I mean a difference maker who steps up for big games and motivates his teammates through leadership. Semin and Nash are great players, but I don't think they would have any multiplier effect on the team. We have a fair bit of latent ability on the team, and pulling that out is almost more important than scoring goals in a vacuum. [aside] Z can put entire games on his back too, but having to do so has been part of the problem the last few years.

Agreed. Simply put - Doan is a difference maker while Semin and Nash are not. The kind of fire he has will rub off.

I could see Flip in a leadership role. He is consistently one of the hardest working guys out there, and that has been a very highly regarded leadership quality in Detroit. If Helmer develops a bit more skill though I see him overtaking him in the queue. -
Don't worry, Flip will make up those 25 goals, right? ...Right? ...Right? ...Guys? ...Anyone?

Maybe its the discount many people put on the Wings players for having great teams and team play. He did lead two stacked Wings teams (one full of legends) in scoring in two of their cup years though.

I love Shanny, but he jumped ship so there is no way. If he had retired a Wing with another cup there may be some discussion, but none of that matters now.
