I think it's pretty obvious when nearly every player that jettisons to the KHL does so due to a lack of interest from NHL teams. If NHL teams are really interested in a player they will pay and we've seen this year after year. The players we're losing are being offered scraps, the leftovers, and NHL teams know they can because these players can easily be replaced.

Let's be realistic here, although it's a shame that he won't be in the NHL the next season he is in no way noteworthy player in today's NHL. While the KHL takes our twilight year vets, we take their up and coming youth in droves.

All of the studies I've seen have shown that significant amount of time spent in the AHL by European Prospects end with terrible results. Do not want.

For all this talk of "looking Human" Lidstrom still finished with possibly the best stats of any defenseman in the nhl along with being nominated for the Norris yet again. There is absolutely nothing to indicate a significant enough drop off in play to warrant 4-5 mill contract even with a discount. I never said he would take $7m+ but I would be surprised if he takes less than Datsyuk and it seems beyond improbable that he takes less than Zetterberg. Again Value. Lidstrom is the most valuable part of this team even in the end of his career something Yzerman was not.

Franzen scoring 40 will probably come down to health considering that he is averaging about 70 games a year.

I'm assuming he meant strictly goals. Anyways, If Zetterberg is with Datsyuk then he most likely scores 40 otherwise it seems unlikely.

There's a difference between wanting to win by taking a discount and giving up 2-3 million a year. As a fan it's easy to say he's going to give up a lot of money for the sake of winning but it's simply unreasonable to expect him to pass up that much. Value is an important term here. Lidstrom is the most valuable piece of this organization, and you don't think he believes he should be payed as such?

I think some of you are expecting for too much of a discount from Lidstrom next season(barring significant drop off in play this season) considering Scott Niedermayer is making 6.7 million and it would make Lidstrom the fourth highest paid player on the team. Why would Lidstrom all the sudden go from being the "Lidstrom Cap" to making less than Rafalski?

I'm not sure people realize just how much offensive potential Hudler really has(just look at his ahl numbers).

Oh I know. I didn't necessarily mean for the up coming season since the hudler fiasco basically handcuffed us this offseason. I don't think an enforcer would hurt us but he would have a hard time protecting our top guys while on the fourth line.
