The crowd ? Seriously at best the crowd may have a 10% influence. You want to physically destroy a team neutral zone play and board work is far far more effective than fighting and crowd involvement. Ask hockey players how much they like constantly having to circle back and how frustrating it can be when you can't enter the zone. Never mind that strong neutral zone play inevitably leads to dump and chase, which is just a s*** ton of work. Throw in a team that gets to loose pucks first and grinds on the boards and said team just wants to go home and try again tomorrow. Fighting serves a purpose and should remain in the game, hell I'm for getting rid of the instigator penalty but some people seem to think its the holy grail of a good team (ESAD) and way overvalue its ability to change the outcome of games. Kopy made a super smart play, get B off the ice and make them go with even less d men. Anaheim has essentially been playing with 2 lines and a fifth guy mixed in, that's tiring and makes it difficult to really get it going for a late 3rd rally.

Perfect post and maybe the only person who gets why this line isn't working. The only exception to this was in the 3rd when the defense was really getting involved in the zone play. What pisses me off more than the line not working is Babcock's unwillingness to change up the lines. ZDH and put Hossa with Franzen and Flip or lets get crazy and put him with Helm and Sammy (who scary enough have been pretty good). Regardless something has to change as it isn't working for Datsyuk or Hossa.

Exactly, for as long as I can remember they take time off during games. It probably goes along with experience and confidence.

I was fuming last night about the calls but mostly about the way Detroit played. The owned the Ducks in the second half of the game but played like s*** until they went down 2-0. To top it off 30 seconds after the game ended I was changing my daughter's diaper and she took a hot steamy dump right on my pants. Kinda summed up my entire evening.

Add to that the number of times they didn't get out of the way and the puck hit one of the refs and you can clearly see that they did a poor job of being in the right places. Still Detroit played like s*** for the first 30 mins, hopefully this incident and the game as a whole will get them motivated to kick ass Thursday night.

SWINE FLU !!!!!!! No seriously we got beat, apparently triple overtime just isn't our thing. I have faith that Tuesday the sleeping giant will awake.

The brain is a funny thing, he could be 100% fine in a few days or have lasting problems for awhile. Good to see he's working out regardless of what happens this year it would be nice to see him return to playing.

NBC may decide to pick up game 5 later on.

Wait till they show up pretty funny stuff, 2 jersey's in a trash bag wrapped in packaging tape. Must work though no damage to the jersey's and even though they are fakes the quality is way better than the NHL replicas.

Hiler was helped by SJ's terrible play, for the majority of the series SJ played a perimeter game with the basic strategy of throwing everything on net. Ana knew this and did an excellent job of clearing rebounds, Hiler while excellent did give up a lot of rebounds. Detroit plays a similar style, I'm no coach (thank god) but I don't know how well this will work against the Ducks. Homer is one of the best guys in the league at playing in front of the net he needs to get traffic and get some of those rebounds. Detroit is probably the best team in the league at supporting the player with the puck and getting to loose pucks, if they can hold in the zone and get the Ducks running you can force them to roll 4 lines. They can't hold a candle to our depth, we have to exploit this by really dictating the tempo. Make the game a drag race, really push the tempo and kill them on the transition. The transition game is what Detroit does so well, if you want to disrupt the Ducks cycle play make Niedemeyer hang up high or at least be more pensive by killing them in the transition. He was key in keeping plays alive in the offensive zone. The powerplay is going to be a huge part of this series, if we can make them change the way they play because they are worried about getting sent to the box this series will be a hell of lot easier. I think this is going to be a great series, both teams know what it takes and have supreme levels of talent. This is probably the most difficult matchup for the Wings and I think for Detroit they need to see this as the ultimate test of what they are as a team and really get after them. Make them play our game not the other way around.

He reminds me of a wind up toy, 100mph in every direction. You can't help but like him and with a little time and experience he could really be an unbelievable forechecker.

E-mail this guy jack wu [shuangwu11@yahoo.com.cn], he has a website but its just faster to e-mail him. Got a Home Zetterberg and a WC Datsyuk from him last week. Both were excellent.

Groin stuff is weird, lots of pain in certain movements fine in others. Probably something along that line, few days off and he will be fine.

Kesler and Burrows talking trash about Backes' wife

Yzerman was a trash talker for sure, there is a great story about him and Shanny after Avery left the team. Shanny was a big talker so was Dino. -

Not even worth posting about other than that its funny. Anyone who has spent 10 seconds playing hockey knows this stuff goes on at all levels and for the most part is laughed off. Every team and every player has said something at some time. Mr Selke himself Datsyuk included. I too would pay extra to hear the players miked up, some of the stuff these guys come up with is super hilarious. -
He will be in Detroit next year and I'm confident Holland/Babcock has made that known to him.

WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4

I've only seen one playoff game at the Joe but just seeing the picture of the octopus down low brings back great memories. Great game last night, amazing the way they can just throw a switch. Hossa was a beast, dude worked super hard every shift. Z is the best Pk'r in the league What can you say about Ozzie that hasn't already been said...huge balls. -
Mine didn't work at all last night, nothing on the guides and no games. The cable co. is going to get tired of hearing from me.
-
Exactly ! It wouldn't be Detroit if they didn't tend to play things conservatively, if for some reason we lack offense in the first round I can see him coming up but realistically Helm is far more useful right now.

This could be tough one, Preds HAVE to win and the Wings well not so much. Just hoping for no major breakdowns. Wings 4-2 All Z's hard work this season pays off with 3 goals and a helper.

Apparently he can't get his gloves off either, I've seen his tape jobs in person and that could be the case. I agree with you if your going to throw punches make sure you can get your gloves off.
