Smith has all the tools to be a great player he just is a little over excited at times. He rushes plays that are not there and he gets caught pinching in when he shouldn't. He needed a older steady partner (like Cheli) that could groom him this year. His game will come together but it will just take more time.

Kronwall needs to be much, much better. Sure he has put up some points but he makes some awful plays in his own end. The young guys Dekeyser, Kindl,Smith and Lashoff look really promising! Blaming Howard for letting in a goal in a shootout is absurd. Why not rip Pav and Z for not scoring?

Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

The amount of diving that goes on in today's game is what irks me the most followed by the lack of consistent officiating. -
Sometimes it makes me wonder if kids sneak out of their rooms at night and get on their Mom and Dads computer when I read s*** like this.

I have a feeling that both Holland and Babcock are going to blame injuries and Lidstrom retiring if the Red Wings miss the playoffs. I feel this will be a complete cop out if it happens. No other teams have Lidstrom either and there are a lot of teams that have had more quality players out then the Wings and they are still in the playoffs ( Ottawa). The forwards need a major overhaul this coming off season. You can't win games without scoring and without heart. Z and Pav cannot carry this team. Holland needs to step to the plate this summer or be shown the door. My list of forwards that can go- Cleary, Fil, Sammy, Eaves, Miller. Not because they are bad just because we need better.

The thing that bothers me most is the attitude of both the Coaching staff and the players. Yes it is a retooling year and they are right where they thought they would be...fighting for a spot. However what is killing them and has been for a few years now is effort. Last nights outcome was no surprise. Calgary always plays with more effort and heart then the Wings do and that is why they usually win in their own rink. We cannot blame missing the playoffs this year on injuries and retooling that is an excuse. The top players on this team need to be called out for that performance last night. The fans deserve better. If Dekeyser and Kindl were the only returning d-man next year I would be fine with that. They are closer to a top pairing then anything we have. Kronwall should be taking a night off.

I still think that Ken Holland will over pay for him this off season. Fil is a great player but a pass first type of guy is not what Detroit needs to spend 4.5m+ on. As much as I would hate to see him leave he just doesn't fit for the money he is after and probably will command.

signed Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension

In what way was I throwing Ozzy under the bus? I was clearly stating that Ozzy was playing behind some of the best defense in the league and he did not have to carry his team night in and night out. Jimmy does. -
Tambelinni fired, MacTavish new Oiler GM...Scott Howson new Sr VP

exactly! and we can help them out with some meat and potato guys Cleary, Eaves, Sammy, White, and Fil for Hall and Yak! Just to help them out with all their talent probs lol -
Holland has done great things for the Red Wings there is no doubting that. But he has also failed to land a sniper for the last three seasons. Hossa should have been signed. The Red Wings have a fairly deep prospect pool and I am sure a couple of those guys could have been moved to land a player that can put the puck in the net. Holland at times could be better but I am sure that you could say that about 29 other GM's

If Jimmy had half the 08 team in front of him he would win the Vezina. I am happy for him. Ozzy used to get 18-20 shots a night with the best D in the league in front of him and he is considered a God around here. Jimmy is the only reason we are still in the playoff hunt at all. -
Tootoo should have been in to get a spark right off the start! This is a must win game. If the boys can't get up for these games (COUGH MULE) then they should be gone. 4-2 Wings

Like most Canadian Wings fans it was because of Yzerman. I have been following the team since the late 80's and even more closely since sat tv and internet has allowed me too. Being a sports fan to me is about the passion. If the Wings are playing like s*** or the manager or coach is doing something I don't agree with I will complain about it. Does this make me a bad fan I ask the OP? Hell no it doesn't....It makes me a better one. We put in hours our of our lives watching this team, buying their items. I WILL voice my opinion.

This is no surprise but it sucks all the same. He is a fan favorite but I worry about his future with his style of play and back problems. So there was no better choices at the deadline then Drew Miller for our top six???? well alright then.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs
Red Crazy replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
They will not make the playoffs this year or next until they add some players that can score on a regular basis. 2 players in your top six that are a scoring threat just does not cut it. -
This team doesn't care enough about winning. There is not one player that looks good tonight. The defense is bad. The end of the streak is very near.

It shows that puck moving d-men are very valuable in this league. Lidstrom and Rafalski were great at making the first pass out of our zone. We turn the puck over way too much in between the blue lines often because of a poor pass from the D. I don't think Detroit has a great puck moving d-man right now. Colo was making some nice ones in his return hopefully that keeps up.

I like to think that they will make the playoffs. I do have a gut feeling that the other teams trying to get in are better and a lot more determined then our team. It starts tonight. -
Ovie to Pittsburgh for Crosby"s teeth and a third rounder

Holland has made some deals that might help in the future but he has to make moves that helps the team as we go. Bringing in Sammy and Colo were big mistakes and letting Hossa walk was another. I think that the jury is still out on if Kronwall is cheap. He is struggling in the role of 1-2 d-man. Maybe its because of lack of partner but if he falls to 3-4 in a couple years is he cheap still? Holland is a quality GM there is no doubt but this is starting to look very stale and predictable.

Ken Holland doing nothing tells me that he is satisfied with where his team is at or no other GM's were willing to give him their top players. Based on his last three years I am not sure he is the right GM going forward.
-
Really? I think that adding a couple of pieces would make this team a contender. Not sure if those pieces will be available though. Louis Erickson would even go a long way.
-
My point is that if the Red Wings really want to take a run at winning the Cup then why stand pat and do nothing that improves this team. And No it is not every teams goal to win a Championship every year. Some teams are just happy to make the playoffs and I never want to see the Red Wings become one of these teams.
-
That is the problem right there. Those two clowns have 13 goals between them 13! While playing top line minutes with two of the best play makers in the league. Brunner has 11 and gets demoted to the third line and he plays his ass off every night. The Wings have a ton of guys at forward but only 2 or three that are top 6
-
No truer words have ever been said on LGW. Babcock says himself that it is the Wings goal every year to win the cup. Trading picks or prospects for players under contract are a less risky move then hoping that your pick will even play one game in the NHL. The Wings are loaded with prospects I am sure that a few could be traded away without ruining the future.
