I like Brunner but we're better off signing Gagne/Prospal/Hejduk for half the price. That is if management still wants an offensive winger. Sign two of them for 2mil a piece and let Cleary walk. Put Vinnie on the 2nd line and Gagne/Hejduk on the third and we have instant scoring depth. Low risk/high reward and gives more fodder for our favorite your team is too old game. Z - Pav - Alfie Franzen - Weiss - Prospal Gagne - Anderson - Nyquist (Hull - Devereaux - Pav 2.0) Abby - Helm - Miller/Bert Emmerton/Tootoo Use Tatar for any injuries to our top 9. That'll get him a good chunk of games. Or are we out of options with him? I forgot about Bert. He does have some value as a designated shootout specialist and goalie screener.

signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

I'd rather have given this contract to Iginla and signed Alfie at 1 year 2mil. 41 is pretty old. -
Good to hear I remember Dallas fans complaining quite a bit.

Cool, he's old but hungry and a righty. Does the bonus count against the cap? Maybe he can convince Lidstrom to comeback. -
Lateral move. Little expensive for my taste but its nice to see Holland not sitting on his hands.
-
If he can play like the Morrow of old he's exactly what we need but last year he played like the Cleary of the East from what I heard.
-
I'm not really interested in either but its nice to hear Holland looking for speed/size.

Good stuff more playing time the better.

By teams I dislike least Kings - Bruins - Pens - Hawks If it comes down to Pens - Hawks at least I can root for Iginla/Vokoun.

I don't know, he still did some little things that bothered me. That sly trip on Anderson near the end of the 3rd (CBC mentioned it), his reaction to the no goal. Nothing major but when you add it to the earlier stuff from the series it kind of leaves a bad taste. I agree about Kane every time he had the puck in the offensive zone he was doing something silky smooth. -
Before the last week of the season I'd be alllllllllllll for it but I think he stepped up when it mattered most (stupid check on the nogoal tonight aside). Also I'm not sure who would take on his contract. But sure, if we could trade him for a better and right-handed defensemen I wouldn't be up in arms.

Most unsurprising fire ever. I think he's a decent coach but he more than worn out his welcome there.

Of course Pierre will tell this story to his grandkids saying because Z refused his interview the hockey gods were against the Wings. Let's just say if that call was against us I'd be a little more than upset. -

Anyone's opinion of Toews changed this series? I never knew him to be such a whiny brat. Great leader that guy. On another note reports of Kane maturing seem to be true. I can't remember one problem I had with him all series. -
So as Red Wings NHL14 GM on my PS3 I would Let Flip go (should've traded him for something when we had the chance) resign Cleary for a 4th line role sign one semi-big name top 6er (Clarkson, Iginla?) so Babcock isn't "forced" to play Cleary on the first two lines Buy out Sammy, throw Gus in the minors I might be open to keeping Bert but he'll have to earn his spot on the everyday lineup Sign a credible (not Conklin, not Monster, not some half ass attempt at a backup) veteran backup goalie to give Howard some nights off instead of being forced to run him into the ground Promote the young guys to bigger roles on the team resign Brunner Keep Pavel at ALL COSTS Clarkson/Iginla - Dats - Brunner (Dats and Franzen had no chemistry this post-season, why not try Brunner with Dats?) Nyquist (hoping for 50 points from him) - Z - Franzen (Franzen gives some size to this line) Abby - Helm - Tatar (could this be the new grindline?) Miller - Anderson - Eaves (I liked the way Miller and Eaves the last few weeks of the season) Emmerton - Tootoo edit: I guess Clarkson and Iginla would be right handed shots so it wouldn't make sense to have the 1st line righty heavy. Fix accordingly. Big E - Kronwall Smith- Danny D Kindl - Quincey Colo Howard FA backup If Brunner and the young guys aren't performing you still have the capspace to make some moves. Edit: Seems I forgot Cleary, maybe we don't have room for him after all. We just have too many bottom plug guys that fortunately or unfortunately all played solid and interchangably. :/

This isn't as gut-wretching defeat as I thought it'd be. It the back of mind I never really thought we had a Cup winning team this year and I doubt most did (at least until we were 3-1 up on Chicago then I guess you can start thinking about it) I think it was a success to make the playoffs this year, the 2nd round was a bonus. The young players made strides this year and I'm excited about our future. I hope we cut the deadweight and make good decisions this off season. We can be a contender as soon as next season. Looking back I think we could be proud of our boys to push the number 1 seed to a game seven and look at this season as a vital building block for the next generation of Red Wing success. -
Datsyuk has reportedly made decision on where we will sign after next
Number19 replied to chances14's topic in General
Probably the best thing about this surprising playoff run is it gives Dats more incentive to stay. All of a sudden we're looking like a team with a bright future that can still seriously contend. -
I'd love to sign him here but at a low risk contract. Nothing more than Flip will get on the open market and only a 2-3 year deal. Of course he'll likely get better offers elsewhere so it's a pipedream.

Depressing game. Z, Franzen, and Datsyuk have to step up and produce Game 7. Our 3rd and 4th lines can't be the only players scoring goals. -

Ah, cool. My conscience can rest easy. I don't like feeling sorry for Chicago fans, it feels icky. -

I know it was a 6 weeks thing which would've been right after the finals ended I think? With a little luck who knows. -

What was the key component? To me it didn't look like the Hawk player touched Howard, I thought if anything it was a kicked in goal. -

I'm starting to get really excited about this team. If we get Danny D and dare I say Helm back the sky is the limit. I don't know how they're doing it because we've had so many rosters filled with way more talent but they're doing it.
