If San Jose did that, they would be seen as the ultimate dick and cry-baby ... their reputation would go down the toilet for agents, players, and other GM's. I can't believe NHL forced him to be your alternate. No way you were going to pick him as your alternate. Jimmy, play hard and show everyone that you are the man.

In hindsight, what if Kenny made Nabby a 2 year offer (rest of this year and next) with No Movement Clause - since so many of you think that Holland will try to get him this summer. Wonder if a 2 year with NMC would have up the ante and made it a bit harder for other teams to claim him? I'm pretty sure NYI wouldn't have picked him up with DiPietro pegged as multi-million dollar starter. And ... since both Ozzie and Howard's contracts are up at the end of this year, we would have at least one goalie signed for 2011-12. Assuming Ozzie retires then, sign Jimmy and we'd have the best 1-2 punch in goalie. The only down side I can think of is if some team did claim him off waivers, he'd be unavailable this summer. So Giggy said that if Burke asked him to waive his NTC, he would ... who would want a $6 mill underachieving goalie ? ... even at pro-rated amount with 1/2 season over? From Toronto Star Burke's grand plan ... unload Giggy and pick up Nabby on waivers from Detroit . Unfortunately, that would actually be a good move for Burke!

Hasek ... he doesn't have to clear any waivers . Ray Emery's name has been thrown around although I'm not sure if I would want him.

Goes to show what some players would agree to in order to play with the Winged Wheel on their jersey . I mean $570K/yr, $250K for the rest of the season ??!! No other team would make that ridiculous low ball offer and Nabby wouldn't agree to do this for any other team. If this goes through, Nabby and Howie's combined salary is about the price of our backup Ozzie ... unbelievable!

I see it as cheap but pretty damn good insurance. 1. You don't know what Ozzie's shape will be being off the ice for 6-8 weeks after a sports hernia surgery. What if he can't move in a certain way ... 2. Jimmy can perform in the playoffs, he did great last year but we lost in 2nd round. If he plays again this year, he will just get more mature and I think he has a good head on his shoulder. Don't know if he can take us all the way but people like Halak, Lehtonen, Niemi were the goalies that stood on their heads so anything can happen. BUT having someone like Nabby in the bullpen if Jimmy does get the jitters or injures himself from now till playoffs is just good prudent decision. If anything, it shows Kenny doesn't have a lot of confidence in Joey MacDonald to either back up Jimmy or go to bat in case Jimmy goes down. For $250K to cover all those bases ... what a steal! I'm kinda surprised Nabby signed for so cheap but then he's probably still laughing to the bank with his $6 mill last year.

If Meehan told the rest of the NHL that Nabby wants to be a starter ... what does that imply here in Detroit? I would have thought Jimmy is starter, Nabby is backup. Or will we go with tandem, like Hasek and Osgood? Read earlier posts - every team that is interested submit intent to league and after receiving them all by noon tomorrow, NHL will then award him to the team who is the worst in the standings.
