Playing just okay for 20 minutes is not playoff hockey. The first 40 minutes were absolutely shameful.

Did Ken Hitchcock get to plan our powerplay strategy for this game or what? This is absurd.

He's in the lineup and I understand that his conditioning is probably not the best, but he's straight up being benched by Babs. What's the deal? He took a stupid high-sticking penalty today but apart from that I can't figure out why he wouldn't be playing, especially since it forced us to play Stuart for well over 45 minutes today.

The penalty was his fault for being careless with his stick, BUT, the penalty kill is supposed to be able to kill a two-minute penalty (the Ducks are 3 for 7 on the PP in two games by the way, not good penalty killing). The seven minutes played is exactly what this thread is about: Babcock only played him seven minutes, Chelios would have liked to be out there a great deal more but he didn't get sent out.

I think this pretty much sums up the issue. It's against the rules, yes, but it isn't dirty like the cheapshots taken by many Ducks.

He's broken two noses (Ryan Malone and now Ryan Carter... watch out Bobby Ryan), which isn't a big deal in hockey, but it's more of an injury than some hits dished out by "dirty" Anaheim players.

He most certainly did.

Anybody who says that Kronwall's hits are legal but complains about Pronger and the Ducks is a hypocrite. Unfortunate but true. You can't have it both ways: Kronwall's hits aren't really "dirty" but they are certainly against the rules.

I can't think of a lot of Wings OT games in the last few years, but the end of some of them stand out: 1) Game 6 vs Calgary, 2007: Franzen scores a goal that probably could have been stopped (although it was a wicked slapshot) 2) Game 5 vs Anaheim, 2007: Lilja. 3) Game 5 vs Nashville, 2008: Franzen (Mr Clutch) takes a stretch pass and scores on a breakaway. 4) Game 5 vs Pittsburgh, 2008: we all know how this one ended 5) Game 2 vs Anaheim, 2009: Wings fire endlessly at Hiller and tear a hole in the logo on his jersey. If nothing else, then the most recent two felt exactly the same: the Wings kept taking low-percentage shots and the goalies didn't let any bad ones go by. It seems like they definitely get away from their gameplan of crease crashing and instead just wind up shooting from anywhere with little or no support. Even my mom complained about their lack of a netfront presence today. I get that everyone's tired, but they don't even look like the same team in overtime.

Taking the homer glasses off, yeah, those hits are against the rules. I don't want to call them dirty because I don't think they should be illegal- and he certainly doesn't launch into the hits the way Steve Downie did on Dean McAmmond last year in the pre-season. Nobody can deny he is breaking the rules with those hits, though.

Panger is great, probably the funniest guy in hockey broadcasting (James Duthie doesn't write his own lines)
