Just a point of reference, Ottawa's Konopka got fined $2500 = Weber's fine. From NHL.com: Konopka was fined for his verbal abuse directed at a New York Rangers player conducting a live television interview nearby during pre-game warm-ups. So verbally abusing another player = $2500 = smashing another player's head into the glass. Almost EVERY commentator point to the lack of discipline on Weber as THE act that opened the floodgate to the rampant goonery that we've seen so far.

Just read some excerpts from Puck Daddy, didn't listen to the audio but epic failure on Shanny's part OR the system is still corrupt and Bettman/Campbell just tried to put a new face to the old boys club. The playoffs really exposed it. The only satisfying thing is that their poster team Pittsburgh Penguins is spiraling down the toilet. Shanny's explanation on the discipline handed out so far is so terribly inconsistent. This year's playoffs will be known as the one that Shanny/the Dept of Player Safety lost it.

Not fair to pin it all on Howie and I'm not BUT if Howie played today like he did in game 2, we would have won. Having said this, it doesn't excuse some of the other lazy plays by forwards and D's.

I was just thinking that 2012 will be the year known for when all hell broke loose with violent and cheap shots during playoffs. Shanny tried to set the stage during the regular season, especially if you remember the first few suspensions (like Wiz in CBJ). Now because he was weak ass about the first few in game 1's ... by game 2 in all the series, I've never seen this much of s*** happening in round 1, maybe by the time you get to SCF but never this early. Hagelin on Alfredson, Shaw on Smith, Carkner on Boyle, Burns on Nichols, St. Louis beatdown on SJ after the game ended (loved watching it though ) etc. This is open season WWE on ice.
