score 6 because simply put there are no other options. Have faith Wings fans we shall prevail.

    Nobody to Blame But Ourselves

All they need is a spark, one little thing to get them in the proper mindset. With the right motivator all that tired bs goes right out the window. Pens were dead last night, series was over until they got the SH goal. All the sudden they were flying. I can't believe how some of you just give up the first time we face a little adversity, no team is going to walk its way to back to back Stanley Cups. The difference between a good team and great team is what they do now when s*** has somewhat hit the fan, they will have the fire, they will bring it all and we will win game 5.

The Reasons That The Wings Are Losing

If they just stopped turning it over in their own end they would be fine. They had them, up 2-1 with two straight PP's they were this close and then just fell apart. Take today off and rest, they know what they have to do and how they have to do it. Add to that home ice and I think they are going to do just fine in Game 5.

Hossa to be re-signed after postseason

12 million ? That would be great for us but from everything I heard and the way the CBA is structured I don't see how that is possible as I believe the cap is based on league revenue.
  18. It depends on where the injury is, if its bruised and swelling it can create a ton of pain if you can even get it in the skate boot. The new skates are rock hard, even when broken in they are extremely stiff, I can see where you could get the foot in and just not be able to skate efficiently. For instance if he took one below the knob in the side of the foot. There isn't alot of padding there and there is a muscle and tendon structure called the Perouneus Brevis it helps get you up on your toes and provides balance. Quick explosive starts from a dead stop are kind of an up on your toes type move that would be difficult if you had soft tissue damage to the Perouneus. There is another muscle below it the Peroneus Longus which deals with flexing of the ankle, I think you can clearly see where I'm going. There is alot of stuff in the foot that could prevent one from playing without something being broken.

    Darren Helm Appreciation

That PK was one of the most amazing sports related things I've seen in the last few years. Incredible determination. His offensive skills may suddenly show up, it seems that he is getting alot more comfortable handling the puck and confident in going around/through guys.

    Detroits Finest

She's not professional media, a few years back she whored herself out for some Bears Superbowl tickets and the blog With Leather reported on it. She received a modicum of fame and started mouthpiece sports. She's kinda hot and seems like a nice enough person but Barbara Walters she ain't.

Huge ratings for the Wings Blackhawks Game 1

I have a five minute rule, if I don't hear Crosby's name at least once in every five minute span of a game I turn that s*** off. I mean who doesn't want to listen to Pierre McGuire constantly slober his knob for 4 plus seasons now.

Babcock speaks to Datsyuk about lack of production

Plus we have no idea of what the actual conversation entailed. He could have screamed and yelled, telling him to get his s*** together or it could have been a keep your head up and keep shooting things are going to come type conversation. I would imagine he was more concerned with Pavel's mental state than his actual game, the guys lives off 1/4 second reads, hesitation would not be good for his play.

    Getzlaf

Except your up 2-1 in the series soon to be 2-2 and you've averaged 25 mins a night. The score is 5-3 and you have your net empty, chances are you aren't coming back from this. Live to fight another day especially if you're 50% and you have guys on the bench that are 100%.
