I've been impressed with the Flyers. Remember at one point, their locker room supposedly was blowing up, they were the underachievers of this season but man, they've got fight. Makes this series interesting at least and not a 4-0 or 4-1 kind of SCF. In my pool I picked Chicago but it wouldn't bother me one bit if Philly pulls the upset. Hossa jinx for one more year. As for Conn Smyth ... what about Ville Leino

Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire
RedWingsRox replied to Lidstrom for life's topic in General
Bertuzzi should jump at the chance to play for the Wings for another year at 1.5 mill. -
You know, to be honest, I love the Red Wings and all but just look at our logo ... what the hell is that? A wheel and wings ... wheels for ground/cars ... wings for flying ... Logos are logos ... sometimes, they don't make sense.
-
I was just reminded that Hossa 'took' 7.5 mill from us last year and didn't show up at the playoffs. I know, he had surgery afterwards and that he was injured but hell, that is Lidstrom money. Why are people so enamoured by him? Hossa, along with Luongo and Lacavalier are probably the most overrated and overpaid players in the NHL. He's about a point a game player ... certainly not worth $7+ mill/yr. Sorry ... no cup for you ... we give it to Philly and Leino.
-
Anybody know the terms of his contract? Length ... salary, how much? NVM ... 12.5 mill for 5 yrs, just read it.

It was the best for all involved. Stevie wasn't going to be GM of the Red Wings anytime soon. Give him some time in Tampa and who knows, in 5-7 years when Holland retires ... maybe, just maybe. Does anyone know how much he is getting in terms of salary and contract? On another note, he is not very good at the mic, hums and haws a lot ... he'll learn. Not knocking the great Stevie Y but today's GM job is a highly skilled position that requires sharp legal and business sense. You can only pick up so much from hanging around the front office. Does anyone know Stevie Y's background in terms of education and experience? Let's face it, not just every good player can make it in the front office, he may or he may not. Look at Gretz ... great player but terrible coach.
-
Oh no ... when does Kenny H retire? Like other said, GMs now don't last forever in one position. Maybe we'll see you back in Detroit one day.
-
This is great news ... music to my ears.
-
Want Philly but I think Chicago will win.
-
Flyers. Hossa raising cup or Leino?
-
Just think about this. Either Hossa or Leino will hoist the cup ... which would you prefer?
-
Hope he doesn't tire himself out, he is suppose to be enjoying that extra rest from now going further in the NHL playoffs.
-
Who the hell did we get in return for Leino? Would he have helped us out with one or two goals here and there and maybe change the outcome of our series with SJ? Is Kenny kicking himself?
-
Well, we can pretty well rule out Chicago from hoisting the cup because of the Hossa jinx
-
So let me get this straight. Ville Leino is still playing and we're not

Remember what Babcock said in post game after we went down 3-0. He said something like, "Coming back from 3-0 only happens once every 30 or so years, guess it's our turn." He was kinda right but unfortunately, it wasn't us. Even people thought if anyone could, it'd be the Wings ... no one saw this coming but hey, congratulations Flyers.

Yo, I live in Vancouver too and it is nauseating to hear the mantra, 'Best goalie in the world'. If Luongo is the best goalie in the world, then Jimmy Howard must the best goalie in the universe or at least in our solar system. Howie was far better than Lui in regular season and playoffs and his is 1/10th of Luongo's salary. Regardless of how much I don't like the Canucks, I actually felt bad for Luongo last night not because he was hung out to dry per se but because he should have played the last 40 mins like the first 20 to give his team a chance. Even down 2-0 ... not insurmountable but down 3-0 on a shorty that was weak ?? What shocked me was that Samuelsson, the guy who they brought in to be cool, calm, and collect supposedly learnt from the Wings lost it ... hooking/cross checking, misconduct basically putting the Canucks down a player for 4 mins with about 7.5 mins left in the game. Very uncharacteristic of Sammy.

AND he said, 'Well, it was an improvement this year, I only let in 5 instead of 7.' I guess in anticipation of comparison to last year's game 6. I was so looking forward to seeing him cry again. But instead I think Mike Gillis is crying.
-
2 for hooking. 2 for cross-checking. That was a pathetic way to go for the Canucks. They got schooled. I hate the Canucks and even I felt bad for them. Luongo ... what a joke. Worst goalie in the playoffs this year.
-
Although it is not ALL Luongo's fault, he does have to take a big part of the blame. 2 goals in less than a minute in the 2nd period. Suck the life out of the Canucks. Then he let the shorthanded one in ... that was a WEAK goal, it wasn't even a shot, it was like a shovel. Then the goal by Patrick Kane, and less than one minute later, Dustin Byfuglien's. In postgame interview, he said, 'I can hold my head up high, I battled for 60 mins. Last year I let in 7, tonight it was 5, so it is an improvement.' .... WTF??? Okay ... the part that is not Luongo's fault ... no one scored any goals tonight (other than O'Brien ... you know that league leading sniper and goal scorer ??!! You have to score goals to win games Sedin, Burrows, Kesler, Raymond)
-
People ... Howard was the BEST thing that emerged this season. Nothing came even close. Take that to the bank. Without Howie, we'd be in like 15th place in the Western Conference. And in the bigger picture of things ... we got ourselves a keeper.
-
Wow .. just wow. Beat the Pens in game 7 and I'll cheer for Montreal as far as they can go !!!
-
Kenny offers Nick the chance to play with his son in a few years. Lidstrom Sr hangs around for 3-4 ... we draft the Jr Lidstrom and our team will never be without a Lids
-
It was a different season indeed. Working so hard in the end to make it a 100 pts season and making it to the playoffs. At one point, we were all happy just to make it in but of course, once we're in, we have high expectations. Howie can only get better. Went to round 2 in his first year. Bright future. Sure I'm upset it didn't last a bit longer but all in all, pretty satisfied.

Classy handshake at the end with our guys wishing Todd all the best.
