They went after Franzen's head last year, E's abdomen this year... classy through and through.

Getzlaf and Perry's style of play is better suited to beating Detroit than Crosby and Malkin's. The former chip it in, cycle and use size, strength and positioning to grind our defense and scory dirty goals. Crosby and Malkin play a puck-possession style which relies heavily on passing and individual speed and skill through the neutral zone. Given the Wings' relative lack of size on the blueline, the Ducks' style of attack is more effective than the Pens'. That does not necessarily mean that Getzlaf and Perry are better than Crosby and Malkin, only that Detroit has more trouble with them. For what it's worth, though, Getzlaf and Perry are both vastly superior in their own end to both of the Pens' stars. edit: Nail, meet head.

Zetterberg will be here for another decade so I don't see any reason for this thread. Helmer might not even be here then, and who knows who else would be here in 2020 or whenever?

You expect us to respect the Pens in the event they beat us, when you come on our forums and post a bunch of idiotic trash talk about Detroit's arena? Never mind the fact that you post a year-old video of one shift by an otherwise ordinary player along with a video of a regular-season victory in which your team still gave up six goals. Remember that game? A decisive 3-0 shutout on your own ice in which your entire team was outplayed and your entire fanbase outclassed as they boo'ed a player who had no commitment to your team, despite the fact that he was your best player in the previous post-season? Grow up. edit: As if that weren't enough, you ignore the entire hockey aspect and instead shoot barbs at economy of Detroit and the entire state of Michigan. Classless, I hope you get an earful from some of your forum's more intelligent fans.

How important is the effect of our PP/PK in this series
ComradeWasabi replied to drfnr14's topic in General
I think our PP has the ability to shred their PK, but I still have my doubts about our own PK. Crosby seems to have taken a page out of John Tavares' book and has camped himself to the left of the goalie on a regular basis (see Hank's 5-on-3 play from last year). Someone like Lilja would be a big bonus in that situation, our left D in that instance would need to try to keep the passing lane blocked so there's no easy cross-seam pass for a tap-in. I think our PK is good enough to keep their power play pretty much shut down but they need to remember to always get the puck 200 feet down the ice. That was a problem that plagued this team all year. -
I wear my Wings jersey in public the day after they win a playoff series. I did it last year and it's worked and it's working so far this year. Also, this year I wore it on game day for the first game of the playoffs, which I didn't do last year. If they lose, then I can blame it on that change.

Eric Duhatschek of The Hockey News just said on TSN's That's Hockey that he expects Hossa to re-up, long-term, after the playoffs (and yes I know that it can't actually happen until a certain date for cap reasons). He claims that they had a deal in place in principle prior to the playoffs and he expects it to be of a similar structure to Franzen's. Obviously nothing set in stone, but I tried to phrase the thread title to avoid getting people worked up over nothing. Still.... Here's a link to the video clip. MOD EDIT: Inserted link to video.

He is, in a word or two, pretty terrible. When Satan got back from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Sykora was the odd man out with their seven-D system of player dressing.
-
Oh don't get me wrong, even if Homer doesn't end up getting a REAL assist, he deserves one for his work on the play. I still don't think he touched it, though.

Just don't pick up the 'pus...

Duhatschek: Wings will successfully re-sign Hossa

Whoever edited my title made Duhatschek's statements sound more conclusive than I had intended -
Help! name of song wings played after the overtime goal tonite!
ComradeWasabi replied to TimC11's topic in General
They played The Good Old Hockey Game (or whatever the hell that song is called) afterwards, dunno if that's what you were looking for. -
Even if he got the assist I'm pretty sure he didn't touch it... but I might be mistaken.
-
He didn't touch it, I saw the replay 4-5 times. Caromed (to steal an NBC word) off of Huet's skate and right on Helmer's stick. Helm deserved first-star status (I dunno who actually got it but he was absolutely everywhere. Incredible game).

Duhatschek: Wings will successfully re-sign Hossa

With their current playoff totals, Franzen should be making Hossa money and Hossa making Franzen money. -

Household name for most hardcore hockey fans. He writes for The Hockey News, is the lead hockey columnist for Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail and is in the HHOF for his journalism over the last 35 years. -
WCF GAME 5: Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

That was a good chance for Gator and Leino. -
Game 5 Injury Update: Ericsson, Datsyuk, Lidstrom out
ComradeWasabi replied to alowicious's topic in General
If they are, then I'd imagine we'll win. Franzen will rip out eighteen mouthguards, the Hawks will all go to the box and then Z and Hoss will just score enough to give you Detroiters double Arbys. -

Z is due for a dominant performance.

Not to mention this is following a grueling AHL season in which travel is done almost exclusively by bus and where they play 3 game weekends on a regular basis. He has every reason to be tired.

"Different dialect" is being generous. Quebec French is ridiculous.
