We have been under the cap now for a while. It is not all salary cap when other teams improve every year.

Ken Holland won't do anything. He will come out after the deadline and say he was active and the prices were too high. He will say that the return of Bert and Helm will make him like this team. The Red Wings will either slide into a 7-8th spot and get killed in the first round or they will miss the playoffs altogether. The Cup will go to a team that improves year after year. Next years team will look exactly how it looks today but Fil will be handed a big sack of money that he does not deserve. Jeez that was depressing to write and I really hope i am wrong. What ever happened to the win at all costs days???

Cola out played them both tonight. He was sound and seemed to move the puck out of his own end with some nice passes...something that lacks at times with this team. Smith and Kindl are young and are going to make mistakes like we have been seeing lately. I wish the Wings could have got Regehr. He could have been a good partner for a young d-man.

If anyone thinks that Fil can carry this team in either Hanks absence or Datsyuk's retirement then the Wings are in really deep trouble. He is hardly worth his salary now and he wants a raise????? He can easily be replaced and for a hell of a lot less.

I could totally see that happening but if Holland thinks that he needs to sell Fil for the highest bidder and shop Mule.

You could give Nyquist 20 min a night he is NOT NHL ready until he gains some size. I won't argue with you about Mule and Cleary, neither should be on this team.

I agree with this completely but they have absolutely nobody to play with. If Z and Pavel don't score....we lose. Ken Holland bet on Mule over Hossa and lost big time. Mule is one of the laziest players in the NHL if not the most lazy. Holland is probably going to hand Fil a big sack of money that he in no way deserves.

Holland is the guy you need to point fingers at. He has done dick to improve this team lately. I always liked the saying "GM's fire coaches before people catch on that its their fault" Babcock is a great coach trying to coach a team full of plugs.

My guess is Colo gets hurt while playing for the Griffins. Its a safe bet.

Keep Fil if he signs for 3.5m any more and he can be replaced by Tatar. Fil is a good player and I like him but in no way is he worth what he might fetch on the open market. He is scared of contact resulting in turnovers and he is not producing the offense this team needs to demand any more money. I really question if he is indeed top 6 on most nights. If Ken Holland ties up close to 10m between Fil and Mule he should be fired. Pavel and Hank carry this team while those two enjoy the ride and do F**K All

IF the Wings can play all 60 min they should get the win. Can't afford to take any periods off in this one. Sharks played last night so a strong game will matter. 5-3 for............Wings

I don't think that its a bad option. I do agree the second pp needs help. This also could be fixed by adding Jay Bo. Good puck moving d-men help power plays big time. The Wings GA has been pretty good lately but I think it has more to do with Jimmy standing on his head then good defense. Jagr and Jay Bo! Get it done Kenny

That is true but do you really think the Pens lost that much? Sitting on a whole bunch of cap space while signing players that nobody else wants is not a good building idea in my mind. Ken Holland has been looking for a scoring winger since Hossa left and a top 4 d-man. He really needs to get on with it. Signing Fil for 5m will be what we get, count on it.

I am not afraid to call out a GM for sitting on his hands. Holland has done a lot for the Wings there is no doubt but he has not done much lately. We have a log jam of mediocre players that he refuses to get rid of. If Brad Stuart was the last trade you can remember then maybe that is a problem. Other teams are getting better we are standing pat. Make a list of the players that have left in the last 5 years then make a list of the ones that have came. you will see his track record.

The Penguins continue to show that they want to compete for the cup every year. Like it or not but that is what draws elite players to want to sign with your team. Detroit used to enjoy this, Holland is pissing it away by signing players like Colo , Sammy etc. The Pens will survive the cap next season just like the Hawks did a couple of years ago. You never hear Detroit mentioned in trade rumors anymore....did Kenny lose his cell? Rant over.

I would rather pay Iginla 5+ for a couple years then pay Fil the same amount. Fil, Nyquist and a couple conditional picks depending if he re ups. We need a goal scorer Fil can be replaced from within. (Tatar)

Promising a rookie playing minutes is a very risky thing to do. If Babcock did this I would be shocked. My question is what is Detroit going to do with all of these players? Or if DD is picked up does that make Kindl available to trade?

Not a knee jerk thread but if the Wings continue to play like they have been. What would Kronwall bring at the deadline? He has been good at putting up some points but he has been really good at costing the Wings goals. The first 2 tonight are all on him and his buddy E

Agreed. I think both Kronwall and Smith need hard hitting, solid, stay at home d partners to get the most from their games. Like Stuart was for Kronner. Maybe Smid would be a good pick up for a partner for Smith? Dump Colo and Q.
