Two thoughts: 1) A fine against New Jersey is definitely in order, if only from the point of view that other teams (Los Angeles and New York Rangers come to mind) expressed an interest in Kovalchuk but were forced to look elsewhere after the "illegal" contract was signed and tendered with the League and 2) I know Mr. Bloch's powers were not this far reaching, but what if he had the power to rule that the contract be shortened by the number of years with sub-million dollars payments? -

Was he clearing tables? When the arbitration process was announced, I heard someone on tv say that the losing side would probably file an appeal (more so if it was the NHLPA) delaying it even longer. No word on that yet.

The League should be looking at spending more money on: 1) Better replay equipment (including more camera positions, resulting in better views of plays) and 2) More extensive training of their officials, both on-ice and off-ice.
